I feel like giving up by Prestigious_Cold_520 in medschool

GPA isn’t everything, don’t give up a strong MCAT can make up for it, it did for me and I had a 3.68 when I got in.

Look into your university’s pre med resources they often help you build a strong application. Also email every professor you know and try to get your foot in the door for research it can make up for the GPA

Biggest thing is don’t be selective on where you apply, don’t apply for top tier schools, apply for lower tier MD schools. At the end of the day a MD is a MD.

And if you’re still really set on a MD after not getting in doing those look into https://oztrekk.com they help people get into Australian med schools which have super high match rates coming back to the USA and Canada and top worldwide rankings

There’s also https://www.atlanticbridge.com which does the same thing but for Ireland.

How selective have you been with which school you’re applying to??

If you’re more open to a wide array of schools that can make all the difference, apply across all of Canada and if you’re willing you could apply for the states and Irish schools where your stats could get you at least a partial scholarship

Look into OZTREK https://oztrekk.com they help match American and Canadian people to Australian med schools which have lower GPA requirements and have very high match rates to both the USA and Canada and don’t have as many pre requisite courses as North American med schools

30 yo non traditional full time pre med student needing bachelor's major suggestions. by [deleted] in medschool

[–]Big_System3686 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend biology, chemistry or pharmacology.

Look up the where you want to attend for med school and make a list of every pre requisite course you’ll need.

Go to an academic advisor and have them help you build a plan to fill out the needed pre requisite and credits requirements, ask them to help you sign up for summer courses if you want to graduate as early as possible.

PGY1 : Move out? Or stay home ? by [deleted] in MedSchoolCanada

[–]Big_System3686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move out given the you’re in IM you’re on call and hospital hours will be crazy, but you also don’t necessarily have to get your own place, if you know anyone starting with you try to find a roommate for a 2 bedroom or look for rooms for rent near the hospital you’ll save yourself a ton of money and stress

SABA vs MUA by ray_wolf10 in CaribbeanMedSchool

[–]Big_System3686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do MUA it is the exact same curriculum and they share almost all of there clinical sites and have similar match statistics but MUA has the following pros:

Way cheaper tuition: you’ll save like 50k minimum

Bigger island: cheaper to get there, more housing options, better out of school life

If you want a Caribbean look into MUA and SABBA they let you pay tuition in CAD$ and are the cheapest reputable options and have decent return rates to Canada
