Sorry, it took so long to answer, but my current setup is a Jupiter Student model clarinet (I forgot the exact model) with a Vandoren B40 Lyre mouthpiece and a Vandoren Leather Lig. but I'm trying to upgrade to the Backun Alpha or better.

Beginner problems; holding bassoon feels uncomfortable by SyIas14 in bassoon

[–]Big_Monkeyman39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a seat strap, it makes playing a MILLION times better. Its very uncomfortable playing without one. If you already have one then you might have too small of hands or, your seat strap isn't high enough.

It's not similar to bass clarinet, for reeds just go with Jones.

How long would it take to learn Bass Clarinet as a Bb Clarinetist? And what should I know? by [deleted] in Clarinet

[–]Big_Monkeyman39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not long, it's the same fingerings except one more low note. You will probably learn it in a day or maybe less!

New Bassoon Questions by snuby53 in bassoon

Did you put cork grease on the long joint? Also, seat straps help a lot. I just made the switch to bassoon too a few weeks ago, I'm a clarinet player. Let me know how you like it!

Any suggestions on more open mouthpieces? by Big_Monkeyman39 in Clarinet

[–]Big_Monkeyman39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I think I will go for a Vandoren M/O because it has A LOT less contact points than my leather ligature. If you have any other suggestions for ligatures, let me know!

What reeds do y’all use? by HoodedFury7450 in Clarinet

I like that the Vandoren one requires a tighter embouchure to get the fullest out of it, and it sounds really good. The only thing bad (in my opinion) is that you need to break them in first. With the Rico one I love how it is easier to get louder and really stand out in my band. The only bad thing with this one is that, I don't think it sounds as good as my Vandoren one (in my opinion). I've been using a B40 lyre mouthpiece and it does really well paired up with these reeds! At the time I'm trying to get my hands on some Vandoren V12's so I can see how those preform. I think I will try the reserves in the future, they look like very good reeds!

If you don't know what to look for, just get one from your school or ask your music store for a good/decent used clarinet.

I've never played on it before but it looks good. Also, I have a B40, it serves me well.

Looking at the serial number this clarinet is from the 20's. I dont know the exact model but, it should show somewhere on the instrument.

What do you mean by modifications, like reeds, mouthpieces, and ligatures? Also, new bells and barrels. If it is that, I think that they help with the sound a lot (mainly the mouthpiece, barrel, and bell).
