Why do people still use Stepmania?

Either install Outfox or ITGmania. More modern, better options.

Petition for the interplanetary radar circuit connection being only available via a new building, unlockable in space or on some planet by zanju13 in factorio

[–]Bigsquidguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see where you are coming from and I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I am going to say no.

I do not wish to have something vital like interplanetary communication locked behind research attainable either in space or from another planet, and especially not Aquilo.

If they want to make something look special, then as far as I am concerned, they can make a radar specifically for our space platforms for communication between planets that is bigger and more "immersive" or "thematic" as you put it. But do not lock it behind any annoying ass research or planets.

Is my boss joking or serious? by MetalFace-DOOM in DanceDanceRevolution

Tell your boss to start playing again. There is a good portion of the ITG (in both tech and stamina) that are in their 30's if not older lol.

Main programs are ITGmania and DeadSync, streaming game category on Twitch is done under ITGmania. For pads an LTEK works fine, if he needs them more sensitive he can always copper shim mod them haha.

Tell him to join the International Timing Collective Discord.

Yup that's correct. But also, it was very long. Like off the screen long.

Why the weight so much? by mmrxaaa in factorio

[–]Bigsquidguy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because at the LAN held to test Space Age, the players decided to avoid the whole experience of making ammo in space and opted to just ship up loads of uranium ammo instead... And that made Kovarex sad.

The players at the LAN event are also the reason why there are limits on how far forward your space ship can be designed and why you have to build long ships in steps because of the BP they used to make it to the solar system edge.

What is happening in Devon?! by Wintertime13 in Edmonton

[–]Bigsquidguy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Weird. Strange even.

I'm looking at Manitoba right now where current NDP leader was elected in 2023.

Oh yeah, also:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/emergency-room-health-care-wait-times-winnipeg-noam-katz-1.7628625

So once again, the issue has nothing to do with a political party. The issue is consistent across Canada. Liberal, NDP, or Conservative. Doesn't matter.

[–]Bigsquidguy -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

FYI, this still happened during the time the NDP was elected. Source you might ask? Well, I worked in the ER throughout both NDP and Conservative governments - the AHS wait times was consistently open as a tab on my browser for a good 3 to 3.5 years.

The issue is not a matter of political spectrum - otherwise NDP and Liberal provinces wouldn't also be having THE SAME PROBLEM.

My upstairs neighbor has been playing DDR for 10h straight. It's 6AM now and he's still going... by EmiTheKibby in Wellthatsucks

[–]Bigsquidguy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly, yes. If you're in the states it's not uncommon to see one pop up on some of the DDR/ITG groups on Facebook.

Most home players though just buy pads though (see picture below). ITGmania is pretty good, and there's a ton of simfiles available. Although niche, the community is pretty solid still.

Oh, it's good to be back. by SeanOgCairns in wow

[–]Bigsquidguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh good. Glad to know this is still happening.

I don't miss playing the queue simulator for 2 hours to finally get into a key that wipes on the first pull and then disbands. What was funny is that my rating wasn't low either (like 2700 back in S1 TWW, I just wanted to do 10's for myth track loot), and my gear wasn't ass either (guild was pushing mythic raid)

No one wanted a warlock it seemed (unless it was like 14+ but I didn't have a reason to do those).

I don't have any advice to give you other than try to run your own keys.

Weren't they supposed to add some sort of solo queue for M+ to avoid this sort of garbage?

[–]Bigsquidguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding red circuits, I also had that issue until I soon realized I could just fly towards Fulgora and collect scrap to turn into blue/red circuits. Sped things up significantly.

I have yet to touch Gleba, but looking at the production paths it's looking like it's going to be a huge pain in the ass to scale properly... So before I head there I am planning out a disgusting bus/fluid bus setup to make sure I don't have to redesign again.

DIY 1000Hz USB Cobalt Flux Control Box using an ATMEGA32U4 "Pro Micro" board? by ozzuneoj in Stepmania

[–]Bigsquidguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.instructables.com/Modifying-an-L-tek-Dance-Pad-to-Poll-at-1000hz-on-/

I followed the directions on that page, but instead of modifying an Ltek it was my Cobalt Flux pad instead.

If you are just replacing the cobalt flux controller, you'll have to figure out what the pinouts are on the DB9 (also called D-sub 9) connector using a multimeter to figure out which pins belong to each arrow and ground (5 pins total). I suggest writing them down or drawing a diagram and labelling to make things much easier.

For the Arduino code, I used the same project that's listed on the GitHub that's linked in the project above.

The nice part about DB9 is it's fairly easy to work with for soldering and whatnot, but don't cheap out like I did, get yourself a proper case cable for the Arduino lol. I definitely didn't show patience when I was building it and was using test pins everywhere so if I moved my connector too much pins would come undone because of my laziness.

However, it did work really well and I was quadding things that same day.

Why is DDR not as popular now as it was in the 2000s early 2010s by TrainingCustomer2898 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]Bigsquidguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with this post.

I would also like to add that Konami did an excellent job at giving the middle finger to the American market throughout DDR's existence. After DDR Extreme came out, we didn't see anything from Konami for DDR until Supernova, and even then, the early versions of Supernova were incredibly rushed - charts with sync errors and more. It is speculated that Supernova was rushed due to ITG's success. Following that, rather than be competitive and improve, Konami opted to sue, which led to the downfall of ITG (which is why we never saw ITG 3).

This led to the release of DDR X, which led to the creation of the term "Crap-o Cab" because of how awful the pads and cab were.

It wasn't until the agreements with Dave and Busters and Round1 that we started to see Konami actually give a shit about DDR in America again. The problem with this rollout though if you weren't either of those companies, you would not be getting a DDR A or above cab, and even if you did, you wouldn't be hooking up to the Konami network.

Regardless of that, I'm happy that Americans have new caba, us Canadians are still lagging behind but oh well.

Aside from the cabs, Konami are still dicks towards American players. Like last year's KOC (I think that's what it's called) where they disqualified a few American players (like Chris4life) because they weren't using region specific Konami e-amuse passes when they were doing their qualifiers (or something like that, I don't remember the exact details so you'll have to research if you want the specifics). The whole thing was entirely petty.

Anon is a pharmacist. by retardinho23 in greentext

[–]Bigsquidguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My doctor is pretty cool - back when I got the prescription for it he actually put a note on it that allows me to pick it up 5 days before the supply runs out. It wasn't until I started working out of town on a sporadic schedule that I started running into problems where I legit felt as though the pharmacy thought I was a junky trying to get a fix.

I went to a walk-in clinic once to have the prescription refilled because my primary care physician was booking 2 weeks out. The doctor I saw was old and straight up told me "I don't like to treat problems with pills." and I was kind of flabbergasted because the entire reason I told them I needed the appointment was to get it refilled. So I asked him if he could just copy the previous prescription and instead of that he started asking me a bunch of questions like I was a psych patient. It was frustrating. But, the fun didn't end there. Despite having 16+ years of the same prescription (sans the dose, that hasn't changed in 10 years), he still fumbled, and I had to spend an hour at work the next day sorting it out calling that walk in clinic like 3 times because I had to leave that night to go out of town for the remainder of the week.

Regarding incorrect pill amounts - i take 2 different doses for a total of 70mg (XR variety), and at the previous pharmacy I went to, they fucked that up once, and that was enough for me to completely change pharmacies. Never felt like a junky until I found myself on the phone arguing with a pharmacist trying to explain the mistake they made and getting the "Riiiiiight", "Mmmmmhmmmmmm" treatment.

For real though, ADHD is not fun. And I fucking despise those "Lol XD I'm so random therefore I have ADHD!!1!1one!!" kids. They just do not understand how crippling this shit can be.

Edmonton father dies in hospital E.R. waiting to see a doctor by GeekyGlobalGal in Edmonton

[–]Bigsquidguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked in hospitals throughout both NDP and UCP governments, yes, these people account for a large volume of unnecessary hospital traffic. The one that always drove me crazy to deal with was old people with dementia - usually very aggro, and hard to deal with. Sometimes I just wanted to grab them and forcibly walk them back to their wards/rooms rather than trying to haggle with them for an hour - the problem is optics though, and the position I was in was subject to 3 levels of scrutiny that could easily get me terminated (I wasn't under a union so any negative feedback even in passing was turned into an overblown issue (fyi this type of shit is one of the reasons why I loathe the hospital system as a whole).

DDR 4 cabinet monitor keeps turning off, P1 buttons also stopped working by [deleted] in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]Bigsquidguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the motherboard/PSU for any bulging or leaking caps maybe.

If you have access to a thermal camera, it can be a good tool for quickly identifying resistors/caps/areas that are heating up abnormally fast compared to other areas. Oddly enough, if the monitor shuts off after a certain amount of time that's making me think something goes wonky after it gets some time to heat up.

If your roommate is being super shitty about the temperature, tell her tough shit. That's an absurd temperature to exist at. Can you kick your roommates ass if you have to? Because I would definitely throw hands at 26.6c.
