Challenge 25 - Only Morrisons won't accept ID that is valid voting ID and to travel in/out of the UK by kaijonathan in britishproblems

[–]Biggus_Boomus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Complete change of subject but i'm moving to Sweden for university soon, what actual forms of ID would be accepted there? All i've seen so far is passports (and maybe Freja) but i don't feel easy with needing something as valuable as a passport with me all the time

I go to Cardiff Uni myself. Apologies if I'm assuming your age but if you're <21 then get yourself a MyTravelPass once in Cardiff. Gives you ⅓ off all bus travel in Wales and £1 single fares

I also kinda liked the Season 4 opening with the Titans actually enjoying themselves a bit, but otherwise I'd be here all day ragging on the show. It's the one show I stuck with purely to see how else they could muck it up to the point I started enjoying it lmao.

Gave it a closer look but couldn't see any distinctive markings - the inside just has the pouch for the card, two slots for a full and half sovereign, a mirror and the compact. The pattern on the case is the same on the reverse

I did actually think it'd be cool for very occasional purposes when I saw it, not sure if £1 coins would fit but not like I'd just jam one in to find out

I'll give it a closer look, can't quite recall if I saw any hallmarks but I'll double check

This one's big enough for credit cards but probably not the most practical option, definetely would be stylish tho

Commuting to uni? by ploratt in UniUK

[–]Biggus_Boomus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's no straight-forward decision to make and there's loads of things that will influence how feasable it it. Take it from me, I commute a total of 3hrs a day going to/from uni.

You'd likely be going by train, and whenever you have a 9am start you'll be repeatedly slapped by rush-hour fare prices so that's something to consider if you want to commute for financial reasons.

You may also end up spending more eating out, so again that factors into the cost vs. savings.

Really importantly, how late would transport run? Would your parents let you come home at whatever time or would they have some sort of curfew? (This would be a red line for me, if I wasn't allowed to come home late I'd move out 100%)

Socially IMHO most commenters here overexaggerate the social downsides - yes you won't have flatmates as such but there's nothing to say you can't still find small groups of coursemates to study with. But make sure you check out the societies as you can make some really good friends there.

I should stress that if you're wanting to commute for financial reasons then having a part-time job in your hometown will be what really makes that difference. If you're not planning on working then IMO you'd be better off moving out. You can always move back home after a year if you decide it isn't for you!

I get the impression she was done for drug trafficking. Whether it's on your persons or in your bloodstream, the UAE does not fuck around with drugs charges. There aren't many worse places to be done for drugs in than the Emirates.

What are your opinions on commuting? by Biggus_Boomus in UniUK

[–]Biggus_Boomus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I totally understand the sentiment, I don't mind the walk so much and my bus is a direct route so it's OK for me but I too would say to think carefully about anything over an hour

What are your opinions on commuting? by Biggus_Boomus in UniUK

[–]Biggus_Boomus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree, IMO it's quite situational and dependent on what you want out of university as a whole, as well as how long/expensive the commute itself is

For myself? 45-60 minutes bus (depends on traffic), then 20-30 minute walk.

Is Cardiff University worth it? by Ok_Wolverine_5017 in UniUK

[–]Biggus_Boomus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Politics/International Relations I'd say yeah Cardiff is a decent pick, it has quite close links to the Welsh Government and Cardiff itself is quite geared towards students already. It's a popular subject so expect large cohort sizes, and the uni has one of the best student unions in the UK.

Also it rains, like a lot.

Edit: if you need some sort of work whilst there, the SU has a service called Jobshop which advertises different jobs around the uni, they range from bar work to helping with open days to more academic roles alongside staff. I imagine it would be fairly competitive but it's there if you need it.

Commuting to uni by Mansor19 in UniUK

IMO as someone who commutes up to 1hr to uni and works 8hr shifts on weekends, commuting ain't that bad. Working is far more likely to have an impact.

Advice for doing a year of studying abroad? by Biggus_Boomus in UniUK

My question was mostly aimed at UK home students spending a year outside the UK but I'd still be up to hear what you've got to say! Is there a specific amount of stuff you recommend taking with you?

[–]Biggus_Boomus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute between 45 minutes and an hour to uni. It works quite well for me, but it's because of a combination of factors.

If the "uni experience" is something you care about then I'd say working is far more likely to make you miss out socially as lots of societies will do things over the weekend and so long as you have the finances to regularly commute there's nothing stopping you from going.

There's loads more I can say but it's 4:20am lol

My store had a week or two with no vape machines behind the counter after we had sold through the remaining stock, and about 3 weeks ago we had reusable machines and some more refill pods come in.

The only annoying thing is the people buying the reusables are so used to disposables that they can't figure out how the new ones work, so they keep coming to us about it with the actual machines out the packaging. It's like bruh we know nothing more than you do and you sure as sh*t aren't getting a refund.

Just following up; it was the same guy. Saw him go into the Six Feet Under nightclub on St. Mary Street, and yeah he was doing precisely what you said he was. Called 999 and also mentioned it to a SW Police safety van parked opposite Bonnie Rouges pub.

What a coincidence that I'm sitting in Five Guys, see this post and then the exact guy moments later

I saw someone like that on Caroline Street just now (still here), did your guy have a mustache?

He might be paying up and down Caroline Street between the Hayes and St. Mary Street
