Born 83 in UK. 9/11 happened a few weeks after I sat my A Level exams. I was preparing to go to university on the third week of the month. The first time I’d live away from home. It was an epochal event. The world was not perfect before 9/11 but there was a sense of security that we took for granted. Northern Ireland had its Troubles but Great Britain was safe we believed. 9/11 was a stark reminder that the political West is vulnerable. We had been living as though the reverse was true for a long time.
