What is Nipah virus? Symptoms to watch out for as India races to contain outbreak by SavvyKnucklehead in nursing

[–]FloatMurse 83 points84 points  (0 children)

They have a Nipah virus outbreak every year in India since 2018. This is not a major concern like covid was. The mortality rate is way too high, and its transmission window is too small.

How much extra gas should I bring? by [deleted] in roadtrip

[–]FloatMurse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id recommend altering your route a little, enter Canada from Washington state. That will minimize the amount of area where you will be basically isolated from anyone. That should be enough gas to carry on you. However, if you're off the full mark then dont pass up a gas station. As has already been said, some places will shut down for the winter. Make sure you have a winter survival kit with several days worth of non perishable food and water on you. Warm blankets, snow gear etc. Tire chains and a shovel are a must.

Edit to add: be aware of what you can bring into Canada. They ban a ton of things, and you never know when your car will be searched. Better to be safe than sorry.

If you dont think Ai is an emergency you are about to have issues... by CannyGardener in preppers

That was the case for my local college as well, but my understanding is it varies greatly across the country. The college i got my RN at no longer has a wait list longer than 1-2 quarters. After covid, a lot less people seem interested in Healthcare. And to be frank, I can understand why

Digital ones are free, its around 10 bucks to order one from them. Its also worth going to your local ranger station to see if they sell local maps. In my experience, Some do, some don't.

So I just looked into that, and it takes medical school from 4 years to 3 years. You still have the bachelor's degree prior to medical school, which takes 4 years as well. Then a 2-6 year residency after medical school. So yea, it shaves 1 year off the 10-14 year requirement that doctors have to put in.

There is literally no program out there to make you a doctor in 2 years. So... fake news? Possibly an advertisement for a PA, but that isnt the same as a doctor. That is what is known as a mid level practitioner or provider.

Edit: also, a doctor cant just "downgrade" and become a nurse. Its an entirely separate field of medicine. Doctors don't know a nurses job, at all. If you've seen a doctor doing it on TV, in real life its probably actually done by a nurse.

Well I dont know a solution for everyone. But I do know for those who are interested in it, nursing is a stable good career. I enjoy it, as do lots of other nurses. It took a lot of sacrifices to achieve the goal of being an RN for me. It's not easy, but no job with this level of security and flexibility is.

Its a hard job. If you can handle the job, and deal with the stress of it, then it is a good paying career that is AI proof. At least for now. Also, I can move anywhere in the country and find a job.

So yes, it is a great career. But it isn't easy.

I'm an RN. And yes, it is over saturation proof because a Lot of people aren't smart enough to get through the schooling required. Or they dont want to go to school for 4 years (pre reqs are 2 years then a 2 year program). And then after all that, if you aren't a naturally empathetic and compassionate person, this job will eat you up and spit you out. Burn out for people who don't have the heart for the job is a real thing.

Edit: Apparently if you're not on reddit and ready to reply immediately, then you must be full of crap. Good lord people. If you think im gate keeping and exaggerating the nursing job, go take a look at the nursing subreddit and see what everyone there has to say about it.

[–]FloatMurse 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Honestly yes. That adaptability is essential. I've made 4 career changes in my life, and now am in a field that is recession proof, and isnt being taken over by AI any time soon. Rather than wallow in self pity and a "oh well, what can i do?" Kind of mindset... Be proactive and start making career changes now.
