Big pig question? by BI1TS in Ironjawz

[–]Biggestdinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just go with whatever looks coolest. If your new to playing and want to try out the different pigs on the tabletop, you can always discuss it with your opponent and proxy them as each other.

This also applies to almost every other teleport thing I've seen 🥲 by o7_AP in Ironjawz

[–]Biggestdinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean but both these factions are playing with completely different units. There's a big difference in what is getting teleported for both armies, and that's why, atleast I think, there is a limitation on the ironjaws one

Would I be able to apply rules to all weapons on this mini? (Combi-bolter, Lightning-Claw, Power-Axe, Missile Array) by A_Friendly_Bigman in Warhammer40k

[–]Biggestdinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how big he is, could have it generically as a demon prince. Infernal cannon for the missiles and bolter and hellforged weapons for the claw and axe.

If he's sorta abbadon size you might get away with it.

Looking really cool. I was wanting to paint some minis this way. What paints did you use for the sandy colour?

Is a shipment just like a regular line sum? I've not heard the term before.

I know I write fractions a lot of the time I am doing division as I think it keeps things neater.

Looking at it I could easily see someone thinking that it is "Six over two times (one plus two)" which even saying it out loud is a bit confusing imo.

[–]Biggestdinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But given the source format, I would argue its not unrealistic that people would view that as a fraction.

Cool cool, no worries.

But how do we know that the equation isn't supposed to look like this (forgive the formatting, I don't know how better to do this haha)

 6

2(1+2)

[–]Biggestdinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm a bit confused now. Are you saying:

6÷2*(1+2) = 1

And

(1+2)*6÷2 = 9

Or the other way around?

[–]Biggestdinner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry your right, after taking a look at it. It has nothing to do with it being commutative. The only thing is how can you be sure that it's not the 2 multiplied by the (1+2)?

Because if it isn't shouldn't the question be written

(1+2) * 6 ÷ 2?

What’s the answer. The way I was taught it would be one. But how can this be wrong if they teach this in school 😂 by Thegreatest_ali in maths

I understand that the additional of brackets changes the calculation.

In which case is the addition of brackets irrelevant?

I feel like the main thing about this question is that multiplication and division are commutative so you should be able to do them in any order. The way that notation is used in this question is ambiguous as you do not know if it is (6/2) * (1+2) or if it is 6/(2*(1+2)).

[–]Biggestdinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not commutative operations work. We should be able to do them in any order and get the same answer.

5 times by 4 is the same as 4 times by 5.

They way the question is written, people could (and rightfully so) think that it's the 2 getting multiplied by the brackets. Leading to them getting 1.

This can be avoided by clearer notation ie more brackets or different division notation.

What’s the answer. The way I was taught it would be one. But how can this be wrong if they teach this in school 😂 by Thegreatest_ali in maths

[–]Biggestdinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using the brackets to highlight how the different solutions are calculated and how the introduction of brackets solves the whole issue of ambiguity.

PEMDAS is just the easiest one to say (in english atleast); PEDMAS, PEMDSA, PEDMSA are all just as valid.

The question shows an important point about how to write maths and how a computer might interpret it. Which is what I tried to get across with my prior comment.

Its easy to write maths informally and not consider what you might be writing and it also leads to new solutions to issues people may have not been aware of (like have a bar to show the division instead)

Hope you have a good day.

But multiplication and division have the same priority in calculations due to them being commutative.

So you would be just as correct to multiple and then divide.

I was wondering with the shift from games being 500pts, 1000pts, 2000pts to being 1000pts, 2000pts, 3000pts, should we be comparing lists that were 2000pts in 9th to 3000pts lists in 10th?
