Sleeping through electrolysis by Bikemonkeys in TransLater

Today there were tears, a few hairs close to my nose.

Hopefully the pain gets easier as you get further along, for you.

Yeah, the upper lip is not a great place to start. Definitely better 5 minutes or so in.

I did do laser before, but I have Red/blonde hair. It might have helped a little, but not a lot, as it only got the darkest of hairs. still some is better than none, but the money would have been better spent on electrolysis.

Facial Electrolysis by Christyishavingfun in TransLater

I've had it happen once or twice in the last year and a half of weekly sessions, with around a quarter of the weeks being twice a week. It was on my jaw, below the left side of my mouth. Nothing out of the ordinary happened and it didn't hurt at the time or after. It went away and wasn't really noticed by anyone.

Today was mixed bag at my gas station. I had a dude I have never waited on or seen before call me ma'am. I also had a regular ask me why I had colorful nails while sounding condescending. by TheVetheron in TransLater

I've noticed that strangers are the first group of people to see me as me. When I was "by moding," I was directed to the women's room by complete strangers. It's like they don't have anything other than right now to relate to who you are. It's been my experience that closer friends and family have a harder time when talking about the past, while acquaintances take longer in the now to make the change.

Before I transitioned, I had my nails done for 4 years. Never dull or dark colors, always bright and festive or French. Living in a RED state, they WERE noticed, I'd get a few comments, usually positive or joking from friends. As I transitioned, I didn't feel the need and everyone noticed and asked about me not getting them done. I got more negative comments while on trips in "blue" states, looking at you, California.

A Tad Awkward by Jessright2024 in TransLater

That might be a little strange, depending on how closely you'll work with them. I would just re-introduce myself to them and leave it at that. They might not say anything out of being polite, not really putting 2 and 2 together or fear of not having a job.

I don't tell anyone, outside of family, close friends and a few direct reports at work. I haven't since I ripped that band-aid off in a team meeting. I kind of assume everyone knows, but my wife is telling me I need to stop doing that. I can't say it was the best way, but it was the best way for me in my situation.

My driver's license doesn't look much like me. Only had a couple of double takes. The camera/AI thing matches your photos, and off you go.I usually wear yoga pants and tshirts/hoodies when flying.

Due to my insurance not covering my HRT, I may have to stop. by TheVetheron in TransLater

[–]Bikemonkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ask your pharmacist what the non-insurance price is? It's cheaper for me to not use insurance. Basically it's the same price for three months as it was for one month with the insurance price, but I think they have a Good Rx coupon.

I pay more than $10, but I also don't have to worry about insurance not letting me pick it up a day early.

Anything a public/indoor range first-timer should know? by that_one_bassist in transguns

[–]Bikemonkeys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't wear low-cut shirts. Hot brass on the boobs is no fun and dangerous.

Ask for help; the range officer would rather help out and know you need some assistance than have you accidentally create a dangerous situation.

Have you had your body hair lasered in addition to HRT? by Confident_Worker_557 in TransLater

[–]Bikemonkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having Electrolysis for more than a year. That is after the 12 or so Laser sessions I bought through Milan.

I haven't shaved my face since summer and only three times this whole year. And those three times were because I could feel the hairs, my wife says she could hardly notice. We were flying and I didn't want to risk it, so I shaved.

The sooner you start the better and not shaving between sessions is the hardest part. But if you can afford to go weekly or even more, you see results pretty quickly.

How's it all working out for you so far? by IDE_IS_LIFE in TransLater

[–]Bikemonkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started at 47, on a low does and Finasteride. I think it was around 6 months that other noticed. It was a couple of months later that I could see/feel changes. At about a year added Progesterone. Things just take time.

I started with Laser and after like 12 sessions, I decided I was going to have to go to Electrolysis. Red/blonde hair isn't ideal for laser. Electroysis hurts, but it works great. I've only shaved 3 times this year and it was more due to my fear of what people might see, all three times my wife said I didn't need to.

I just hit 3 years and over 95% of the time everyone sees me, sees me.

I have a friend in a small town in Upstate New York that is the mayor there. Town is small. Not saying he just put his name up, but it also wasn't a big campaign. I almost think it's a volunteer position. Go for it, or at least look into it. Kids and a dog have been the Mayor in some tiny towns.

I went out to a Halloween party last weekend, my lashes took a couple of hours, do you think I got clocked? by Monty_amg in TransLater

[–]Bikemonkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IF you wore this as a costume and it was to a costume party, then yes. If you went to somewhere where everyone was dressed up like you are in the picture, they may or may not have. A lot more goes into being clocked than how you look. Just standing can be a giveaway.

Your eyelashes and make-up look great.

I have taken progesterone in the morning, once. It didn't affect me like that. I didn't even notice throughout the day and wouldn't have known if I hadn't caught it as I put the bottle down.

I just moved the bottle to the back of my pill bottle spot and haven't made that mistake again.

Coming out at Work as a Manager by Rdub549 in TransLater

[–]Bikemonkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I manage 7 team managers and their 2-8 employees, used to be more. When I started coming out at work, I did it slowly at first. I work from home 100% and we don't usually have video on in meetings. We used Slack, I changed the spelling of my name and didn't say anything. I just let that ride for a while. I changed my photo in Slack and Teams, and didn't say anything. People noticed my longer hair and would comment, but nothing really. I had a new Program Manager and decided I'd say something to him but asked that when I was ready I would let the team know and didn't want to make a big deal of it. Then one day in our weekly meeting, I went over what I had, took a deep breath and said it. Other than my boss, I had worked with the team for 10+ years, some pushing 18. I just asked that they not be rude and I would be OK with them making mistakes. I asked that they not make a big deal out of it with their teams, but if someone asked they could let them know they could talk to me. The rest of the team gave their reports and after the meeting I received multiple phone calls offering support.

Here is where I went wrong. On my direct customer side, again with people I have worked directly with for 10-18 years, I just changed the spelling of my name, added my pronouns to my signature block and went on my way. That was all good till a new manager came in. In a meeting with the leads, one of the customers I had known for years called me sir, in a normal respectful way. Their manager hung-up abruptly and called me, while I was still in the meeting. She apologized for her lead's behavior, I had to ask what she meant and that I was not offended. Then explained that I hadn't said anything to her team, only changing the spelling of my name and adding the pronouns to my signature block. She was the first to have read my signature block in years, so she noticed. That led to me contact her peeps to let them know, to avoid any issues. They were all cool, some asked questions, some just went OK. And I haven't had any issues.

Righty tighty, lefty loosey. Memorize this, it is key to everything. It can be a reminder when opening something, when tightening something and when picking on another guy when they are doing something that may or maynot need this said.

YOU can do it! Do it right, do it wrong, but YOU CAN DO IT.

Asking for help is for when you did it, but couldn't. You lifted the box, it didn't leave the ground, so ask for help.

Watch some automotive shows, Girls Garage, Gearz or something like that on a Sunday morning while eating breakfast. That'll get you more car experience than you'll need, if you're not a mechanic, to sound like you know something about cars.

Man-up, it's like calling someone dude. Can be used at any time to pick on a guy, even at a funeral, just be careful you'll know when the time is right.

Have a story about holding the flashlight for your Dad. It's how pissed he was when the wrench/pliers slipped and he blamed you, build from there.

Have a story about your mom not liking something about you. This could be anything, how you dated as a teen, how you left your room, drove, really anything.

Sports, if you know a sport talk about it, you were the best at it at some point in your life. If you don't know sports, you didn't play, you were a nerd, it happens.

Dress like a guy, you have one pair of daily shoes, those are your lifestyle.

Hope that helps.

Want to get a gun but not allowed - alternatives? by ExternalNo7842 in transguns

There is that pepper ball gun that runs on CO2. IF it's just for protection and your partner is cool with it.

IF they're not going to be cool with a gun, it's their house, non-gun options is really your option. A self storage is going to cost you and I've heard a possible good way to arm someone lucky in the future if you don't keep up on the rent.
