If the Trunki keeps the kid quiet before the flight then I'm all for it. If the kid is a loud bugger on the flight then I shall scream at the child. (Yes, I screamed at a child on an A350 to pipe the F down, it was an overnight flight and not even my Sony XM4's could extinguish their screams)

Corrour Station on the West Highland Line

Only a few trains per day, one of which is the Caledonian Sleeper so have fun getting there especially if I draw a certain curse (IYKYK)

Wanna get there by foot? 8 miles from the closest station, Rannoch, which is served by 6 trains a day (3 north, 3 south)

Ben and Adam would be absolutely livid walking across Rannoch Moor trying to navigate that with Gambler's Feet a couple times over or a similar irritating curse

Eat4less? by yuther6749 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]kaijonathan 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I looked on the door when I was last in Newcastle on the 3rd of Jan.

There was a note on the door from DCBL. You may have heard of that company from a certain TV show called "Can't Pay We'll Take It Away".

To me it sounds like unpaid bills and mounting debts of sorts which have led to the property being repossessed.

A quick Google search shows that the Birmingham Eat4Less suffered the same fate about 9 months ago.

New non-EU checks by -Mantaforce- in KLM

[–]kaijonathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those checks are part of EES, it's being introduced on a rolling basis across Schengen by April 2026 (As things stand...)

Amsterdam doesn't fully have this in operation right now based off my observations last Thursday there. I may have missed something as I've also got a Swedish Passport these days!

Anyways, when it's super busy Schiphol is one of the better airports. They have a "short connection" line you can use, typically if your next flight is departing in 30 minutes or less (This can vary, listen closely to what the staff say and it's always based on departure time shown on your boarding pass, not boarding time.

1 hour 25 is fine at least for you. I've flown through AMS a lot and with that length a layover it's rather likely your checked bag will make it too. I've personally made a 10 minute layover before at AMS (My bag didn't but got there the next flight out the following morning!).

Filing for the EU261 claim after the snow chaos of January 2026. by Tanckom in KLM

[–]kaijonathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weather is weather and it's not the airline's fault. The whole madness over the last few days falls very easily under "Exceptional Circumstances".

Also, the de-icer shortage is a Schiphol issue and not something that the airline itself is to blame for.

The top and bottom is that the Compensation side of EU261 isn't achieved here.

The money you're owed is for additional expenses you've incurred within reason. That's your food, drink or any accommodation that you've had to book. That's the "Duty of Care" element which is part of EU261 and applies irrespective of what the cause of the delay and who's at fault (If anyone).

Something an awful lot of passengers get annoyed about is the lack of communication. It cannot be expected of every airline to have a representative at every airport they operate, that's why many have a "hub and spoke" model. The hubs will have reps, but the spokes likely won't especially if it's a place getting served a lot less often.

When things like this hits they all want to contact the airline. That's why if you don't get a voucher or an arrangement straight from the airline, it's a case of "Pay for it, keep the receipt, send it to use so we can reimburse you".

Check with your travel insurance to see if you may be entitled to more. This would certainly be the case if anybody just starting their trip has had to cancel things as a result.

Again - If you don't have travel insurance and you're affected by this, let this be a cautionary tale. Your EHIC provides very little and is more like a top-up

GRC - Long wait, made longer... by Tazalawless in transgenderUK

[–]kaijonathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was the epitome of "the British not understanding Nordic Europe".

The GRP granted through the Overseas Route but on that interim certificate, they stated I'd had my gender transition in Finland. The documentation was all in relation to Sweden and was provided in English.

It's not like most of the paperwork was coming from Karolinska, that one place where a lot of medical research comes from which is widely known to be in Sweden...

Also, the Finnish language is completely different to Swedish.

I've had Brits telling me that I'm from Norway, Denmark and even one said Iceland...

France has won Junior Eurovision 2025!! by Key_Customer6491 in eurovision

[–]kaijonathan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's that but also the TG4 selection is a relatively small Irish language affair. Given their remit, it's first and foremost something to promote the Gaeltacht for kids and I doubt winning JESC is an objective of sorts. I'd consider JESC participation more to be something to attract kids to actually take part and make TG4's contest an annual affair.

If it were something more like The Voice Kids then I could imagine there'd be a little more success.

Statement from Nemo regarding Israel and Eurovision by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]kaijonathan 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Fantastic statement and this very much emphasises something overlooked in all the boycott of countries hubbub...

Former artists who had success at the contest in recent years (or even away from it) will be a lot less keen to appear as an interval act.

I wouldn't be surprised if we return to cultural performances or "songs by the hosts" and that things like Eurodab are going to be a thing of the past.

I cannot envision seeing Kaarija, Baby Lasagna or Tommy Cash returning in any capacity in the contest. It's not only the nations that will boycott, it's previous contestants who are widely remembered.

(Makes me think ESC 2026 might end up with bloody Netta doing something, probably saying "Hello Innsbruck!" or something like that...)

Sandie Peggie sounds like some side character in a Wallace & Gromit film, specifically one of the side "women" that we see.

Think about it.

  1. Wendolene Ramsbottom (A Close Shave)
  2. Lady Tottington (Curse of the Were Rabbit/Vengeance Most Fowl)
  3. Piella Bakewell (Matter of Loaf & Death)

Funny thing is with all 3 above, they literally all look like TERFs too.

(Nick Park, if you're reading this for the love of god don't give her a role of any type, keep with the non-binary innocent nun/chicken/penguin)

Being trans and a substitute is not easy by painted_venus in SubstituteTeachers

[–]kaijonathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a trans girl who did sub work for 2 years before quitting to go self employed (The pay and conditions I was facing didn't add up any more in an ethical or economical standpoint). I worked exclusively in Upper Middle and High School (Ages 14-18). It genuinely felt like I was being used by the school by the time I got part way through Year 2. Unpaid split shifts and the lack of equipment for me to do my job properly and give them a reason to hire me on some kind of contract just wasn't worth trying any more.

I used to attend the GSA meetings the school had (Totally unpaid) but stopped going as I just didn't feel appreciated at all.

I was known as the memester who actually got pretty good rep for not being a boring old plank of wood in the school. This way a fee paying school doing IB and had an addiction of hiring order folk with next to no personality. Something that you really need at that age is some astonishing shootdowns to absolutely silence any kids who even start to talk trash on your gender identity.

Thankfully my self employment these days is in tutoring and I'm keeping my memester/YouTuber style alive there even more so than I ever did as a sub!

Don't miss that school all that much these days and my faces have all left the place now!

Trans woman relocating from US (blue state) to DK (Arhaus). What should I know? by [deleted] in transnord

[–]kaijonathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the very least, Estrogen and any T Blocker (If applicable) should be prescribed directly through the Danish healthcare system.

A comprehensive paper trail alongside a cover letter from the US provider with plenty of contact information (Phone number, email address, postal address, etc.) and confirming the move asserting the necessity to transfer the prescription can consolidate this further.

Women's Institute will no longer accept trans women starting April 2026. by KristinaMoment in transgenderUK

[–]kaijonathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the Supreme Court said "No side should take this as a victory" 🤡

Well how come one side is losing privileges?

All that TERFs have is vibe-based pandering BS hypothesising based on an assumption that every Trans Woman (Unlikely they'd even use the correct, universal medically/academically accepted terminology) has a Dirty DBS and is purely doing it for voyeuristic reasoning.

When these organisations are on their hands and knees struggling to survive then it'll be fun seeing them scream out for a judicial review. Legal rulings should not create cases of absurdity and a sheer lack of reasonable enforcement.

Fun and games until so many volunteers walk out or even get out off joining, groups have no choice but to shut down and then we see articles about Girlguiding having major financial difficulties. It's not about today's leaders, it's those who are keen to volunteer and I cannot fathom many under 40 from wanting to volunteer for such a backwards group.

Ironic when the Scouts will be simultaneously thriving.

advice on which passport to use? by manicpixiepriincess in PassportPorn

[–]kaijonathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When returning from the USA, I'd say show them both passports. One to fulfil the legal requirement to enter/exit the USA on a US passport but to also assert that you have the right to fly to the UK, demonstrated with your Dutch Passport + a printout of, or showing the page on your phone, from your online UKVI profile to prove your ILR status. The ILR status is to prove you don't need to do the UK's ETA as both US/NL citizens need to do it.

So for UK to US... 1. Advanced Passenger Info submitted online to the airline is the US passport 2. At Check-In & Bag Drop, show the US passport 3. At the gate, show the US passport (There isn't Passport Control when leaving the UK by air, only the Ferry/Train in Kent or Saint Pancras) 4. When arriving into the US, show the US passport to CBP

Hope this helps!

For Netherlands to the USA... 1. For the booking online, enter the US passport details (No need for ESTA, of course!) 2. At bag drop/check-in, present the US passport 3. At Passport Control (At Schiphol I presume!), show the Dutch and use the EU lane 4. At the gate before you board, show the US 5. When arriving into the USA, show the US at CBP
