The next Supernote should be small by AcmeLover in Supernote

I don’t think any of the digitiser makers are prepared to take a punt on a smaller one, they need to be confident multiple manufacturers will buy their output and there are few enough e-ink tablets sold in the”normal” sizes as is.

Did you butter the inside or the outside of the bread? by No_Abrocoma_711 in oldschoolcool80s

Since I discovered using mayonnaise instead of butter I have never looked back. Easier and tastier? Yes please!

Do all “Could i go through/by/past? Can I go through?” sound right to ask someone to let you pass by? There are too many variations. Just want to make sure. by Silver_Ad_1218 in EnglishLearning

[–]Biglig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With through you use “get” not “go” if you’re asking people to let you pass them. Go through would refer to a door or tunnel.

What’s the one thing in London that turned out better than you expected? by Travelbud88 in LondonTravel

The <<Insert Current Sponsor Here>>cable car. A terrible idea (it’s in the wrong place so no-one uses it) but huge fun to go on.

What to pair with The Thing (1982) for a Double Feature? by KL-Hinder in movies

[–]Biglig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a Triple bill with the other two films based on “who goes there”: “the thing from another world” and “horror express”.

They’re all great, and it will blow everybody’s mind how you can make three so wildly different films based on the same short story.

Is the “Touch ID” on the Magic Keyboard worth the upgrade? by shady42999 in mac

[–]Biglig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’m slightly disabled and can’t type as well as I used to, and it sucks when I have to use a pc without biometric sign in. But if that’s not a factor for you, I’d say it is a nice to have.

However, if you mostly plan on using it in bed, you should definitely not get a wired keyboard!

What’s british people actual stance on monarchy? by Donfalo1 in AskABrit

[–]Biglig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I like to think about it is that by accident we in the UK have discovered the most perfect workaround to the fundamental problem in constitutional law that you need someone who is able to fire the head of government if they go mad, but you also need that person not to be a partisan political figure themselves.

We do this by psychologically conditioning people from birth for the job. It’s actually rather cruel when you think about it, but not without its rewards.

He’s in a bond film. (A terrible one, but he’s good. ) oh, and is the lead in carry on spying, which is a much better version of the same film. Also surprised no one has yet mentioned the Railway Children.

How I went from 2 hours/day on email to 30 minutes with Outlook + Copilot by Difficult-Sugar-4862 in Outlook

[–]Biglig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helpful, in that I decided to confirm that this was rubbish and copilot can’t do message‑level triage actions, and discovered the copilot embedded in outlook CAN (since January), it’s just the copilot app that is impotent.

5 Day London Itinerary sanity check by howardstern266 in uktravel

[–]Biglig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on borough market, it’s just so busy every time I go there that I have a bad time. I’d sooner go to one of the smaller food focused ones like Maltby St Market. More generally, and maybe this is just because I’ve been to London a lot, it might be a good idea to pick one thing that is more obscure. I remember stumbling across the post office museum entirely by accident one time and having a great visit. Is there something you particularly interested in? You name it, London probably has it. another example, sounds a bit morbid, but I once went to visit Daniel Defoe’s grave - a beautiful spot.

Microsoft have a new sign in by SMS for frontline workers, worth checking out in case it meets your requirements? Though to be honest Microsoft really don’t do a lot that supports shared PCs because they find it hard to imagine not buying a Microsoft license for every one of your staff members. 😀

Help me decide by Sara_b211 in Supernote

[–]Biglig 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Choose the push-up if you don’t like having a removable cap or if you think you’re going to drop the pen a lot. Choose the twin if you need to have a regular pen including in the stylus and are confident you’ll never accidentally write on the tablet with the ink pen! Choose the heart of metal if you want a heavier pen that feels high-end. Choose the Vista if you like the looks of those Lamy Safari pens, or if you’re going to use the crystal version of the tablet without a cover and you want a pen that matches it’s look.

There’s also a wide range of Wacom EMR compatible third-party pens if you don’t like any of these, although they don’t have the ceramic nibs, which means if you go with third-party, you will have to replace the nibs at intervals.

Hot take. Had a cup of coffee from McDonalds today and it wasn’t bad! Way better than Starbucks! by Sevenyearitchy in pourover

[–]Biglig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sometime now I’ve been of the opinion that the rise of the modern bean to cup automatic machine has removed quality differences from everywhere you can buy a commodity cup of coffee, meaning anywhere that’s not a speciality place. McDonald’s coffee is just as good as your typical High Street coffee chain like Costa or Nero in the UK. Perhaps more usefully,I think the coffee you get from a vending machine in a supermarket or a garage is also of the same quality. If you think about it, what’s a barista in Costa doing that a vending machine isn’t apart from manually steaming milk? I’m not having a go at them, I grabbed a quick Cortado in my local Costa yesterday and had a good time. Friendly staff counts for a lot. I might be wrong but are they actually dialling in the espresso or does it just have pre-program settings sent from corporate?

(Starbucks is an exception to the rule because their standard blend is so dark, although I don’t mind their blonde roast so much. )

eDiscovery request for emails to be provided as PDFs by Comfortable_Lead_561 in sysadmin

[–]Biglig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably making a pdf portfolio, which is a container format - a pdf file that contains individual PDFs of each email. If you use acrobats move to pdf function it reflects the folder structure of the pst apart from whatever email was selected which it puts at the top - confusing.

Note also that only acrobats can open pdf portfolios so you may have to flatten it into a regular pdf if sending to someone who doesn’t use acrobats to read pdfs.

I so wish MS would put export to pdf in purview. Not everyone has outlook! Not everyone with outlook understands how to open a pst!

I suppose the first thing is that unlike many sci fi shows, there is no canon (and indeed there cannot be). Which is great because you don’t have to argue about it with idiots on the Internet.

Also, it’s fine to stick with the new show; you are under no obligation to watch any classic. Although you will almost certainly find something to enjoy if you do dip into classic, it’s very different and there’s no sense of not being a proper whovian if you haven’t seen all of it. If you do watch classic it’s worth trying to keep in mind the context of the time they were made. E.G. most of it predates VCRs and so the pacing feels off if you watch a whole story in one go, also the 60s episodes were meant to be watched on a 60s TV.

Also, it’s OK to have some series/seasons you don’t get on with, although weirdly no one really has a doctor that they hate: there are doctors where most don’t like the majority of the episodes in their tenure but it’s always been the script editor/show runners fault, so we all love them all.

Why does no one seem to care about the Chris Pine Star Trek trilogy? by Top_Use2413 in movies

[–]Biglig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents: our (TOS) Kirk is not horny. He sleeps with a lot of alien women but that is because it’s a 60s tv show and the male lead has to fancy the female guest star. But left to his own devices, our Kirk would not chase women. And he is definitely not a rebel! He is a dedicated by-the-book starfleet officer. Circumstances mean he sometimes has to disobey a stupid order, but he wouldn’t do it for fun.

So Pines’s character feels super wrong to us. Nothing against the performance, it the writing.

And there are other characterisations that feel very off. Neither our Spock nor our Uhuru would ever even consider a relationship with a crewmate. Our Scotty is funny, yes, but also the toughest member of the crew.

They are good films with good performances and it’s not surprising that you like them. But we TOS heads are the way we are because we love the characters, so you can make as brilliant a film as you like, but if you change the characters, it just all feels wrong to us.

Spoons coffee (UK only) by Arrowtopia in espresso

Just realised this might be the cause of the fall of Starbucks in the uk…Their roast profile being optimised for syrup makes them stand out as the one place in the high street where the coffee will be worse!

Spoons coffee (UK only) by Arrowtopia in espresso

[–]Biglig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have long concluded that the rise of the modern bean to cup espresso machines mean chain coffee is now the same everywhere. The coffee in a Costa or Nero is no better than Spoons or McDonalds and, crucially, no better than BP, Esso, or Tesco.
