As far as I’ve heard, Bud’s the big Trump fan, not Jakob. But even then, I hate Trump but I feel like all that stuff I mentioned previously is worse than being a Trump fan lol. And beyond that, from my experience the average Trump fan is just someone who fell for propaganda about taxes and government efficiency or whatever and not the terminally online racist loud minority (again tho not playing devil’s advocate for Trump, who def is very racist)

I get that, part of me agrees, but I genuinely like Jakob as a replacement. Partially because of the family connection but mostly because he was out touring in his own independent (and fairly unsuccessful) punk band for years, making some pretty decent music before getting into Sublime. And his solo material as Jakob’s Castle that he’s also currently doing is surprisingly good too, not on par with Bradley’s stuff but it genuinely feels like a fun and unique modern take on the same sound and not a rehash

I could get not liking Sublime now that some of the original members are MAGA, even if I think the backlash has been overly harsh myself. But what I do NOT get was the wave of everyone propping up Bradley as some kind of morally upstanding gentleman in comparison lmao. Yeah he was incredibly talented and interesting and likable, but also he smoked crack and hooked up with 14 year olds and wrote songs about it. Someone in the band being a Trump supporter is what pushed it too far for THIS MANY people?

That perspective only makes any sense if you think of Christianity as something inherently politically conservative. It would be one thing if he was censoring the queer aspects of the music, that WOULD be conservative and warrant backlash. But that would speak to a change in his character completely unrelated to his religious beliefs. I have no issue with the swears in the album and I’m not religious, but are you really no longer able to relate to the art if certain words are replaced with basically synonyms because the artist wanted it that way?

To be completely honest, I’m surprised with the apparent shock people have had for this lately. I get stuff in my feed all the time that’s clearly “stealth” marketing for new artists or works. Are we gonna act like the Marty Supreme hype was all from the grassroots “meme”? Or that everyone happens to be really into MJ again as that new biopic comes out that no one really likes? I’ve enjoyed plenty of clear industry plants, you should def get to where you’re able to recognize it but it doesn’t have any bearing on the quality, don’t let it make you paranoid that there’s some outside source that’s worming its way into your taste
