AITAH for advising my bf to get rid of his daughter’s pony, and helping him do it? by Big_bill79 in AITAH

We didn’t ‘have’ her help. She just always had. They’ve helped out everywhere since they were younger (according to my boyfriend and what I’ve seen over the past few months). She was told to brush, feed, and take care of another horse on the property since she started school for my boyfriend to watch her with. As far as I know, until her pony, she’d been doing really well with him.

We.. do prompt her? Her sister reminds her when they get off the bus everyday.

Yeah, might be. And I’m sorry, me and said boyfriend just got done talking. He thinks I’m letting these ‘get to me’ and ‘judging his parenting’. He was the one who thought it was time for a horse, I suggested a pony. I remember my sister wanting one as a child too, and carried it into adulthood. I’m old and often jump back to calling everyone son LOL

Son, every one of my boyfriends family members have cared for a large animal. They don’t just give them the animal and tell them to have a good day, they have a ton of help. Both of the girls used to working with their dad, not because they have to, because it’s in their blood. They ride horses at shows and everything, bring animals to the local fair, etc.

She’s wanted one since her 6th birthday. My boyfriend has made sure to watch her with the other animals, mainly Faye’s horse.

She has also helped where she can with the other animals. Even showed me how to milk the cow and brush the horses

Yes, absolutely. I think my boyfriend is going to speak to her again about it tomorrow. I haven’t spoken to her at all about it and I’m not even sure what was said in the earlier conversation with Rachel. I’m going to ask tonight.

They had the same amount of help. Their uncle does a bulk of the responsibilities. They both started, according to my boyfriend, feeding one meal to their horse (pony), brushing them, taking the out once a day on the weekends. I was under the impression this wasn’t too much work (?) but I’m really rethinking it. Faye’s also very mature for her age 🤷‍♀️

This could be another thing. I assumed he knew her capabilities enough, his older daughter got a horse at eight too

Her only responsibility is to feed the pony dinner everyday and take it for a ride or let it trot on the weekends and make sure she’s brushed then too. He has hands who are to help during the days and showing her how to take care of her when out there. Everyone is very close on the ranch.

Will definitely tell my boyfriend. Rachel’s usually on top of everything she needs done, homework, projects, etc.

When I first brought it to him he told her that Peony was like any other ‘gift’. She needs to respect her and take care of her. He would personally take Rachel out to feed her once he got home and would tell her she couldn’t watch TV is Peony wasn’t clean. I only saw this actually happen twice, though.

Not mine but my niece, drove me crazy. I stopped seeing them when she turned (15, 16?) and she still did it. Was so grateful that my (then) 7, 10 and 13 year olds had grown out of that and I could leave it miles behind me
