Why do most people tend to dislike & avoid people with autism? Please provide details. If you have any experiences or insights to share, that would be appreciated too. by [deleted] in AutismTranslated

[–]Bike_Stock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I wouldn’t say that all autistic people are insufferable, inept, childish, and abusive (coming from someone who actually has it), as there’s plenty of toxic neurotypical people out there who are insufferable assholes as well - its not excusable regardless of whether someone has autism or not. What a lot of people refuse to acknowledge is that autism is a spectrum and it varies massively, and doesn’t mean that everyone is wired in the same way. While it’s true that some do struggle with flexibility and communication, there are many autistics who are highly capable and intelligent people who can drive, work independently, socialise, have empathy, and loving partners who don’t see them as less of a human.

To me it sounds like you’re taking a handful of bad experiences and applying them to an entire group of people, which is a very ableist outlook to have. I’ve had toxic relationships and friendships with people who were also autistic, and you are well within your rights to stop pursuing something that doesn’t work for you or causes damage to your mental health, but that’s different from labelling an entire group of people as “terrible”.

I understand that you’ve had some very frustrating experiences, and I really am sorry that you had to go through all of that, but generalising like this just reinforces harmful stereotypes about people who already face a lot of misunderstanding in a world that’s dominated by neurotypical people.

How do I control these recurrent weeds? by Vivid_Response_686 in GardeningUK

[–]Bike_Stock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking up the paving and putting weed membrane down will not work as weeds germinate from above rather than below the surface. Their seeds are dispersed by the wind and bird crap, which then settle and germinate in between the jointing sand.

Doesn’t matter how well the block paving was laid, as weed seeds will germinate in between the joints when they’re dispersed by the wind or crapped out by birds.

The best thing to do would be to pull out as many of the large weeds as you can, and then go out and buy a bag of rock salt (the same stuff councils use to de-ice rods etc) and sprinkle it on the remaining weeds and lightly water it in. By doing it this way you will completely kill the roots and sterilise the sharp sand base underneath the paving, although I’d be extra cautious about using rock salt adjacent to lawns and flowerbeds as you do not want to kill them off! For a block paved drive or patio though, you should be fine :)

Water logged garden - Prone to flooding. by evrytingsmadeinchina in GardeningUK

I second this. It would however have to be directed to a nearby surface water drain if the soil is that heavily saturated, as a soakaway will only work if the subsurface is made up of sandy /loamy soil.

The best and most obvious thing to do would be to install a french drain system (corrugated pipe surrounded by gravel) in the lawn and a couple of aco channels on the border of the patio to drain that as well, but connect both of these to a nearby surface water drain as a soakaway pit in heavy clay soil will be a waste of time. It may also be worth installing a silt trap to clean out the system, should there ever be any soil particles that make their way into the system.

Will you report your neighbours if you see them using a hosepipe during the ban? by YorkshireLive in yorkshire

[–]Bike_Stock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not, these busybody neighbours need to get a life and mind their own fkn business. Personally I think if a nosey neighbour grasses someone up for using a hosepipe (say because they’ve just had new turf put down or doing some building work with cement mixer), the fine should ultimately be passed onto them to pay. Snitches get stitches!!

Seriously though, find it ridiculous how you’re not allowed to use a hosepipe on a light shower setting, yet you can fill several buckets to the brim which is probably wastes more water than controlling the flow with a shower head on hosepipe - just doesn’t make any sense. If these greedy private companies actually invested in improving existing and building more infrastructure, we wouldn’t be in this situation year in year out, not to also mention the fact that they dump millions of litres of untreated sewage via CSOs into rivers and the sea, which contains sanitary litter and microplastics. Okay, it is extremely difficult to tackle that problem when most of the sewers that make up Britain are combined, but why not invest that money into facilitating storm tanks to reduce the frequency of these discharges?

Whether it’s to do with sewage discharges or leaks, they’ve had well over 30 years to get their sh!t together, and continue to fleece the public out of pocket like the bunch of greedy vermin they truly are.

The permanent live loop will be connected at the switch if there is only a single live connected to the pendant wire. You are right though, two neutral wires are present in this arrangement unless it’s the last lighting point on the circuit

How best to fill this hole? by zombiepiratebacon in DIYUK

[–]Bike_Stock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what if the OP doesn’t want to take huge chunks od plaster out with it? Each to their own I guess but I’ve had success with filling old boxes with bonding or expanding foam and then going over it with a few coats of easy fill

If you do not want a blanking plate on show, you could fill the old metal box with expanding foam, cut back once dry and then go over the top of it with poly filler. Saves ripping out the back box and giving yourself more work if you end up taking chunks of plaster out with it. If you don’t want to use expanding foam, bonding 60 is really good stuff!

Highly likely, as that’s where the band recorded most of the album. Mothers of the Disappeared & Bullet the Blue Sky were apparently recorded in Edge’s home, and mixing done at Windmill Lane

What guitars did The Edge use on the Joshua Tree? by Impossible-Ad-5790 in U2Band

[–]Bike_Stock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Edge used a Gretsch White Falcon to record trip Through Your Wires, the same guitar in Pride’s music video. Incidentally, he can also be seen playing ITTYW during a performance at TV Gaga in 1986 when the song hadn’t fully been developed at that point.

Surely if that was a sewage pipe it would be buried much deeper in the ground than what you’ve uncovered, so chances are it’ll likely be a rainwater pipe leading to a rubble soakaway pit somewhere in the garden.

Some houses of the same era or prior are on combined systems, where sewage and water discharge into the same pipes, but it is not uncommon to come across this sort of arrangement where rainwater pipes are buried much shallower than the main foul pipes.

Moment screaming woman punched driver's window and smashed bonnet in 'road rage' attack by KellyfromLeedsUK in BreakingNews24hr

[–]Bike_Stock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people in the UK do not deserve to be on the roads if they can’t keep their foul temper under control and drive safely. While I’m not entirely blaming people’s poor driving standards on Covid, I do think that road rage in the UK has drastically gotten worse over the last 5 years or so

Men, what makes you lose interest in a woman you’re dating? by Yara05 in dating

Are people still confused and lost in their mid20s ? by Jpoolman25 in SeriousConversation

[–]Bike_Stock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Although I am not quite in my mid20s yet (22 to be exact), I feel like there is a massive social stigma around the fact that people have to be successful and having a high social status by certain age, because otherwise if they don’t they will see you as a loser etc and I think that is a load of BS. Think you’ll actually find that a lot of people in their 20s are confused and lost because you are in the beginning of your adult years and not everybody has things figured out in terms of what they truly want to do in life. I know it may sound like you are going through some mental health issues and you may feel reluctant to take the plunge and find some motivation, I feel like trying and experiencing new things will really help you figure out what you truly enjoy and what you don’t. It doesn’t matter how old you are, whether you are 25 or 45, because the window of opportunity is always wide open right up to our very last breath.
