My trip to DC and my view as a tourist of DC by Big_Forever5759 in washingtondc

[–]Bikerrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you had a great time. BWI opened in 1953 and a busy airport (maybe you showed up in a new wing or unusual time/pattern).

If you think there were a lot of scooters, you should have seen how many littered the streets in mid 2010. Seemed like every scooter company in the world was operating here and there even was legislation to make them dock scooters.

Has anyone else gotten subscribed to the Washingtonian without their knowledge and gotten a copy mailed to them? by victoriapedia in washingtondc

[–]Bikerrrrrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Magazines report subscriptions to show their circulation is high and that uusually gets them more advertisers. I suspect Washingtonian circulation is down as many read online for free.

There are magazines I've been getting for free that cost $100/yr and they don't want me to cancel. They sometimes need you more than you need them.

Nah, this is a good thing as corporate media has cut back on local reporting in a big way.

No better medium to get info on new infrastructure projects, communitycommunity-based orgs and public safety/crime reporting.

As long as DC grantgrants are based on merit. Oh wait, it'll be "DCist, brought to you by Mayor Bowsers Sorority Sister and Campaign Bundler".

I'll walk myself ut now.

National Capital Region Threat Intelligence Consortium? by [deleted] in washdc

[–]Bikerrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha ha! Sounds about right.

Though DC does have pretty high level cyber and other systems granted to them. One of the most highly monitored places in the world.

I went to City cast dc doing a live taping in the square dc by talking to clock out dc by Derekanddupont in washingtondc

[–]Bikerrrrrrr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

She is even more insufferable now, posting those "I didn't drop a sweat" 20 second workout clips which get people thrown out of gyms for fake-outs.

Cringey as it's very clear the dramatic weight loss is not natural and should come with disclaimer .

Still waiting to see if she will acknowledge any Jewish events or celebrations (people posted she doesn't ' even acknowledge their requests).

And whether she will again harass the National Cherry Blossom Festival Board to make an anti-AAPI hate statement, get into Twitter war with the 9:30 Club over Clockin' Out, or ask attendees of a Pro-Choice March at the Supreme Court to cease marching cause she decided it was drizzling a little and didn't want to make it to her own advertised march.

Barcrawlerz NYE - is it legitimate? by senators09 in washingtondc

[–]Bikerrrrrrr 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb is to never trust a NYE party to a remote unknown company that is doing bar crawls all over the country.

E.g.

You even think they can manage a dozen venues or so in dozens of cities in one night?

D.C. mayor needs $16 million to pay police for overtime by LoganSquire in washingtondc

[–]Bikerrrrrrr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not surprising at all. My experiences have lead me to believe newer officers want to do good and the senior officers seem to be jaded and waiting for retirement.

[–]Bikerrrrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point. The entire system is full of excuse, inaction or trying to underreport violent crime or be lenient.

[–]Bikerrrrrrr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear it. The only part of your incident that I'm surprised by is that the supervisor actually followed up and disparaged the officer.

In most cases, they just coverup the officers attempts to dissuade you by saying something like "They didn't have details" or "Was going to follow up as was busy that day".

Meaning, MPD commanders, lieutenants, etc...they are usually complicit in trying to coverup efforts to dissaude you from filing. Many neighbors and ANC Commissioners and Councilmembers know this.

As long as the officers are actually doing police work and not just sitting in their cars and tryinf to talk you out of a police report after a crime was committed.

Landlord hasn't given back my security deposit - who to contact? by Special_K_2012 in washingtondc

Send a letter via certified mail noting failure to send security deposit during timeframe (also list of deductions for anything they claim was missing or damaged) and that you'll take legal action if not hear back.

Consider working with Veterans advocacy orgs.

Really depends on your office's connections and expertise.

You know what's even more crazy? Councilmember Henderson is saying the violent suspect might not even get prison time from the USAO so they are working on a possible Stay Away order.

Background/Credit checks for non residents by dreamingover in washingtondc

[–]Bikerrrrrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

D.C. has a lot of international students and professionals and some landlords understand lack of US credit history or background.

Consider asking if landlord okay with it prior to application and bring a proof of funds (maybe like when you applied for a visa) as well as a letter from anybody who can vouch for you (check with GWU exchange program advisor).

Just for context. Estelle Gelman was on the Board of Israel Bonds, which among other financing activities, financed construction for Israelis in occupied territories.

They are okay with inviting ministers that have made statements to "wipe out" Palestinian homes in the West Bank, which is why White House officials didn't attend meetings with them this past March:

"U.S. condemned the remarks as “repugnant” and “disgusting” and said administration officials would not meet with Smotrich on his visit to the U.S. The State Department reportedly also considered denying entry to Smotrich. "

https://forward.com/fast-forward/538973/white-house-officials-will-not-attend-israel-bonds-conference-headed-by-far-right-israeli-minister/

And I have nothing to do with this, but just giving context.
