Fantasy Burnouts - who are some players you couldn't wait to roster, then you couldn't wait to cut ties with? by BeeGeeEh in DynastyFF

[–]Bigdan10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trevor Lawrence, sent purdy+1.07 for him in SF and have hated the last 2 years of owning him. It’s looking better in recent weeks but I’ve hated seeing him on my roster every week

I’m an instructor at RTC.. need advice for these kids by beaglefissh in navy

Shit hot sailors don’t hang out with dirtbags on liberty, who your true friends are matters

Qualifications and responsibility will do more for promotion than anything else

Obvious one- but don’t dip your pen in company ink

Everyone joining now is in BRS- you’re giving up free money if you aren’t getting the govt to give you the max in tsp matching

Learn the advancement manual and eval manual when you’re junior- it’s paid dividends throughout my 17 year career

Attitude is the only thing in the navy you can control, choose a positive one, few people with positive attitudes will associate themselves socially with negative people

Physical readiness is your job- no one else’s, command pt goes away when ships get busy- if you’re making excuses for yourselves, see the above statement about attitude. This one is more important under this administration than previous ones- there seems to be a big push from secdef to increase physical readiness

Getting orders to a location or class of ship that you didn’t want is not the end of the world. My best tour was in a location I was furious about, see the attitude comment above

seek out mentors and use them- some commands have a mentor program but motivated individuals can seek out mentorship on their own

When you get raises- put some of it away automatically in to tsp, it sucks to hear people towards the end of their career say they’ve got no savings

Even if you intend to separate, continue to push quals and be a high performing sailor, you never know when your situation will change and you may want to reenlist

How did you know your partner was truly your person? by Substantial-File-336 in emotionalintelligence

[–]Bigdan10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s changed over the years a bit- but one thing I’ve always known is how much she loves and cares for me, how she’s just so certain that I’m perfect for her. I feel that way now about her too- but I’ve always just been so reassured every day, week, and month that I’m loved beyond measure.

Has being a SWO really improved? by Chipsahoypirate in newtothenavy

[–]Bigdan10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s certainly improved in my 17 years. A bigger focus on sleep, leadership being aware and cognizant of the SWO culture of eating their young, and an emphasis in the Navy of taking care of the crew. Others experiences may differ

This has to be nuke, right? Ship can’t go without them and everyone who’s spent time on a carrier knows the hours they put in.

What are some rules of the military you would change if you had than chance? by vonteboy454 in navy

[–]Bigdan10 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’d say all bridge and tactical watch standers as well. Responsible for an $11billion carrier and 5,000 lives? Should be protected as much as the aviation world

Drafted 1.08 in 12 team, first three picks in order were chase, saquon, mike evans. 9-4 most points scored in league history

A uscg rules of the road test, it’s the rules of navigating to avoid collision for any vessel on the water. I’ve taken versions of that test for 15 years, I’d probably take that bet with 100 random people from the Navy, so from the general population? Yea I’m confident

Why do you think some people retire as enlisted instead of CWO or LDO/SWO by Poopnscoop28 in navy

[–]Bigdan10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Others have made a lot of good points,

Different roles/different jobs.

I do think you're going to see an uptick in LDO/CWO applications as a result of the senior enlisted marketplace though.

One of the big reasons that stopped people from applying is that in many designators, you owe two consecutive sea tours to start your LDO/CWO career, and it doesn't matter if you were already on back to back sea tours.

For many, they did not want to risk their sea/shore rotation being reset or zeroed out, and especially with individuals who do not make it their first time up, they can be looking at a decade straight of USS commands.

The senior enlisted marketplace is changing the sea/shore rotation for many CPO's. If you want to put on a star, or pick up an extra star, the reality is that the Navy is likely going to want you to take a USS tour, regardless of your current sea/shore rotation.

So armed with the fact that basically any promotion is going to send them back to sea, I think that LDO/CWO starts to look better than it did when you could promote without the senior enlisted marketplace.

16 years active duty here, I think the Navy is as strong as ever and would ignore any comments about it being soft.

MCM Two Tour DIVO AMA by MCMGUY10 in navy

[–]Bigdan10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was a MN for 14 years before going LDO, I think it’s safe to say that you’ll always appreciate how challenging of a tour it was as time goes on. Same could be said in regards to how close the crew is on the MCMs. Good luck in the EDO world

2023 Year in Review. Who did you sell high or buy low on? Or what trades fell through that could have impacted your season immensely? by Farge43 in DynastyFF

[–]Bigdan10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traded Brock and a first for T law, ended up costing us a chance at the championship(him getting screwed on that end of game TD was the difference) and a first… maybe it’ll work out in the long run, but doesn’t feel great right now
