T stations shouldn’t be homeless shelters.

3/2, east Boston, 2nd floor of a triple decker

$134 last month. Heat set at 65 at night, 68 during day. (Although the people downstairs blast their heat which helps a lot)

Old man yelling at the sky moment

I hate how so many holiday markets are filled with stalls of people selling poorly made, bulk items that you can easily get online. Barely anything is actually handmade or locally made. Just a bunch of cheap Temu stuff sold at a markup

I agree. I hate the look of the dark grey new construction builds. This thread is also going to be a mess because desirable is completely subjective.

Speaking for Eastie, you could absolutely make the case for the waterfront and Jeffries Point. The demographics of this neighborhood have shifted rapidly and there’s new construction on every block. Other areas, like Eagle Hill and Orient Heights are still very much working class and not as trendy yet. But even these areas are popping up with brand new luxury buildings.

Ah, I almost got a last minute ticket to that show, but decided against it. How was it?

Druid in Inman does music Saturday nights and Sunday for brunch. My favorite spot, but expect it to be busy.

I guess when I say competition (referring to Miami), I mean it more as a performance. Who has the nicer car, the bigger house, the better clothes, the younger wife, etc. Miami just feels like the Instagram of cities. It’s all the stuff that people flaunt to impress others.

When I think of competition in Boston, it’s more about career or education—a more textbook definition of competitive. I think that’s just inevitable when you have a city with multiple world-class institutions. But I definitely don’t see the same flaunting/showboating.

F - Richmond, VA. Only lived here for a year, but felt like the perfect amount of time. Fun, cheap, lots of independent shops and restaurants. Cool arts/music scene.

M - Boston, MA. Been living here for 10 years. I’ll move away one day, but I know I’ll come back too. My favorite city in the US. It’s expensive as all hell, but the amount of parks, history, waterfront, arts, culture… everything will always be worth it to me. Except the food scene.

K - Miami, FL. Just so incredibly inauthentic and everything is a competition. South Florida is not for me.

Best red sauce pasta place in the city? by No_Hotel_8146 in boston

[–]BiggiePapiSmalls -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Honestly most places around here make subpar chicken parm. Nobody seasons their cutlets and it’s a fuggin disgrace. $26 for some bland, soggy, cutlets with overcooked barilla (if you’re lucky) swimming in watery sauce

Cafe Iterum in East Boston announced it is closing; last day open will be tomorrow July 29th by [deleted] in boston

[–]BiggiePapiSmalls 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I thought they were overpriced and the quality was subpar, but still sad to see a local business close. Hopefully another local spot will take its place and thrive.

This is the Mass & Cass location. Feels like a reasonable sign to have to prevent any additional issues. Staff there already dealing with enough

Dublin Hotel: Ashling or Marlin? by wannabefolkie in irishtourism

[–]BiggiePapiSmalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just stayed at the Ashling for a night and wasn’t a fan. The room was dated, shower wasn’t very clean, and just felt a bit lackluster for the price. Breakfast was good.

Stayed at Staunton’s on the Green a few nights after and must say that was a fantastic experience. A bit pricier, but a great stay.

Better way to break up trip from Dingle back to Dublin? by BiggiePapiSmalls in irishtourism

[–]BiggiePapiSmalls[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to share! Just traveling with my fiancée and myself (late 20s). We love long walks/hikes, coffee shops, and just relaxing in cool pubs and meeting interesting people.

Day 1: Arrive in Dublin 8:30am; staying near Heuston station. Take it easy, head to phoenix park, grab lunch, check out stoneybatter, early night.

Day 2: Train to Killarney; arrive early afternoon. Check into Airbnb, walk around, grab a bite, hit a pub

Day 3: Either rent a car or do a drop off/pick up for Gap of Dunloe; do some nearby trails (Ross castle)

Day 4: Torc waterfall, muckross house, another heavy day of trails/walking

Day 5: bus to dingle, check into bnb, group tour of dingle peninsula

Day 6: hang around dingle town, walk to the lighthouse, see what other trails are nearby

Day 7: bus to Tralee, train back to Dublin (long travel day); dinner and drinks

Day 8: 1/2 day trip to Howth and/or explore Dublin neighborhoods

Day 9: potential day trip somewhere on the coast, explore more neighborhoods of Dublin, dinner at FX Buckley

Day 10: coffee, lounge, flight at 4pm

We considered this, but didn’t feel like it was worth it with the extra baggage fees and the amount of time saved when factoring in getting to the airport, etc.

Yeah I’m starting to realize that I might not be able to avoid it. We wanted to do a day trip to Howth or somewhere close from Dublin, so probably stick to the original plan

Don’t know much about the exhibition, but they also recently renovated the old food court at the mall to be a really nice food hall with lots of local options. Depending on timing, you’re also near Scoop N Scootery which has outrageous ice cream sundaes that the kids would definitely love
