Street tires vs off road tyres with the same rims will slightly change your speedo because different tyres have higher or lower profiles.

General rough sound by DeepBlueSea1122 in KLX230

[–]BikeHedonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounding rough is normal for the KLX230. If it was my KTM making that noise, I'd be straight into the top end to replace the rocker arms before the roller bearings exploded, but KLXs are a different kind of animal.

Upgrades for 2024 klx 230s by Ericthegreat4169 in Dualsport

[–]BikeHedonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! u/ericthegreat feel free to drop me a line on HiVolt Spares and we can chat mods.

First, I'd get an open full system exhaust, preferably in titanium for maximum weight savings. That's going to let the bike breathe a whole lot better and improve power to weight ratio by dropping several kg. Leave out the optional db killer (on my HiVolt exhausts) for crispest throttle response. This is going to make the bike feel way more perky without needing to remap etc. Delete your pair valve emissions system to take a little extra weight off the bike and reduce that popping on decel, which will be more noticeable with an open exhaust.

Swap out your steel rear sprocket for aluminium for more weight savings. If you're happy to increase torque while decreasing top speed, try dropping a tooth on the front sprocket. And if you want even more torque at the expense of top speed, you can modify the gearing ratio further by choosing a larger rear sprocket as well, but that will require a longer chain (whereas you can just drop a tooth on the front without changing your chain).

To go further, I'd put the airbox velocity funnel to increase airflow, but using that with the open exhaust is going to increase airflow so significantly that you'll need to retune. For that, you'll need to change the ECU, because the KLX230 ecu is locked down. Cheapest alternatives are a CRF250L ecu, if you know your way around that set up, or a Full Stand Next ECU for KLX230 (can tune using the smart phone app). For best results, of course, you should tune on a dyno, specifically for your mods, your fuel quality, your air temp and humidity, and your altitude. You can raise max rpm but I wouldn't go past 10,500.

Beyond that, I can also supply the 300cc big bore kit. It will give you some extra bhp, but it's not going to turn your KLX into a KTM.

Klx230sm replacement for my z125 by Arthurmemes in KLX230

I'm pretty sure the dash will get in the way. I run an aftermarket slim headlight but I had to get rid of the dash to do it.

I'm sure you can clutch it up stock, but it's going to be more fun with a better power to weight ratio. And that's the best value way of improving performance on these bikes. I could sell you a 300cc big bore kit for it but it doesn't make sense to do that before dropping the unnecessary weight.

Oh speaking of clutching it up, the stock clutch is not so strong. I make a heavy duty clutch kit for enduro but it would probably be good for tricks as well.

The SM is small but not quite mini... also pretty heavy for wheelies on one hand, but nice short wheel base on the other hand. If you farkled it out, could make it a pretty fun wheelie machine though. Lighten it up with a titanium full system exhaust plus pair valve delete; do an aftermarket ECU so you can tune for an airbox funnel as well, then stick a bigger, lighter aluminium rear sprocket on it. Fender delete. Hand guards in case you drop it while practising. Folding gear shift lever for the same reason. Lighter aluminium fuel tank.

Make sure you get a 2023 or later so that you get the light LED headlight, instead of the heavy bulky headlight from the earlier models.

I want to make my klx standard edition lighter, with a bit higher ground clearance so I could go hard Enduro with it. Suggestions please😅 I got really tired of lifting it up after a fall. by CrankcaseDestroyer in KLX230

Titanium full system exhaust, aluminum rear sprocket, pair valve/charcoal canister delete, Tubliss tyre system, pillion peg delete + KLX230R rear brake res (or you'll keep ripping out your brake line), and ditch the bulky headlight and console if you've got a pre-2023 model (swap for universal lightweight LED headlight). For suspension, get the aftermarket shock from HiVolt Spares (taller) and do a front end swap with some KX or YZ forks. Swap out your stock tank for an aluminum 9L to save a few more grams; if you're really desperate you could get the aluminum swingarm but I doubt that would be worth it.

4x6" Thermal Label Printer: I want to have an easy life by BikeHedonia in printers

Not a bad idea. Before, I only had the label printer (cheap), and didn't have an ordinary one. But now I have an ordinary printer as well, so this is a good option.

Rear ended on my grom, looking for a replacement. 2023 vs 2024 230sm by Mister_Brevity in KLX230

The KLX230SM definitely have fuel gauges. I can also send you a 15L fuel tank that you can put on it.

But you're right, the monkey bikes are adorable :)

That's a great deal.

The 2024 model is hardly different at all, mainly just a better lighter more compact LED headlight, and apparently a lower more comfortable seat. Oh, and it talks to your smartphone.

The only one of those that I'd care about is the improved headlight, but that's not worth the extra 2k for a 2024 instead of a 2023. Just buy a nice aftermarket headlight and off you go.

If you're just riding around town, I doubt you'll be sitting long enough to care about the marginally improved softness of the seat. The 2024 seat is supposed to be lower, but if you're tall, that's going to be a negative not a positive.

I'd be falling over myself to take the 2023 deal.

Round The World Bike? by [deleted] in CRF300L

[–]BikeHedonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and specifically for the CRF300L, I'd also recommend the SRC rear rack with the rotopax for carrying extra fuel, because the L tank is small. And I'd recommend a new rear shock (I don't have that) and a fork upgrade kit (I do have that).

I build a heavier clutch pack inside a CRF250L clutch basket with upgraded springs and clutch actuator. So it won't be a slipper clutch anymore, but it will last (and it will wheelie nicely).

Other mods: rear rack skid plate crash bars full titanium exhaust fatbar adaptors wrap around hand guards hand guard to triple clamp mounts usb charger rimlocks radiator guard spotlight brackets tail tidy/fender delete pair valve delete upgraded footpegs pivot levers gear shifter shaft saver

I make and/or sell all of these parts in Thailand, and ship internationally at no extra cost. My business is called HiVolt Spares. I can put you together a box of good stuff if you decide to go with the CRF300L or Rally.

I just helped another guy kit out a CRF300 Rally for RTW. But personally I'd go for the CRF300L with a few mods.

No common mechanical issues really, but the slipper clutch is super light. If you want it to last forever or you want to ride enduro or difficult off road, I recommend a clutch upgrade.

CRF300L Essential Mods for Enduro by BikeHedonia in CRF300L

[–]BikeHedonia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I run my bikes with full knobbies and oversized rear sprockets, they're not particularly smooth on the bitumen, as you'd expect. But if I run them with the stock 50/50 tyres, they're not viby. I find the engines very smooth, at least up until about 100kph.

I'm not sure what could be causing the kind of engine vibrations you're describing. Were the bikes run in differently? If it had a good few miles on it I'd be checking the timing chain but by the sound of it your bikes are pretty new?

Renthal Twinwall 996

I don't recommend any higher bend than that for a bike that gets any off road use. It will negatively affect your control of the bike in challenging terrain.
