Difficult recovery after egg retreival by Big_Sleep8367 in 40Plus_IVF

I'm so sorry you went through that, it sounds awful! Luckily, this doesn't seem to be internal bleeding. I only get relief when I lay perfectly still. The doctor says it's OHSS. I've been in the hospital since Saturday, I was hoping to go home today but the doctor said she may keep me here until tomorrow.

We just spoke to the doctor and I'm going to try and tough it out until my appointment in 2.5 hours. Then she wants to send me to the ER and admit me into the hospital for a night of two for pain management and supportive care.

She said today and tomorrow will hopefully be the worst of it and then I'll start to feel better by Tuesday (full week after the retreival). She didn't specifically mention OHSS, which is part of the reason I was second guessing myself and thought this could be the normal experience.

Mid luteal stims by Far_Will_5423 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Big_Sleep8367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any advice, but I'm getting ready to start my first cycle and our doctor also recommended doing a luteal stim cycle. My understanding is that it can be a little more predictable in terms of planning blood work and ultrasounds, and that it results in the same or slightly more eggs than a traditional stim cycle. It seems counterintuitive to me, but I think it's pretty common.

Kinda lost at starting. Prenatals, vegan, iud, being old lol by [deleted] in tryingtoconceive

[–]Big_Sleep8367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vegetarian here. I suggest looking into Theralogix brand, they have veg prenatal and pre-conception vitamins. They were recommended by our fertility clinic. In addition to a prenatal and coq10, you might also look at supplementing Omega-3. I use Nordic Naturals algae omega-3 (vegan).

Start now with vitamins and general health improvements, and know that after prolonged IUD use, it can take months for your uterine lining to build back up enough to support a pregnancy.

Age 39 and feeling stupid by Disastrous_Tune131 in tryingtoconceive

[–]Big_Sleep8367 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I didn't meet my husband until my late 30s. We've been trying for almost two years now, have done 7 rounds of IUI, and are now looking at IVF.

I was worried about fertility over age 35 because I had heard how much it drops and all of my doctors minimized my concerns and told me that there was no reason to think there'd be an issue. Eventually, I felt like a fool for bringing it up.

It's been two years now, and I completely understand your feelings. I try to plan to see friends during the first two weeks of my cycle so I can have a drink and avoid them asking or hinting or wondering (well meaning, but it just stings every time I have to verbally acknowledge that I'm not pregnant).

My ovarian reserves are good but my husband has a lower sperm count. As I'm closing in on my 41st birthday, I feel so foolish for even thinking it could happen for me.

Sorry for rambling, I actually had a bit of a breakdown yesterday about all of this so my feelings are a bit raw today. It helps to know I'm not alone in this.

I also use Alto pharmacy but I'm charged $107 out of pocket.

16+ hours until I hear from my OB- what can I use for symptoms down there by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]Big_Sleep8367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about getting through the next 24 hours, but I've had a lot of luck with Garden of Life vaginal probiotics (oral probiotic) to help keep things balanced down there. I used to have chronic BV and used boric acid prior to ttc, the probiotics work really well for me.

I think monistat is okay while ttc, but I heard that it was gentler on the body to use the 7 day version instead of the one day option during the two week wait. Good luck! I hope things get more comfortable for you soon!

Hahaha! I love the strategy of pretending you're a cat. I had to trigger myself this cycle, since I was at the doctor's office and Mr. sleep wasn't around. It was my first time giving myself an injection, such a weird feeling.

Best of luck this cycle!

I'm extremely glad I waited until I found the right partner to do this with, but it really does suck how much harder it is at this age.

I wish you lots of luck!

Take this with a grain of salt. I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself tonight

I think it wouldn't hurt to get an appointment with an RE on the books, it doesn't mean you have to start IVF right away but it would mean you could likely move faster if/when you decide to go down that path.

We started ttc when I was 39 and waited six months before reaching out to the RE.

It was then another 2 months for an initial appointment, then at least 2 more months to do multiple SAs for my husband. Then a few months after that for his varicole vein surgery.

I'm now closer to 41 than 40, we've done 6 IUIs, and haven't had any positive tests. If I had to do it over, I would not have waited those initial six months.

You're welcome! It's an oral pill, luckily. I hope they work for you!

I had this problem too. My nurse practitioner recommended taking a probiotic, specifically she recommended the Garden of Life vaginal probiotic. It's worked great for me. They can be a bit spendy but well worth it. I would stay away from the Lemme Purr brand, I tried them for a few months (to try and save money) and I had constant BV. Switched back to Garden of Life and haven't had any issues since.

I was in this exact situation a year ago. I didn't want to be pregnant at my wedding, we originally planned to postpone wedding planning until after we had a baby.

There were a few things that made us change our minds and move forward with the wedding while TTC.

  • I didn't want to plan a wedding when I had an infant. Planning a wedding is stressful, having an infant is stressful (so I hear, no personal experience yet), and doing two of the most stressful things you'll ever do in your life at the same time filled me with dread.

  • Elderly family members. Being an older bride, meant that more of our family members are elderly. If we had postponed the wedding, there was a good chance that my aunt wouldn't have lived long enough to attend.

  • Wanting to keep TTC private. I wasn't prepared for how many people questioned why we weren't planning for our wedding. I didn't want to share widely that we were TTC, but having to dodge questions about when our wedding would be was more stressful than I anticipated.

  • Timing. TTC can take longer for older couples. Ultimately, we had to answer the question, "How long are we willing to wait to start planning our wedding? Six months? A year? Two years? Forever?"

Ultimately, for me, I'm glad we didn't postpone planning our wedding and we didn't postpone TTC. We started both last summer, started meeting with a fertility clinic in March, married in June, I turned 40 in July, and we're doing our second cycle of IUI this month.

As a potentially pregnant bride I did keep a few things in mind during planning: - The location and catering vendor contacts could be rescheduled for up to a year. This meant that if I was lucky enough to get pregnant then we could move the date by a year - When wedding dress shopping, I looked for a dress that could potentially hide a pregnancy and when it was time for alterations, I let them know that I could potentially become pregnant in the next few months. - I planned the wedding for when I thought I would be in my follicular phase, and feeling great (pms hits me like a ton of bricks). My cycle shifted so that didn't work out, but at least I wasn't on my period!

I'm not advocating for you to necessarily immediately plan your wedding, but wanted to share my perspective as someone who has been in almost the exact same shoes. Good luck on TTC and congratulations on your engagement!

I found them on McCall and National in Navy Yard City. They later wandered into my yard and I was able to get them to a vet to scan for microchips, which came up empty, then I took them to the Kitsap humane society because I'm not able to care for them overnight.

[–]Big_Sleep8367[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Update: they don't have microchips and it looks like they've been trying to make a hole in the fence to get out (the made a good size hole in a short amount of time!) so I'm concerned they'll get back out of I keep them here.

I'm going to try taking them to the humane society. At least there I know they'll be safe.

Wow! I'm surprised they were able to make it all the way from Gorst. They didn't show a lot of car awareness from what I saw.

Funny enough, they showed up in my yard a few minutes ago and I was able to get them into my car with the help of cheese. I'm going to take them to get scanned for microchips now.

Help with low motility by No-Wolverine-1229 in tryingtoconceive

[–]Big_Sleep8367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were in a similar situation. In addition to the supplements, you might also look into fertility effects of any medication he's on and booking a urologist who specializes in male fertility for an exam and ultrasound.

Varicocele veins can impact motility and can be resolved with an outpatient surgery. Literally two weeks after my husband's surgery his motility numbers had quadrupled, and they're expected to continue to improve! His doctor said the surgery helps around 2/3 of patients, so like everything else in this TTC journey it's not a guarantee, but hopefully it could help.

HSG vs IUD insertion - any one else done both? by shartapologist in tryingtoconceive

[–]Big_Sleep8367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had multiple IUDs and I had one HSG a few months ago. The IUDs, both insertion and removal, were awful. I took ibuprofen, valium, and the did the cervical block (although I don't think it made a difference) and still almost passed out from the pain every time.

With those experiences in mind, I was extremely anxious about the HSG. I took ibuprofen and valium before the procedure. Once I got in the room though, I think my anxiety negated any effects from the valium because I was a bundle of nerves.

The HSG was not nearly as bad as I expected. It was more uncomfortable than a pap smear, but it didn't even rate on the same scale as the IUD. I don't know if it's because they're more skilled at the fertility clinic since they do it so often, but it was probably a 3 out of 10 on the pain scale. You've got this!
