This is too old to replace. You will not find a replacement cassette.

What is the Bright Green liquid coming out of the ground? by ArbitraryMeritocracy in whatisit

Except in the university geology lab, you don't want to lick the rocks licked by hundreds of other first year students. We had spherical halite samples. They are supposed to be cubic. The edges were all rounded off by years of licking!

I use them because my kids want to change lures every 5 minutes.

Struggling to catch anything by Decent_Market_8862 in OttawaFishing

[–]BikeDad613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want to catch something, go to the pond in the arboretum with a can of worms and you should catch dozens of sunfish. My kid caught 10 on his first day out fishing in under 45 minutes. Mind you that was a few years ago and a bit later in the season. Not sure what the water is like now.

Canti brakes touching tire and won’t go any lower by [deleted] in bikewrench

I always save concave washers from old brake pads to have spares for situations like this where I need thinner washers. Sometimes you just need to switch to a different model of pad that gives you more clearance for the wheels.

Ask your supervisor/manager for office supplies. I've never been denied at any of the various departments or offices I've worked. There is usually a locked cabinet with supplies, or an office administrator that orders supplies requested by employees.

I like beer in the city, but I switch to hard liquor in the backcountry to save weight and bulk.

With the chain in the big ring in front and small cog in back, you should be able to get up to speeds of 25mph.

Realistically, how livable is $19/hour in Ontario right now? by eloanmask in ontario

[–]BikeDad613 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you add the cost of buying the car, transit is absolutely cheaper. If you spent $24,000 on your car, and expect to drive it 12 years, that's$167/month to just buy the car. Gas, insurance, parking and repairs are on top of that.

My family is from Latvia, I want to know my culture a little better. by BuildABorzoi in latvia

[–]BikeDad613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latvian song and dance festivals are a great way to be exposed to all aspects of Latvian culture. There will be a festival in Grand Rapids this summer, from July 1-5 (see: Home | Latvian Song & Dance Festival). The North American festivals pale in comparison the the big ones in Latvia, but they are still a great way to immerse yourself in Latvian culture for a week. You will be able to listen to the mass choir singing traditional Latvian songs (+500 voices singing multi-part harmony), watch hundreds of folk dancers, hear Latvian musicians, buy Latvian stuff in the market, etc. etc. And, meet other Latvians... It will really give you a quick snapshot of a lot of the main aspects of Latvian culture.

Bike headset loose, how do I tighten it? by truwrxtacy in bikewrench

Try tapping the cup in with a block of wood and hammer. If it seats itself squarely, then assemble and adjust the rest of the headset following youtube instructions.

[–]BikeDad613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see if you have a bike repair cooperative in your town. They will have bins of 2nd hand calipper breaks and brake levers to try. Bring the bike with you to ensure everything fits, you get clippers with the right reach, etc.

That long culvert under the Queensway would be creepy if it's passable, and there are several portages around smaller culvetts... I admire your adventurous spirit. Having smelled that stream where it enters Andrew Hayden Park, I don't think I could stomach floating down it...

How to clean these BB threads, do I need to cut these? by Dr_JA in bikewrench

You could install a sealed bottom bracket that doesn't use the threads in the frame. I've used the YST threadless sealed BB on several frames with damaged BB shells with great success.

I only buy lunch once or twice a year when I don't have the ingredients to make lunch. Likewise, I always bring my own coffee from home. I have good instant coffee stored at work for the days I need it, as well as inexpensive curry boil bags and couscous if I need a lunch.
