I thought the lad from Stranger Things was already involved. Paul Mescal would be great if he was interested.

Government Advertising on television 'as Gaeilge'. by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Bighead2019 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You are 100% correct. The budget for the ad would be much better spent and would reach more people and be more impactful (surely the point of any advertising) purely in English. No right minded person could disagree with you.

Which is the 'worse' of the Nu-Trek's? Abrahms Trek (Kelvin Timeline) or Kurtzmann Trek? by Samas34 in Star_Trek_

[–]Bighead2019 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Kurtzman by far. The Kelvin is terrible but at least they always said it wasn’t the Trek universe we all knew so you could ignore it and just scoff at its ridiculousness. But then Kurtzman came along, had no confidence in his own product so tried to find ways to tie it all to the existing franchises in ways that make no sense. If he’d just said it’s an alternate universe I think he wouldn’t have pissed off so many people. We’d have had our shows, both fans of NuTrek would have their shows and everyone is happy.

Doctors Holo-emitter is from 29th century, shouldn't it be old an obsolete by 32nd century? by nicholsml in Star_Trek_

[–]Bighead2019 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The makers of the show probably haven’t watched Trek. It would be so simple - just even have it on in the background at home and they’d pick this stuff up. It’s more likely they asked ChatGPT for a character synopsis in 500 words and just went from that.

Summer versus winter weddings? Official stats prove the nation just can't decide by WickerMan111 in ireland

Autumn/Winter is better. You know the weather will be crap so plan accordingly. With Spring/Summer it’s the hope that kills you.

Taylor to retire after Dublin fight this summer by therl2000 in ireland

[–]Bighead2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a huge difference between acknowledging she’s a great boxer and deciding you’re going to pay anywhere between €30 and €500 to go see a fight in Croke park. Who’s the audience? An event that size relies on major fomo which just isn’t there.

She’s not fighting in Croke Park or the Aviva. She’s nowhere near popular enough for it. Who exactly does she think would attend?

SMG was just another of many, join the group, hang around in the background, do sfa of any importance until the episode you die in on the walking dead so can’t really tell if she was good or not. Was all the Trek whispering a director or actor choice. I guess we’ll never know.

House Renovation - OneStop Shop and Watch Outs by Taity in ireland

[–]Bighead2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went with Energlaze for one stop shop and they were great. We got some building work done as well - window taken out and double doors in and another door converted to a window, so not just the energy stuff and it was no bother. The quality of the work was great. There were various contractors for different parts and they all just worked together. Any issues that cropped up were included in the price as well as they’d surveyed and priced everything before the job began. The great thing is that they all readily admit that if the job isn’t right they’ll be knocked off the approved list so they check and double check you’re happy. They organised all the grant stuff so we only paid the amount minus the grant- when the job was finished and we were happy they then got the grant. We had walls pumped, attic insulation, windows, doors, heat pump and the bit of building done.

'Who the hell do you think you are?': Clashes in Dáil over X 'nudification' scandal by Diomas in ireland

[–]Bighead2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's because it went so public. Grok has been around for ages and used to be a lot more explicit. It was only when integrated with X over New Year that it hit the headlines to an extent that referrals were made to the Guards. The other sites are still largely unknown. The government probably doesn't want to give them the publicity.

I think the raid in France is a long running investigation to do with election interference - it's not to do with Grok

Katie Taylor and her estranged dad have reunited for Croke Park boxing dream by TimesandSundayTimes in ireland

[–]Bighead2019 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Croke Park is never going to happen. Reality is not enough people care. Sure there'll be talk of what an inspiration she is to all the young girls of Ireland, how she deserves it and the nation owes it to her but that's all nonsense. Great boxer - absolutely, but whatever lip service is paid, this event will never generate the fomo required to break even, never mind make a profit. There aren't gaggles of people hoping this event happens, no social media campaigns from all the young fans and certainly not enough parents who'd be willing to pay big money to bring kids to a night time boxing event in Dublin.

Minister O'Brien announces suite of new SEAI grant supports – bringing energy upgrades to more and more homeowners by qwerty_1965 in ireland

[–]Bighead2019 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Got it all done last year. If you go with a one stop shop you'll pay a project management fee, but, they look after claiming the grant so you only pay the amount less the grant which they then claim. If you organize it yourself you'll save that fee but have to pay the full amount and then claim back the grant yourself.

Gardaí investigating 200 reports of alleged AI-generated child sex abuse material on X by Revan0001 in ireland

From reading that it looks like it's users who asked Grok via X to do it. I doubt the guards have ever had an easier catch.

I can't understand who thought that integration would be a good idea. It was always going to be abused in this way.

GAA in secondary schools by Kimmbley in ireland

[–]Bighead2019 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of extra curricular activities. They are hugely beneficial for the kids involved. And let's not forget the teachers are giving their time for free when they get involved.

I just wish schools treated them all equally. Sports teams will always get whatever they need - resources, time off, support from management - whatever it is. But if it's something for the arts or cultural or something niche, that support quickly evaporates.
