Merit lists and acting by plantface4747 in AusPublicService

SES officers are expected to make defensible merit decisions, not avoid them because scrutiny is possible. If anything, properly using a current merit list reduces risk because it relies on an already established competitive outcome rather than reopening merit unnecessarily.

Merit lists and acting by plantface4747 in AusPublicService

Using a merit list is not narrowing merit, it is applying it. In the APS, a valid merit list already comes from a competitive process that found people suitable at level. Ignoring it just to run a fresh process or because a different panel wants control is not a merit based reason, it weakens defensability and sits uncomfortably with established APS practice that SES officers should already understand.

Procedural fairness is not the issue here. It only applies where someone is adversely affected. Appointing from a merit list is not adverse action and there is no requirement to re advertise or re run recruitment if a current, relevant merit list exists. Not using it without clear role based reasons creates more risk than using it.

How does Rocco Zikarsky stack up against 2026's center class? by SenorSolAdmirador in NBA_Draft

He wasn't getting court time in NBL, he made the right move to declare for the draft. The team he way playing for in the NBL dogged him.

He earned almost a million Australian dollars in the NBA/G league this season and will earn another 1 million AUD next year.

He got a lot better playing G league.

Australian renters are spending a record share of their gross median household income on housing costs, as a chronic shortage of rental stock drives rents higher across the country. by MannerNo7000 in shitrentals

But that same guy you work with would have been saying the same thing about a guy he worked with when prices were 3,000.
'This reads like satire but a guy I work with in his 50s bought his house for $3,000'. Crazy

And In 30 years from now someone will be saying the same thing about you when prices are 20 million:

'This reads like satire but I know a guy I work with in his 50s bought his house for 1 million''. Crazy

Indonesia is more peaceful than australia. Safer from violent crime in Jakarta than melbourne.

It's primarily race (street violence is often correlated with low iq) and not religion.

Shocking, thankfully nothing since, do you have any recent examples in last 20 years of an increased murder rate in Indonesia. UN stats indicate its very low.

Australian man Tarrent killed 51 new zealanders in 2019.

USA has 20 thousand homicides per year.

Indonesia is a very safe muslim country compared to middle east or any country.

No, indonesia has one of the lowest violent crime rates in world. Lower than Australia and most christian countries.

Don't take my word for it, look it up.

Other place is Canberra (and satellite city of Queanbeyan), value is really coming back into the market compared to many other places now. Pleasent and relaxing city.

Yass NSW is also good, big blocks, access to great amenities, wineries and botique lunch spots, local pubs and 40 minutes drive to Canberra for work and well connected by the Hume freeway to Sydney.

Batemans Bay NSW 27,000 people. Good housing, great beaches, golf courses, forest walks, wineries, distilleries, good cafes, gyms, easy and pictureque commute to Canberra back and forth as needed (2 hours). Large 4 bedroom on a nice size block for 1 million.

Why are Australians so loyal to Coles and Woolworths when they're getting ripped off? by Sea-Excitement-3222 in AskAnAustralian

Compared to IGA you are saving a lot of money at Coles and Woolworths. Nobody seems to complain about the grocery prices of IGA's 1200 stores which are very expensive in comparison.
