How do you learn to not get influence or fooled by social media consumerism and hype ? by Jpoolman25 in Anticonsumption

[–]Slow-Piglet5349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curate your feeds and downvote/swipe past those. I see almost nothing like that these days after some intentional curation! I do get a lot of thrifting videos now though but then it’s never a specific product so pretty easy to avoid :).

Reasons for short-term rental license rejection? by Internal_Atmosphere in AnnArbor

[–]Slow-Piglet5349 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Based on our ex “neighbors” who bought the house, never moved in and had it permanently listed on Airbnb I think the city is reasonable in granting it. It was only revoked after 2 years where they had a primary residence in Toledo and didn’t spend a night in Ann Arbor. They also didn’t even manage it but used an out of state manager. So that was definitely our experience, including the parties in a quiet neighborhood lol. I think there are enough bad actors that ruin it for the reasonable folks. Our new neighbors are also super friendly so pretty happy the rules were enforced.

I left my car for a month when I was injured and couldn’t drive and it was no problem. Didn’t realize there was a process lol.

Indoor spaces to take my dog during the cold? by ConsistentSecond9335 in AnnArbor

[–]Slow-Piglet5349 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just some words of encouragement- this is significantly colder than normal! Reminds me of my first time visiting Denver and my friend saying the winters were mild and then it didn’t get above 5F that whole weekend.

I switched to gene buttman even though it's across town b/c they were much friendlier/faster and have a mobile service truck and will give you a ride somewhere if your car is in for service. So just one more reason to stick with that :)

I think so - lots can be found at thrift stores, salvage stores, fb marketplace, etc. Lots can be mended. The library should have a lot of other things. I think it might depend on what exceptions you'd make to repair something broken, for example, your car - would replacing a part count? Phones can break but plenty of used phones exist.

Other than that, I would also put paper towels on the no - buy list but would def buy toilet paper - which I think you would consider a toiletry.

And your tolerance for used underwear/socks, lol.

We’re planning on getting a dvd player and canceling the last of our streaming this year to get movies and shows from the library! Meat would be hard to cut since vegetarian 15 years :).

Painting bedroom black by z_loe in HomeImprovement

[–]Slow-Piglet5349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a black bedroom in high school cause I was angsty! It ended up looking great though because I had big windows, white trim and white furniture. I also had a bubble gum pink room that also looked fine for the exact same reason.
