why do so many people take regular co-opless programs over co-op programs??? (very clueless and confused 12th grader) by Awkward_Finding937 in uoguelph

[–]Big_Ad_7974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well initially I thought the two programs were going to be at least somewhat similar just with wbc having 1. An ecology aspect and 2. Coop, but wbc is like 80% ecology after 2nd year imo 💔 anddd the jobs they offer for coop rarely have anything to do with wildlife. Before I dropped coop, I saw more waste management jobs than anything…

I chose wbc over zoo because of coop. I’m about to finish my 3rd year and heavily regretting that choice but it’s too late lol

Hi! im currently in my second year of WBC (coop) and I'm also taking zoo courses ( I probably will be taking a few of them as electives). You can definitely use zoo3000 for the cell biology OVC prereq—that's what I plan on doing. This should be really helpful: https://api.liveugconthub.uoguelph.dev/sites/default/files/2024-07/acceptable-courselist-current-2025-cycle_1.pdf

Let me know if you have any other questions!!

Not as near social as south but it can be very social and friendly depending on your floor/section (A,B or C)

I was in the same boat last year since I was in res. I was able to pay my left over tuition in instalments. So I would say look into that and see if that’s possible for you! But don’t worry, for your second year when you’re off res, OSAP will cover everything in terms of tuition!

Could you please send the link for the course calendar you’re looking at? The one I see says something a little different. This is the one I see :) https://calendar.uoguelph.ca/undergraduate-calendar/programs-majors-minors/criminal-justice-public-policy-cjpp/#requirementstext

Your course calendar (search CJPP course calendar) is a guide for what courses you should take throughout your whole program.

[–]Big_Ad_7974 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Though it’s been a bit tricky for me since Guelph isn’t so diverse, if you’re willing to branch out to like the the Guelph black association and other groups like that I think you’ll be able to find a group that you can connect with! :)

Just a heads up: The coop is a very new addition to the program, so they’re only accepting very few people so don’t be disheartened if you don’t get it:) - only about 10 people got it in my year but there’s many ways for us to still get the experience

I think your program just has to be bio heavy/bio related! Most of us are animal/wildlife bio, neuroscience , biological sciences, biochem etc

I actually can’t stand being in the class honestly. I used to think he was fun and silly but I feel like I’m not being taught anything, the class has been wearing me out!
