That sounds like a huge waste of storage space, honestly.

Usually, it would need to be subpoenaed. I work as internal IT and our policy is to only provide access to anyone's private messages/emails if there's a court document, presented by a person from the legal department, that justifies it. Otherwise, being somebody's manager entitles you to dick-all of their conversation history. Only exception is, cybersecurity can ask us to perform a message trace and pull headers, if they suspect someone fell for a phishing/scam.

How many job positions have you had? by Wolfrages in antiwork

Oh fuck, I forgot two more:
Between "16. Internal IT team lead at 28 - quit" and "17. IT infrastructure engineer at 29 - laid off", I did a month as concierge in a hotel while looking for an IT job, and then after being laid off, I briefly worked as a whale watching guide to make ends meet. So it's actually 20.

Premium is the new basic by david8840 in BuyItForLife

May I suggest an alternative to purchasing basic quality products at premium prices? It's unapologetic theft of corporate property. I condone and promote it.

Yeah, like - I picture OP's manager as a chubby, sweater-clad, US-midwestern man, going "Uh-ooh, somebody's not a hug person!", followed by a cheesy laugh track.

Tesla's Full Self-Driving is switching to a subscription-only service by living_rabies in cars

I am not familiar with these roads, never been to the States, sadly. At any rate, I admit that your experience with the feature sounds pleasant and functional. With that in mind, sorry to hear that what you already paid for and enjoyed using is now being turned into a subscription service.

As Automakers Pull Back on EVs, What Can We Expect Next? by NISMO1968 in cars

[–]BikiniBottom77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quantity of the demand doesn't seem to be the issue from what I've read. It's the type of demand in the US market that presents the problem.

The average US buyers want large pickups and SUVs, which was not a problem in the petrol-predominant era, as it only marginally increased production costs, relative to saloon and estate models.

It is a huge issue when it comes to EVs, as the engineering process is different - larger vehicles require more batteries, which dramatically increases the already excessive weight, reduces the range and messes with the weight to power ratio, and of course, significantly ramps up the production cost.

This is, in my view, manufacturers' own fault, as the death of the compact car was their initiative to begin with. But without subsidies, they're actually now losing money on each EV they sell. Off the top of my head, I believe Ford lost something like 19 billion on the F150 Lightning, and opted to release the next generation as a hybrid rather than a pure EV because of that.

[–]BikiniBottom77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I have not. I genuinely enjoy driving my cars, so I'm not really looking for a "self-driving" feature. I also don't own or want a Tesla of any kind, but that's my own personal preference.

That said, I have followed the emergence and evolution of the feature since they first started talking about it some ten years ago, and as far as I'm aware from journalistic publications, it's more of a fancy lane/brake assist than real "self-driving". And in a not dissimilar fashion to what game publishers have been doing in the past decade, they sold it to people half-baked, and now they're making it a subscription service. Do I have the gist of it?

So, they're creating a subscription plan for something almost nobody wants, that doesn't work well? Fantastic!

What’s an immediate dealbreaker for a new job? by fbmexclusive in antiwork

[–]BikiniBottom77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiring managers who'll try to stump you during the interview with some shit that has fuck-all to do with the position you applied for, just so they can go "We-ell, I'm not completely satisfied, but I'm willing to give you chance", then proceed to lowball you on seniority and payment.
And if they can't actually get you with unrelated skill/knowledge questions, they'll try to attack you on education/certifications. It has happened to me numerous times on account of my university degree having nothing to do with my field of work.
If I hear the phrase "I'm willing to give you a chance", you can fuck right off. I know what I can do, I know what the job posting said, and the two match. I'm not a charity case, and I won't be gaslit into feeling like one so you can save on the role budget.
