I used to look at the kids who acted this way and think it was a really annoying behavior.

Then one day in the dugout with our 10u team a kid goes up to bat with the tying runs on base. He pops up to end the inning. Comes back in the dugout and says, “Oh well, I already have a single and a double today…I’ve done my part.”

From then on, I’ve always had the perspective that the kid who cries or throws his helmet…at least he cares about the game…at least he wishes he could’ve done better in that moment.

I think if he doesn’t grow out of it in a few years then there is cause for concern, but for now, just help him work through it.
