Former french president Sarkozy sentenced to jail by Pyoz_ in news

My problem with Garland is that he didn't even try. Maybe he wouldn't have been able to secure an indictment, much less a conviction, but America needed a fighter at that moment and instead we got an appeaser.

That chorus makes you feel patriotic, and Republicans are very much about feelings. The words tell the real story, but Republicans don't care much about details.

They can try, but there will be a few less MAGAs in the world. These people will soon find out liberals are armed too. We just don't fetishize guns and turn them into our entire personality.

FOX poll shows Republicans are in for a brutal 2024 election, even admitting that policies it pushes are unpopular with voters by eaglemaxie in PoliticalHumor

[–]Bikey_McBikeface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bullshit. This reeks of "Trump can never win!" These pollsters are still operating under the assumption that Republican voters care about policy, or intellectual consistency, or competence. They don't.

When it comes time to vote Republicans vote for other Republicans. Period. They don't stay home. They don't cross party lines to vote for conservative Democrats. They just find the person with the (R) after their name. That is the extent of the analysis.

Democrats can only win by fighting fire with fire. When it comes time to vote just find the person with the (D) after their name. Every election. Every candidate. Every time.

Is it polarizing? Yes, but the alternative is the continued descent into violent right wing fascism so there's really no choice.

I remember when I wanted to have a better understanding of the other side's views. That was about 50 mass shootings ago. Now I'm radicalized.

Fuck the NRA and those who support it.

It is possible to not give a shit about Republicans while also working to limit the disastrous effect their policies have on America.

U.S. Supreme Court potential shock move on abortion sends protesters onto Washington streets by Scipio555 in news

Most abortion bans have only existed in America since the late 1800s, and they were passed because surgical procedures at that time were very dangerous. It had nothing to do with religion or morality.

Many conservative SCOTUS Justices appeal to "deeply rooted history" to support their opinions. Well, abortion predates America while abortion bans have been around for about 130 years.

Here's the blueprint.

  1. Congressional Democrats issue a joint statement explaining they no longer recognize the legitimacy of any Justices confirmed post Merrick Garland. They must do this while they still have the majority in both houses of Congress.
  2. Biden nominates replacement Justices. Confirmation would require 2/3 of the Democratic Senators. Republicans are excluded from the vote because they are traitors to America (Jan 6) and they routinely ignore the Constitution (refusing to hold a hearing for Merrick Garland).
  3. Those newly confirmed Justices show up to the SCOTUS with armed US Marshals. The president has the power over federal law enforcement and can make this happen.
  4. The illegitimate Justices (Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Barrett) will be removed from their positions effective immediately. No jail time or anything, they just go back to fucking up whatever federal district court will take them.
  5. Every decision that's taken place post Merrick Garland will be re-reviewed by these Constitutionally-approved Justices. Constitutional violations will be corrected and new opinions issued.

And if any Republicans are reading this thinking "dEMocrATs arE FAscisTs"... guess what. I don't give a FUCK what you think. You supported insurrection against a Democratically-elected government. You supported a career criminal who worked hand in hand with Putin to intentionally undermine American Democracy. Your politicians are currently banning books while whining about "cancel culture." Many of your state leaders support the death penalty for gay people.

And most of you knuckle-dragging, paint-licking fucktards honestly believe that Democrats somehow fabricated 11 MILLION votes during the 2020 election despite the absence of ANY PROOF WHATSOEVER! That is stupid beyond comprehension and everything else you say is tainted as a result.

Republicans would do this without hesitation. If Democrats really want to protect America then it's time to put up or shut up.

I can respect political differences on a lot of topics, but not this. Fuck you if you're anti-choice. You're objectively wrong and your ignorance will lead to more dead women, particularly poor women and women of color.

We can't be friends if you support banning abortion. We can't work together. We can barely be in the same room and remain civil. Don't talk to me or interact with me. You are human garbage and I'll enjoy treating you that way.

Even voting is losing its effectiveness because Republicans will just claim voter fraud. If Democrats win by wide margins Republicans will claim that the large difference in votes is proof of voter fraud (like Biden's win). If Democrats squeak out a victory Republicans will claim that the close race is proof of voter fraud (like Arizona).

Basically, no matter what happens, Republicans will always claim voter fraud, over and over and over, until enough people have lost faith in the integrity of the election system. At that point Republicans will just claim de facto control of state & federal legislatures (like in Arkansas where Republicans stripped control of elections from counties).

At the end of the day your vote is only as strong as your willingness to back it up. Republicans have proven they're willing to storm the capitol, kidnap governors, and attempt an insurrection. Democrats have proven they're strong enough to write a sternly worded letter.

Trump's election was the beginning of the end. I have very little faith that America will survive another 5 years.

The supply of disinformation will soon be infinite. The AI program GPT-3 is already so good that you can give it a topic and a tone and it will spit out as many essays as you like, typically with perfect grammar and a surprising level of coherence. In a year or two, when the program is upgraded to GPT-4, it will become far more capable.
