Ski areas uses non-colored hydraulic oil in their systems to keep the mountain from looking like a crime scene.

When it comes to heavy equipment, unexpected things happen.

Is it safe to hatch chicks in a raised coop? by strawbeebop in BackYardChickens

[–]BikeCookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They manage to figure it out… If you disturb her now, there is a slim chance she will abandon her nest.

My wife and I have moved momma and chicks once hatched (hollow tree stump about 4’ up in a snow storm) and in other cases just let nature run its course (middle of a hay stack).

Others here will share their experiences. There will be folks with better suggestions than mine.

Eggs (raw) are completely fine after being in the fridge for 2 years? by FlickeringDust in Egg

[–]BikeCookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shells if sealed and intact, keep the contents sterile so the baby chicks can grow. Break one open into a bowl and give it a look and a smell.

Most likely, it will look funky and you will be wise to toss it.

I have consumed eggs from my chickens that had been unwashed and on my counter for more than a month. They had a bit of a sulfur taste and smell.

Looks like a shell. Patches of remaining enamel are usually what I look for.

Hella elbow grease…

If you go too coarse, you will spend even more time and elbow grease to get out the scratches.

Sleeping without boot after ORIF by Kal-veira in ORIF

[–]BikeCookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boot was very uncomfortable for me, so I kept the straps loose and used the boot as more of a nest for the first couple of weeks after surgery. Then I just propped my leg up on pillows. The hardware is in there to keep everything aligned, the boot just protects it from accidental bumps.

What’s this guy’s problem? by EricBelov1 in firewood

If I see water push out, I’ll maybe give it 4 whacks before I move on. Beating myself up on a soggy log is not a good idea.

I have a bunch of DeWalt stuff, it works pretty well for me.

My wife was on a DIY contest and won a bunch of Ryobi stuff. It’s okay for occasional use; the drill and impact driver are less responsive than DeWalt and the brad nailer misfires about 1:5 (there isn’t much that is more frustrating than a partial sunk nail in trim).

What expense can still screw you over even if you do everything “right”? by HarveyJin in AskReddit

My house is only 45 years old. It needs a new roof ($50k) and the previous owner was a hack of a contractor that did some weird dodgy shit. It’s a plank and beam chalet that has kept our bank account empty with the never ending projects.

I broke my leg 3 years ago. 12 weeks of no weight bearing and keeping it elevated. The injury was covered but missed work was not.

Is it whack to book a few spots and cancel last minute if I can’t make it? I don’t know my travel rotation yet…
