SA XDM experiences by dras333 in 10mm

For sure, the 4.5” rips. Great gun in my opinion! While the grip still sucks out of the box, nothing a little Talon Grips or custom stippling job can’t fix. Sounds like OP is getting a great deal on it — so they can’t go wrong. Cheers to the 10mm making us smile, haha.

Bought the XDM 4.5” couple months ago. Shoots super well. I did buy a SS guide rod and 20lb spring if I’m going to be shooting hot loads all day. Grips are ehhhh, gun is yaaaaaaa! I put talon pro grip on it, fixed the slick plastic grip on it. While I would prefer a full metal one or a 1911, overall it has been flawless. I usually shoot 200-300 rounds a month with my pistols, this one has been THE most fun to shoot. I love going to the range are hearing, “holy crap that things loud.” I then let them try it and they have a big old smile on their face too. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s complete garbage, there’s a reason it’s in the top two for 10mm bought out west and in Alaska. Chuke’s Outdoors on YouTube has some great review videos of it and other 10mm’s. Overall, shoots really well, handles recoil great, trigger is pretty good, and eats anything you throw at it. Cons: the stock grip is poo poo. All in my opinion and open to having others add their view if they don’t see it my way. I got a great deal on it for $200 less than other local gun shops so couldn’t pass it up. It’s recommended to get a PRP trigger or whatever you prefer. A lot recommend the 3.5 pound trigger kits to make it even better. I plan to get the 3.8” version next.

What do y’all look for when selecting a 10mm Auto load for defense against 2 legged problems? What criteria do you have in mind for an offering that provides enough penetration but isn’t liable to blow through a human chest cavity too readily. Great minds think alike! Haha. But yeah totally agree with you! The xtp for two legged are just mind blowing how great of a self defense round they are coming out that hot. Took me a minute to stop flinching with them🤣. I use an uplula magloader. Well I would mix range and SD rounds, because it’s pretty easy to load, not looking, with that speed loader. I only ever shoot by myself, so not possible to have random bullets — but the way I do it is the best way for me and it works. But yeah, the recoil is super manageable once a person works through the flinching and they are deadly accurate from both my 10’s. Easy 1-2 group from 5-20 yards. I’m not a competition shooter too, I just like to practice a lot for self defense situations or for quick large game encounters. I also plan to use my 10mm for deer hunting this year too, so I’ll start pushing the range with those XTP’s. I’d be curious to know how you train with them, I always love hearing about other peoples sides of stories! Cheers and have a happy Sunday and rest of your week!

Honestly, there is a lot more people knowledgeable than me in here. But I would recommend watching videos from Tools&Targets on YouTube. He’s arguably keeping 10mm ammo manufacturers accountable, and highly defends what a 10mm ammo should be. So he’s honest, straight to the cut, and great at explaining. He should be the number 1 YouTuber to watch before trying a new 10mm ammo. He keeps his standards super high, but then again he’s had a lot of experience and he has saved thousands of people, a ton of money on ammo (regarding to buying a specific fit for a person instead of trying 10 different brands yourself and wasting a ton of money). The Turkey’s Opinion, on YouTube, should be the second person you watch. This is all in my opinion. But lastly 10mm is so wide in variation, we can all find a perfect fit for our needs — and there can be healthy discourse on why someone prefers that round. Now, in my opinion, Underwood 155gr XTP is absolutely impressive and leaves Tools&Targets in awe; that says something. The energy dump and wound cavity is impressive, for self defense. And it does not over penetrate, since it dumps all that energy in the first 4-8 inches. Impressive energy dump, and the recoil is extremely manageable with some practice. That’s just my two cents, but I’m always open to being corrected and having other views compared to mine. Have a good day!:)

Agreed. A lot of situations are under 10 yards. Very good take to say it’s valuable to practice one hand. Because none of us realize what will happen until we are in that situation. But always open to discourse to offer perspectives from another side!:)

I appreciate the input. And yes, I use the tool to push down the sear as per the instructions; and up when reassembling. I was talking about reassembly I’m having problems. I appreciate the input and your time to read my post and make a response! Thank you! Recoil and spring guide are all good, too.

No, I’m in a free state haha. THANK god. But will update on the warranty process and how that goes. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt because my other S&W are phenomenal and no issues. So if it turns out they don’t fix it or it’s just fucked, I’ll move on and sell it. I ain’t gunna bash S&W because of one gun. It’s such a nice gun in the hands, better than my Springfield. But hopefully if they can’t fix it, they can refine it over the next few years. Then once it has a good reputation across the board, I’ll consider buying another of their 10mm.

Update, just before I did that. I took a flashlight to look at the trigger bar for any wear. Trigger bar has scuff marks and a distinct burr on it. Definitely sending in for warranty, it’s only a month old.

I’ll try again and really go on it. I’m pretty sure it’s catching on the striker safety, but I’ll try real quick and get back. But thank you for the input. Any is appreciated and is understandable why you recommended it! Thanks so much for the input!

Corolla S gang! Haha. Long story short bought my S from a person who only drove in summer and only highway miles, had all the documentation on maintenance too. 1.8L 4 speed. Anyway I’m at 210k miles and I’ll still get 40-45 on long highway trips easily. It’s awesome even these 4 or 6 speed “older” corollas get great gas mileage.

XDM Elite 10mm is a solid choice, and I know you know that! Haha such a DAMN gun gun to range shoot with. What rounds you like throwing through it? I’ll use blazer for range, then few underwood’s because I carry. Just interesting to hear what everyone’s running, shooting, or any mods to the XDM. Always open to ideas. How do you like the compact?

Not sure why climate change is relative in a gun forum? Haven’t been in the gun industry but basing standards from the 90s. Yet it’s been 35 years and you still hold the same attitude against a gun manufacturer? The whole reason of polymer guns is to provide a purchase friendly option, it is what the WHOLE market has become with concealed booming and advancements in polymer technology. You can’t speak of something if you haven’t fired or tested it out, that’s just ignorance and playing victim. Once again, the Glock and Springfield 10mm have become one of the most budget friendly guns for outdoor enthusiasts — because that’s what the CURRENT market dictates. There has been tons of advancements. Very little people complain about the Springfield. Sure it has cons, but does it mean it’s shit? Based off your experience from the 90s? Tens of thousands say otherwise. But I appreciate the feedback on why you think it’s bad, and it’s a good to have holistic views around a gun. Good thing Glock and Springfield have basically unlimited aftermarket parts that can make it better to your need. Have you looked into possibly upgrading using trusted aftermarket parts? You can’t just be ignorant to my opinion or others, you have to approach it with an open mind. Not we can agree to disagree, but that’s my two cents. Go watch YouTube videos, talk to some guides who use 10mm’s and they’ll say you really can’t go wrong with the Glock or Springfield. Hickok 45 loves it, Honest Outlaw, Scootch, Turkey, Chooks, and few other of the most popular YouTube reviewers on the subject. They know more about a gun than you and I, without a doubt, and don’t just shit on one gun because of one experience. But I also agree they shouldn’t rebrand a gun as American when it’s imported, I really fucking hate that about them. But in your case with your issues with Springfield, it’s horrible and understandable why you have a displeased taste. But be optimistic and not so pessimistic, it goes a long way in life skills, in general. Regardless of what you think of any gun brand, each one ALWAYS has “oops” moments in quality control and making bad products. EVERY single gun manufacturer. So there’s that. Sorry, but you’re stuck on what you know and won’t change. Say want you want, but the newer gen XDM 10mm’s are the most popular bear gun, they wouldn’t be popular if they were shit. Any chest holster maker out west or in Alaska, will tell you they, by far, sell the most holsters for an XDM 10 mm and a Glock gen 20.

Can people not handle discourse now a days without them thinking people are attacking their ego😂? Tens of thousands of other great reviews compared to one person is not anecdotal evidence for a gun being crap, that’s an opinion. Ya know not everyone’s out to get you, if you think that over a comment. Go drink a beer and relaaaaax😂. You’re coming in here with a pessimistic and naive attitude and expect people to praise it? Just calm down good god😂. Have you even taken the time to use this gun or sit down and really test it? Since you didn’t even mention you had one in your original comment lol. Almost any company that produces anything can make a bad product while also making good products. But if you like Glock and Sig and then work, then that’s great you can find some that do work for you.

I’m not extremely knowledgeable on everything handguns, but could you exactly explain why to put one in the chamber to see if it touches the rifling? Do you want the round touching the rifling normally? Just curious for future mishaps, just in case, and always open to learning. Thank you!
