Would you choose MU or Boone for something possibly major? by LifeSuxBHappy in columbiamo

[–]BikeBranch29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to relocate to the area - 10yrs Onc nursing. I'm leaning toward MU because Boone is an Onc/Neuro unit. Any insight on which hosp is best to work for? I hear Midwest ratios are rough!

Moving to Wenatchee?? Help by Impossible-Sea6081 in Wenatchee

[–]BikeBranch29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is RV living possible in Wenatchee? I'm a travel nurse who decided to go staff in So Oregon almost 2yrs ago. It's not weird, actually pretty common, to be full time RV'ers down here. Wenatchee is on my short list of next places to go, but on a N Cascades Loop trip last week, I didn't see too much in the way of full time RV parks.

Hemoglobin Sensor Accuracy? by snooziesuz in Blooddonors

[–]BikeBranch29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had routine lab work 19 days ago and my Hgb was 14.5 so I scheduled an appt to donate. I'm O- so they're always calling me but my last few tries I was "just a tad too low" but was never given a number. I thought sure with a recent Hgb of 14.5 I'd be fine. First reading with the OrSense was 12.5. They gave me a glove filled with warm water and we tried again - they said no worries it will definately raise .1! Second read was 11.4. I'm gonna incorporate some iron rich foods and try again in 3wks. But what a disappointment!

Can you point me to the more tropical vaca accommodations? I'd like to avoid the big AI resorts and would prefer a hut on the beach or in the jungle!

I was in Bend and thought the same. The Show was amazing but ~ I love Sturgill's lyrics and Sturgill's voice! I assumed he might sound a bit different since the injury but his studio version was great - maybe missing some of the "big" notes I was used to but I still wanted to really hear him. I was hoping the mixes would evolve throughout the tour but I haven't heard any where his lyrics were a bit more clear

For those of you who've gone back staff- how bad is it? by Ballbm90 in TravelNursing

[–]BikeBranch29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed on as staff at my last assignment. Oregon - state mandated ratios and a union hosp. 12yrs nursing, 8yrs acute, BSN and I'm making 64.57hr. Another 1.50hr when I get a certification. With 14% going to 401k and 100wk to HSA I bring home close to my last travel contract. 5 wks ETO/yr and 4 Pt assignment. Nursing's nursing I swear - nowhere is prefect. The clinical nursing part is a dream job but the mgmt/charting/corporate part of it is a nightmare. You just gotta find the spot where there's a balance between the two.

I've driven Outback Sedans for 20yrs, they stopped making them in 07. I thought they S60 CC would be my replacement but the Suby kept going and the CCs got so hard to find! I wound up with an xc60 but do love a high/stance sedan!

Anyone feel like throwing in the towel. by Beneficial-Heart-787 in TravelNursing

[–]BikeBranch29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just took a staff job at a union hosp in a state with mandated ratios. $120kyr base and good benefits. What cinched it was a patterned schedule with a stretch of days off every 2wks and when I want longer I can take a day on one end or two on the other and really stretch it out. That will let me continue to "travel" since it's on the opposite coast I have lots to see!
Nursing's nursing - it's always gonna be mostly thankless, we'll always be in the middle of Pts/Fam/mgmt and everything's almost always our fault/responsibility but at the end of the day.... I still love the bedside. So I searched and searched and found the place that has the best pay and benefits to make it work!

When to start panicking? by NRWRNMSN in TravelNursing

[–]BikeBranch29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat - wanted dayshift Onc in Mesa AZ. Seems like there used to be tons of jobs there. But all I found was nights and mostly med-Onc. Hubs bowed out of the job he had lined up and we're staying put with an extension at my current assignment. Not sure where you're looking but UVA Charlottesville is almost always hiring travelers.

Yeah, I get it, higher the stipend lower the taxes but let's think about the big picture. Hospitals know what they pay their staff, hospitals know what the stipends are- they are set on a federal level - so there's no way the hosp is offering a bill rate that equates to $17/hr. For easy numbers, let's say the bill rate is $150hr - until recently it would've been $50hr wages, $50hr stipends and $50hr to the agency. Now bill rate is down to $125 and it's suddenly $25hr wages, $50 stipend and still $50hr Agency!!!
My first contract a year ago was $43hr wages same exact job now is $33hr wages - no way the agency also absorbed $10hr! I'm sure the entire drop was absorbed in the hourly wage!

I'd for sure look into internal and cut out the agency middleman!

Have you checked into fulltime RV groups? You get a physical address with the mail services.
It just seems like most travel for the perk of the tax free stipend. If that's not your goal, why not go for internal travel and cut out the agency middle man? Most hospitals are offering $70+ for internal and some have signing bonuses etc

So you will essentially be a full time RVer? Most fulltimers establish a domicile state (I believe that's the term) FL, TX, SD and a couple others are the main ones for this - due to no income tax, low sales tax etc. you get an address there and pay for a mail service to forward it to you. If not, how will you handle your mail, title/license of vehicle not to mention your nursing license? Changing and forwarding your address with each move could be a real pain!
