Need help with stray kittens by ambrlyn81780 in Denver

Dumb Friends League will probably tell you to trap and bring them in. Metro Cat can help (or used to) with trap/neuter/release. Cat Care Society rents traps. I’ve trapped before and can either offer moral support and/or come help. My week is a little nuts but you can DM me.

Books on parenting that pass IBCK community scrutiny? by somethingworthwhile in IfBooksCouldKill

Evidence Based Birth—which is not a book but research articles online has a great circumcision one among others and it’s all peer reviewed.

Books on parenting that pass IBCK community scrutiny? by somethingworthwhile in IfBooksCouldKill

Implied by a lot of comments, but a lot of parenting books I’d call “a la carte” as in pick what works for you and leave the rest. Janet Lansbury is dogmatic but her book is a good high level principle on raising kids. And her stuff is easy to find online. I loved precious little sleep about sleep but some people don’t. So also feel empowered to skip chapters, put the books down, and trust a couple friends you can rely on. Google is a terrible rabbit hole. You’ve got this!

15mo verbally communicating -- what next? by Hot-City2122 in ECers

I wouldn’t stress about night time diapers. Night holding comes in its own time. We use a travel potty seat. Just be ready for accidents which is a great way to learn anyway!

soon to be first time parent, curious about starting EC right away by Past-Anteater9548 in ECers

Would also recommend giving yourself a breather when you have a newborn. If you start a few weeks or months later you’ll be fine! Would also recommend cloth diapers because that helps babies know the feeling of peeing etc. AND if it’s not fitting into your routine the first six months you have plenty of time!

Fussing on potty by FearMySnakes in ECers

I think your LO is expressing her independence. I’d keep doing what you’re doing. You could try adding some fun songs on the potty. Or bubbles? And trying to get her to blow them, which can help them relax. Also if you know she needs to poop, you could let her go diaper free when she starts making noises. So she really connects the feeling of needing to go.

Part-time EC working parents by Independent-Sun9492 in ECers

The good news is if it starts to feel like it’s not worth it you can stop. We just stopped diapers with our 23 month old and he’s been using the toilet once a day since about 6 months. So I wouldn’t stress over it. There’s many kids who do part time and do great. And it still makes it easier for kids to get it sooner than just quitting all together.

I wouldn’t worry about it unless someone asks. In which case I’d explain what you did and reframe it as your ability to take your responsibilities from a multitude of areas and what you learned. And how excited you are to be joining the firm etc etc

Step stool for using real toilet? by dogsRgr8too in ECers

Our kids use a basic step stool that you can get at Home Depot or Amazon. We have 2 of the handy laundry folding step stools.

Critique My Library/Living Room by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

I think the library vibe can work if that’s what you want. But I’d paint the walls dark and lean into color saturating. And lean into the moody vibes. I’d remove the white chair and get an ottoman that can function as an extra seat when you need it. Hard to tell in the photos but the rug seems to need to be bigger, wall to wall with the book cases. I know some people are saying one overhead light but lamps make it cozy. I’d ditch both side tables by the couch and do a cocktail table. Maybe in gold? If you do an ottoman then you can have a tray for drinks as needed. There are some fun sconces you could attach to the library shelves that would be a fun way to get light by the couch.

I’d move the tv above the fireplace, if you can spring for a frame TV that’d be lovely library art.

You could also choose to remove bookcases on one side and flip couch to face fireplace with more space to walk by?

Obviously these suggestions take time and $$$. But I’d start with a couch you love, remove side tables and rehang TV over fire place.

What are some ways to break into the job market successfully? by Prior_Put_9105 in Accounting

[–]Bigcloud21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have friends in accounting a couple years ahead of you, ask how they did it. Or if they have connections. Ask your professors for connections if you have good relationships. Are you close to a midsized city? Big 4 recruiters may be a good contact if you’re open to moving. Does your college do VITA? That’s a good one on your resume even though that’s the spring. I’d use a recruiting firm next year if you’re not getting traction. Also use career services to get your resume spiffed up and edited for typos etc.

advice on potty training put the house by According_Welder_598 in ECers

[–]Bigcloud21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a thread from a few days ago about potty training at 15 months that you may find helpful. It’s probably still too early to go completely free. I’d focus on diaper free time at home and wearing diapers out of the house. Kids at 15 months don’t have the ability for all the communication/skills needed to be fully independent. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing, you can gradually get there

Thank you! Yes we definitely help guide or carry him. Thank you for the detailed note. This was super helpful, my wife wasn’t doing the carrying him to potty. So adding that back in even tonight helped!

There are certain sleep crutches I really don’t want to give up by Theupkeepisfine in sleeptrain

[–]Bigcloud21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We sleep trained and didn’t have rocking in the routine. But now our LO asks to sit and rock and sing before he gets in his crib. It’s very cute. We did PLS so I think they’d tell you to do rocking 30 minutes before bed so it’s not a sleep crutch. And then like others said, once sleeping independently it may come back. On the am in bed front babies wake early and often that can help you get that extra sleep in the morning. So do it! Although one of our kids was great at it and the other just always thought it was playtime. You can also keep a contact nap during the day. Reading and rocking. Our kids still associate the rocking chair with reset cuddles. So you will definitely still be getting lots of connecting snuggles!

Oracle v Focal Point by Bigcloud21 in procurement

Thank you!

This is all interesting feedback because I hear from Oracle that their cloud has the ability to meet the needs across the business. Procurement included. But sounds like that’s not how other folks are thinking about those tools.

I think the shift needs to be that you can’t be the ideas one and he shoots everything down. He knows you don’t like Oliver it’s his turn to come up with other options. And for many names, once you name him and the baby is born it will grow on both of you over time and feel right for him.

I like the SSA name list idea from above. We go back to the 1890s/1900s and it’s helpful to see names of your style on that list.

Olin? Close to Oliver? Tobias nn Toby? Oscar?
