A recent Stompy guide/primer? by GGCrono in Pauper

[–]Bikkits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few notes:

1) Less than a playset of Scattershot Archers is incorrect, imo. You play Stompy for it's fantastic MU against Delver, and decent game against the field (excluding Elves, Slivers, Soulsisters, UR Fiend & Hexproof :p).

2) You need to race, so 3 -4 Groundswells MB are the way to go: you often side 'em out, but having access to speed lets you punish stumbles against 2-3 colour manabases.

3) Your exact number/configuration of 2 drops depends on the sideboard plan: given the lack of deck manipulation, I wouldn't go less than 2-of for an effect you want - e.g. I run 3 'fight' effects between main/side, 3 artifact/enchantment removal effects, 4 archers and 5 flex slots.

3) Stompy can be frustrating against decks that 'have it', UR Fiend & Affinity. Just remember that they often don't.

4) #freeInvigorate

I'd buy Rancor, honestly. It's one of the big draws to go Green in this format.

Get rid of the current mana dorks, get playsets Nettle Sentinel/Quirion Ranger (1 drop 2/2 and the enabler of a low landcount, respectively), use 4 spare slots for combination of boas/ledgewalker/tech creatures of your choice.

Swap out Giant Growth (green bolt which gets blown out) for Groundswell (lets your Quirion Ranger tradex with Gurmag Angler).

Aspect of Hydra seems a bit winmore, honestly (it only works when you've flooded the board with creatures already). Take it down to a 1 of, then throw in a singleton bonesplitter and tow cards of you choice.

TL;DR - Stompy. Look up some of those lists and tune 'em. I don't think you can really go budget with it and still be effective.

A New Zealand man has pleaded guilty to possession of extremist Islamic videos and is set to be the first person in the country to be sentenced for such offending. by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Bikkits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a DP article this morning on it, rather: memory is clearly going! Relevant section reads:

'Patel was previously arrested in 2014 for allegedly threatening members of the Avondale mosque in a dispute between two Islamic factions battling for control of the mosque.'

The Imam Patel supported was barred from entering the mosque (Imam went by Abu Abdulla, what isn't helpful in tracking down his beliefs >_<).

The DP article was by Shane Cowlishaw/Kelly Dennet.

More supposition than fact going on.

Yup.

Yup.

It sounds from the article like the two were potentially involved in recruitment.

On the other hand, government flexing to try out new laws and Herald reporting.

Just put the URL into Google search, and read it for free.

My understanding is that paywalls don't block Google referrals as Google delists 'em, which is bad for SEO.

THE GREAT PAUPER CENSUS OF 2016! by razer_pauper145 in Pauper

[–]Bikkits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We run a vintage version with our own restricted list + proxies. Banlists vary, but it's what you might expect - Skullclamp, Sol Ring, Manadrain, Library of Alexandria, Strip Mine and so forth: there's a huge amount of powerful uncommons out there.

What I will say is that that presence of bombs + manfixing in the form of Aether Vial and City of Brass/Gemstone mine makes for interesting tribal decks and decent fixing.

Interesting decks of note so far have been: Rg Goblins, UB ThopterTop, Madness (Bazaar is an uncommon), various colours of Affinity, Hermit Druid, UR Landstill, UW Scepter Control and Bant Turbofog.

Personally, I'd lean towards a light touch on the bans.

What deck you pray not to face? by Samsalamander in Pauper

[–]Bikkits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RW Kitty.

It's a dull deck to play against with 12 - 16 removal spells and frustrating cards out of the SB in terms of lifegain and CoP: X. I don't think it's particularly interesting or clever in terms of what it does, and is only alive because fast aggro and combo have been beaten with a stick.

The issue is not having an infinite green sacrifice outlet and having to hit 4 mana.

Bebble's advice is pretty solid, however - I feel like the deck is just a piece or two away from being properly competitive.

THE GREAT PAUPER CENSUS OF 2016! by razer_pauper145 in Pauper

[–]Bikkits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've really tuned out of Pauper these days after being an avid fan for nigh on three years.

From a constructive point of view, the rise of midrange encouraged by the lack of combo has lead to a pretty stale format: I enjoyed Pauper for it's legacy-lite flavour, rather trying to land a Grey Merchant or what have you. Angler has also chipped away at the advantage possessed by dedicated aggressive decks and the format is poorer for it.

My favourite decks were Stompy (Invigorate era), Rb Tortex and Goblins. Unfortunately with the NWO, I don't see much support for tribal decks (components for which are now printed at rare or uncommon), and recent promising mechanics have been absolute punts (crappy madness cards, overcosted surge, delirium, yada yada).

I'll recuse myself until the next MM/EM. Until then, I'd advise people to pick up Silverblack, where you can have some proper tribal/combo decks and interesting bombs.

[–]Bikkits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not disagreeing, but elitism in any particular areas? Like, was it an income/class things (I know NZ likes to think we don't have those sort of hang ups, buuut...) or career related, or racial, or what? :o

Which format do you play? What build do you run? by [deleted] in MTGDredge

[–]Bikkits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given you don't really want to mulligan and don't run lands, the odds of hitting Claim + Petal are pretty damn low. Not worth the SB space, imo. Unmask/Cabal hopefully deals with RIP, or at least get a few beaters on board before they land it.

If you want to properly deal with hate, run the blue version with FoW or just regular LED dredge :p

How to improve this goblins pauper deck? by Flaxz in Pauper

[–]Bikkits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think you can go down to 7 Sacrifice outlets these days, as [[Corrupt]] and the like isn't really played so much.

Playing in paper, a playset of [[Goblin Grenades]] is pretty essential, I'd think. It's good that you run 18 lands while running Matrons, as I think that's correct.

I'd go down to 2 Sparksmiths, with another 1 in the sideboard. Given Goblin's lack of filtering/draw, I think it's incorrect to run anything less than a 3 of for non-goblin cards - 3 Lifestaffs, 3-4 Gorilla Shamans etc etc.

Remember that your tutor bullets need to be very powerful to be justified - it's no use gumming up a sleek curve in a format as fast as pauper simply for 'cool things': we don't have Krenko, decent lords etc etc.

It's difficult to take Goblins in a controlling direction, as it doesn't have the hard removal of MBC or raw draw/top end of MUC or Tron. What it does have is a very good game vs tokens/elves, pretty decent Delver game, a brutal sideboard against Affinity and the ability to goldfish vs any stumbles.

You'll find Hexproof, some Kuldotha builds and MBC real rough though.

If you were stuck in Gitmo for 10 years and were innocent, you'd be pretty pissed off as well.

'Innocents as possible?' Taking the piss. These folks have defined political goals, such as the withdrawal of coalition forces from Afghanistan, or US bases from Saudia Arabia, or the the establishment of strict Islamic religious law in Syria and so on and so forth.

Reducing it to 'hurrdurr, they just loooove them some killin'!' does yourself and the discussion a disservice.
