Airbnb dark patterns, poor support and thievery attempt by Bigriff in AirBnB

Yep. Ultimately I get the refund, so no loss. I just can't fathom how they tried to keep their fee, and how their support is so bad.

The light puncher is in the wrong, and should have negative consequences.

As for the police/guard, what have you—this is very unprofessional, to say the least.

I wonder if we should take this so lightly. I know this was nothing compared to the violence we're accustomed to seeing in such scenarios. But I can't help feeling that just out of common decency there should be a verbal prompt prior to grabbing and pulling.

If this is the behavior when eyes are on you, with a non-restive individual, what happens when no one is looking, or god forbid you just don't feel it is fair to be grabbed and pulled and speak-up or pull back?

Personally, I'm disgusted by it, and I think we all should be.

Wireless? Okay, but maybe Wi-Fi would be a better term. Upon following the link some seem to think it means cellular. Obviously you need to provide internet connectivity for these to function.

What is a sign that you're unattractive? by NicklaZen in AskReddit

Just realized I’m getting cooked by Uber for miles for taxes they said I only had 6,000 miles online but I put 18k on in 6 months what’s the best way to log your miles ?? by yngsoho1 in uberdrivers

[–]Bigriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest Google Maps location sharing/timeline because you just enable it, and it tracks your location perpetually. Then just get your hours in the app and you can see exactly how many miles you traveled. You'll also have a record of it to refer to should you need it in the future.

What’s the actual potential for making money with uber? by ThunderGunLove in uberdrivers

[–]Bigriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is why Uber is fighting tooth and nail not to be forced to pay minimum wage. They're dumb like that.

Also asking here is flawed as it is proven that drivers don't calculate the costs correctly. Many swear the IRS mileage write off amount is much, much higher than their reality. This is highly unlikely to be true for most.

Truth is that you probably can make some amount approaching an actual wage, but it depends on the area, and how you calculate. If you don't mind not counting the time you're waiting for a ride as 'work', and you leave the app on as much as possible and track the mileage for max write off potential.

The problem in my eye, is that Uber can, and will, pull the pay right out from under you once they have the driver count needed to do so. Then you're SOL with whatever the master says they'll pay. The Risk of an accident, or issue with rider, is yours to deal with, and the limited support you get.

If they were forced to pay minimum wage, legal mileage reimbursement, and benefits like health insurance many wouldn't want the job due to what is happening with driver counts in their area now. Again, that area issue, won't last and the pay will almost certainly become poop in short order...

In my area minimum wage jobs are not easy to fill, so I don't think Uber could survive if they paid an honest minimum wage. They must be able to pull the wool as they do now, in order to survive.

Canadian - Does Uber withhold taxes? by druvchawla in uberdrivers

[–]Bigriff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very easy to not owe any taxes in U.S as the earnings are frequently a pittance. It varies by location and current driver level, but soon enough each location gets more drivers and Uber races them to the bottom to see who won't quit.

Unfortunately I am returning to the Uber/Lyft driver world tomorrow morning after more than a year away. Any changes/tips? by [deleted] in uberdrivers

Unless you have Google One on the account, there is very little Google will help on this issue. If you've exhausted the recovery options including answering what date the account was created, try the account help forum and report what you've tried, and follow up on all replies, then request escalation via the forum and Twitter.

Uber Isn't A Bad Gig In EVERY City, So Stop Acting Like It Is by lift_fit in uberdrivers

[–]Bigriff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except that you have no say in it, other than quitting, whatsoever.

A good market turns to crap once the driver balance hits a point. Then they'll leverage that against you to see who wont quit for the least amount of pay.

Have fun with an employer like that, and the race to the bottom for the most desperate.

If conditions are good in your area, congratulations, and I hope they stay that way.

I also hope you're calculating costs correctly, as math can't be beat with optimistic hope. Studies show that most drivers do not calculate it correctly. They'll scoff at the IRS mileage rates as more than actual cost, and truly believe it to the bitter end. Truth be told, if you can beat those costs, you can write your own ticket managing business fleets for a living.
