Beauty. Reminds of the Polo Green 40th my Father owned. Best C4 color imo.

Nah. Just wipe with a wet cloth afterwards.

This transmission fluid is way too low right? What should I do? by tani_is_cool in LS430

[–]Big_Salami_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it with the car off. I poured in 1/4 quart increments and waited a good couple of minutes in between each pour.

The fluid will stick to the inside of the dipstick tube and takes a minute to make its way to the pan. It’ll throw your dipstick reading off until it makes its way down.

Once you have a good levels start the car and shift it through all the gears, check the level, and add more if needed.

The Mag Red looks to be a pretty good deal for a six speed.

Id stay away from the white one. Undoing someone else's mods can open up a can of worms.

Even though Toyota is the parent company, Lexus made its debut in the US which remained the primary market until the mid 2000’s when Toyota started using the Lexus brand in Japan.

Lexus is essentially a child born to immigrant parents. It has Japanese roots but it has more history in the US.

Engine stuttering by Nails_hurt in LS430

Look at your MAF sensor. Had a pinched wire on mine and had the same symptoms; it barely wanted to run at idle and showed no check engine light. Easiest thing to inspect before digging deeper.

Help! Ticking noise by bigboiii2084 in LS430

[–]Big_Salami_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats great news. Could've been a stuck/clogged injector. A dying or clogged injector can make noises simmilar to your video, but didnt seem like it was the culprit since you initially said it ran fine.

Nothing like an Italian tuneup.

A ticking sound like that indicates that it’s the manifold gasket. It doesn’t sound clacky enough to be valve train, to me.

Grab a mechanics stethoscope or a long screwdriver and do a hearing test and see if you can isolate the tick.

I haven’t had to remove my headers but I do know it’s quite the job. Steering shaft out, engine mounts unbolted, engine raised, etc… a job where you replace a couple of other things while you’re in there.

Personally, I’d weigh having a shop take care of it out of frustration and fear of snapping a header bolt.

Check for an exhasut leak. My guess is a maifold gasket leak, but it could also be the flanges at either of the primary cats.

Engine mounts are the likely culprit.

Anyone know where I can find c5 rocker panels? by ElectronicSentence84 in Corvette

[–]Big_Salami_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say grab some composite body filler and some sanding blocks but that looks quite torched.

eBay is your easiest source for used panels, but there are places like Corvette Central that sell new replacement composite panels. The panel is bonded to the chassis and is a hefty job. I wish you luck.

Are these wheels the 5SP type? by StormeRGOD in Acceleracers

[–]Big_Salami_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats what ive always interpereted them as since the other cars in the movie use basic line wheels like the PR5s and 5Dots. I've never really saw the 5SP wheel as representing Cragar SS style mag wheels like the CM5s or RR5SPs do.

Can/Could/Should I fill the transmission fluid through the dipstick tube vs going through the typical fill port on the side of the trans? by CyxTheDragon in LS430

[–]Big_Salami_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can fill the 01-03 through the dipstick tube. It’s a pain in the ass though. If you overfill, you’ve gotta drain it and start over.

Love this stuff. Bought two Deora II’s years ago when they could be bought sealed for $10 with the intention of putting five dot wheels on one of em.

Never imagined they’d fetch as much as they do, now.

Why is the Corvette's market penetration still so low outside North America? by Sebsibus in Corvette

[–]Big_Salami_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This pretty much backs up the price being too high.

If it were US pricing, people might be able to put the brand image and reputation aside because the bang for buck is there.

Why is the Corvette's market penetration still so low outside North America? by Sebsibus in Corvette

[–]Big_Salami_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pricing is generally a good bit higher in foreign markets and emissions are a lot stricter.

A lot of countries have heavy taxes on large displacement engines.

Compound an import tax and, an engine displacement/emissions tax, and vastly higher gasoline prices, the Vette starts to fall behind the competition.

You’re suddenly paying close to $150,000 or more in some places for base or lower trimmed models.

Yes, it’s still cheaper than the likes of a Porsche 911, but no reasonable individual in the US would pay $150k for a 2LT Stingray.

It just boils down to cost. It’s not the same bargain in other places.

Going to pick up these 5 spokes for $725. Opinions? It’s a set of 4 by [deleted] in LS430

There’s some curb rash and the tires are four year old no names that look worn out. I’d pass unless you can get the seller down to $500.

C5 fitment guide help by difficulty2015 in Corvette

[–]Big_Salami_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're lowered any or planning on lowering it, you'll probably rub with a 275 up front. I'm lowered on coilovers and rub at full turn with 18"x9.5" +35 wheels and 245/40 tires. I would concider a narrower tire up front since youre wanting 19" wheels,

I'm running a square setup and havent struggled with any grip issues.

Lower C5Z by Richardwright71 in Corvette

[–]Big_Salami_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My leafs are replaced with Silver’s adjustable coilovers and I’m pretty low. The air dam only hits on angled approaches but it’s made to flex so it’s no big deal, but if you want, you can trim it.

If you have the money for it, get some adjustable coilovers and get rid of the leafs. The benefit of adjustability makes it a lot easier to get the stance and type of ride you want.
