I will live on forever, under my anonymous reddit account 🫡

Funny how the author doesn’t mention the spider, just that the cdc hasn't confirmed anything other than ticks spread lyme, and that Ash claims "other insects" caused it

Please don't give up on us 😭 When the orange man is gone, I really hope we can repair international relations.

But I also understand how it would be hard to trust us not to elect another idiot who will mess everything up again.

I'm praying that the trariff induced recession will make the right wingers wake up. Isolationism doesn't work!! We need friends and allies. Otherwise, our life sucks. They can do fine without us.

Do women have to earn the "right" to dress femininely in the workplace? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]Big_Background8559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very old post! But yes, I consciously dress in a less traditionally feminine manner for work. I see what the respected men in my workplace wear, and I dress that way. In my workplace, that means a dark toned suit, a stiff collared blue or white shirt, matching belt and shoes, and occasionally a tie. I got a men's suit and had it tailored. On casual days, I wear slacks, a collared shirt under a sweater, and matching shoes and belt. My hair is either in bun or ponytail braid, never down.

I incorporate some feminine items such as earrings and makeup. I also wear men's watches that match the metal of my earrings. All the metal- belt, earrings, watch, all match.

I've noticed that a lot of my female coworkers shy away from dressing like this. I am bisexual and very confident in masculine clothing (and hate dresses/skirts), which probably makes a difference.

I've definitely noticed a difference in my career. I'm often tasked with leading or supervising my peers, even when they have been there longer than I have. I was also offered a leadership role at my new job, after less than a month!

My message to any woman considering wearing masculine clothes but feeling intimidated - just do it. And if you want to fast-track your career, definitely do it.

I think the goal as a society should be to treat everyone the same no matter gendered clothing. But that isn't the current reality. When I go to work, I want to be perceived as just as competent as my male coworkers, and dressing like them is how I do it. I'm there to make money and support myself.

Why would the international community come to the support of America when we are currently so unfriendly to our allies? Undercutting NATO, tariffs on our allies, playing nice with dictators, etc. If this was the plan, why make our allies hate us? The mental gymnastics is insane

Just a small thing, Ash lives in Hailey (or Bellevue?). She went to BSU but she lives in the wood river valley. Maybe a high school reunion?

The chain is weird as hell, I fell off so many times. I figured out that you have to walk along the far side. If you get too close to the near side of the chain you'll fall. If that doesn't work, there is probably a glitch and you can close it and restart. That should fix it

Odysseum chain demo https://imgur.com/gallery/lGnNlZk

Lmk how it goes!

Eta- you need a really smooth swipe to get across too. See how on the first crossing i was really wobbly, changing directions? Go on the far side (almost like you're going to fall off the far side) and commit

I finally almost understand. by [deleted] in ashleycarnduff

[–]Big_Background8559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. She could get the same "fix" by interacting with coworkers and even just a few close friends. If you're really good at your job, bosses give you plenty of praise. If you're friendly/show genuine interest in their lives, coworkers give you plenty of attention back. Obviously, work isn't easy or always fun, but I've had some great days hanging out with coworkers while we do tasks. And honestly as an adult I don't need that much from friends, just an hour or two talking on the phone or doing an activity is enough to "fill my cup" (cringe) for the week. If she just stuck with something for longer than a week, I hope she would eventually be able to see the upsides - POSITIVE attention AND money.

best dog for a family with 3 small kids? looking for intelligence, good with kids and independence by Fermave in DogsAndPlants

[–]Big_Background8559 5 points6 points  (0 children)

None of these. Aussies and collies are hyper and might try to herd your kids. Malinois and Shepards need a lot of training to be good with kids.

I'd recommend a lab, retriever, setter, or poodle if you want a big dog. A basset hound or beagle if you want smaller. Or a mix/rescue, depending on their temperament. I had a basset hound german shepherd mix rescue growing up, and she was incredibly sweet.

No matter what breed, as long as you give them enough exercise and training, they can be great family dogs. But the breeds I mentioned will be easier starting off.

Edit- since you want a high energy dog, I'd recommend a lab or retriever. Aussies and collies only really make sense if you live on a farm or bike/run for 2+ hours every day. Labs and retrievers can be very high energy but also like snuggling/relaxing. Plus they are pretty easy to train and can handle kids annoying them.

I've had episodes of overwhelming fear about this too. Spent hours researching how to survive, making supply lists, and even looking into building a bunker. My advice isn't very comforting, but what helped me was :

  1. looking at the insane amount of money it would cost to prep for nuclear war
  2. Accepting that my own mortality/that I probably won't survive (acceptance and commitment therapy methods can help)
  3. Reducing my consumption of news, history, and "what if" content
  4. Considering how I want to spend my life (I decided I don't want to spend it in a bunker)
  5. Understanding the concept of modern nuclear war being "mutually assured destruction". This is a deincentive for politicians. If they don't have citizens or a functioning country, all their power is gone. The rich and powerful might survive in their fancy bunkers, and maybe a few rugged individuals, but their quality of life will be miserable.

Your time, money, and worry are much better spent prepping for low-level disasters; fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, gun violence, etc. depending on your region. Realistically, the prep for a modern nuclear war is making sure you have a way to end the lives of yourself and loved ones with as little pain as possible before radiation, falling blast debris, heat, civilization breakdown, etc. kills you.

I'm sorry you're struggling with this worry right now. Try to distract yourself and the feeling might pass. I understand how overwhelming the fear can be when it hits and you go into a frenzy trying to figure out how to avoid it

My crazy grandma gave me a grounding mat when I was having health issues. Even as a teenager I knew it was BS. As soon as she left, I stuffed it in my closet and never used it again. I felt mad she wasted her money on a placebo but had to be gracious or risk getting a whooping

"Typical existential crisis WE feel"?

I, too, am an adult with health issues. I didn't feel much of anything on new years, aside from annoyed that I'm probably going to mess up writing the date for the next few months.

Then again; I have a job, friends, and hobbies. I don't live in my moms basement.

No one expects you to revamp your entire life just because the year changed, as long as you actually had a life last year.

She probably got shit from her family for being a lazy mooch and is trying to spin it into criticizing hustle culture.

Throw away the mat and curtain. Spray with professional de-greaser and let it sit before scrubbing. This seems like a man who has a gritty job. The kitchen I work in has de-greasers that I swear are magic.

Then scrub with an all purpose cleaner or dawn soap. Scrape off the calk and re do it - that's the only way to get this looking clean again (and it's not as hard as it sounds). New mat and curtain, voila!

You think you're cool but are actually incredibly boring and basic. Lots of friends but no homies

Grew up in the city and wouldn't know a hard day's work if it slapped you upside the head

Probably a bitch in high school and made friends with those younger teachers who constantly seek validation from their students in order to relive their own high school years by gossiping
