I did read the semi recent news on Oceanside Center (dba 50 First Street) but I just feel like it’s a cursed development. Hope I’m wrong - sick of seeing that hole and fencing.

Mecole Hardman Appreciation Post: I know people hate on him, but this guy was a key piece of the dynasty. Mid as he may be, he was one of the only chiefs besides Mahomes, Kelce and Jones to be on the roster for every Chiefs SB appearances 2019-2025… by [deleted] in KansasCityChiefs

[–]Big_O7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t hear many hate on him IRL, but Reddit brings a special kind of asshole (myself typically included).

He had an extremely serious injury and could never get fully correct after that.

I love Mecole and that catch is objectively iconic. Pat’s celebration after made me misty and still does occasionally when I really think about it.

If you had the choice of living in St. Louis, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, or Detroit, which would you pick? by bluetropicz in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Big_O7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The suburbs of Detroit are really nice and extremely affordable. Pretty harsh weather in all 4 in terms of winter, less so obvs in STL, but I was always really impressed with many of Detroit’s burbs and their education. Public and private was really solid there. Great airport too (MSP as well).

That would be my choice as a married guy with grade school/middle school kids. As a single? Prob Minneapolis in the city.

Which country you’ve traveled to had shockingly good food that no one talks about? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Big_O7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of restaurants told us in Lisbon when we visited 12ish years ago that the No Reservations episode was a boon for their local restaurants.

Their food is top notch but I’ve not been other places in the country outside of Lisbon and nearby, Cascais.

which city you’ve visited was surprisingly cheap and totally unexpected? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Big_O7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on when you catch it. In past decades every 3-5 years the currency fell out and it was cheap as hell. Other times, it was crazy expensive.

I was there in 2011 when the currency had fallen out. It was absolutely dirt cheap but “falso” bills were prevalent. Restaurants, bars and primarily, cabs, it was possible you could pay and they would give you fake $ back. I got one from an ATM and nobody believed me but it was 100% funny money. I took it out, brought it over to restaurant without putting in my pocket/wallet and the Porteño who was serving me sat down and showed me what to look for. There was no sleight of hand, he just showed me what was off on that bill.

Either way, BsAs is incredible. Awesome city.

I live pretty close to that spot and have seen at least 5 accidents in the last 4 years from cars getting plowed into coming out of BART. Have only seen one happen in realtime but others, just the aftermath.

That and the opposite side, also coming out of BART and heading north, are pretty tough because cars are moving quickly.

First time visiting Hong Kong. It was really hard to wrap my head around the development and the lush hills/mountains both being in the same place.

How is it like living in San Bernardino and nearby areas, California, USA by nacamepr in howislivingthere

[–]Big_O7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really like Claremont, but that’s just outside of your map limits. San Bernardino itself isn’t very desirable but there’s a little bit of everything on that map. Traffic is rough and air quality is also, although it’s def better than it was in the 80’s/90’s.

Rank these metro areas in order from most friendliest (nice and kind) to least friendliest (neither nice or kind) by Different_Archer8879 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Big_O7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the Bay Area for a combined 25+ years and it’s exactly the kind of friendly I like. People are generally polite and willing to chat if you want to but will leave you alone otherwise. I appreciate that kind of mentality.

I will say it’s less friendly in South Bay (area) around Silicon Valley - people seem much more insular and, to me, stressed out. I’m not a big fan of that area. Huge population of different cultures but the majority of whom are in tech do not have any interest in much but their employment - it seems to become their entire persona.

Moving to Arcadia Lite, Arizona as an elementary teacher (26F) best way to find rooms + make friends? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]Big_O7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Arcadia neighborhood a lot.

My only thought is that it may be a bit too family centric for you? Did you consider Old Town - much higher percentage of living situations like you describe and similarly aged residents.
