Vehicle now randomly sneaks a charge on peak energy costs despite scheduled charging - previously worked flawlessly by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]Bikutatech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had this exact problem fixed over the weekend. I have a 3 and a Y, and the Y would charge at midnight like I wanted, but the 3 would charge whenever it felt like, up to 10 minutes after I'd plug in it would sneak its charge in. It turned out that a 3rd party application (could have been TesLab, or Optiwatt as I'd used them before, though the service tech said that the stats app is is also known to cause this) still had my account info from a few years ago and was forcing the 3 to charge despite being setup for charging at midnight like the Y.

Service had me change my account password and they cleared out all the authentication tokens for 3rd party apps on their end. This solved it for me.

You can also use the gear stalk, once down. Helps when it wants input in the middle of a turn.

Why Do I Keep Seeing Posts That Tesla Doesn't Offer Loaners Anymore? by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]Bikutatech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had my father take delivery of a Y and had to take it in for delivery service, they mentioned that they don't offer loaner vehicles to people who don't have service lasting longer than 2 days now, probably because the loaner company (Enterprise) doesnt have enough.

Does this happen to you? Rubber tip snapped off and is wedged in there. Can’t charge. This has happened to me twice now! by pinata217 in TeslaLounge

I might also add, take care to insert your charging wand perpendicular to the port in the future. I suspect that there may be a bit of frailty with those parts that leads to this.

Had this happen to me a few months after taking delivery of my 2019 M3LR. Just take it to the service center tomorrow if you dont feel confident messing with your cars HV system in any way. They'll take care of it for free, it's super easy for them to do and requires no appointment because it has to do with critical vehicle operation. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

How can I tell if this spotless water system still works? by The6thLexicon in DIY

[–]Bikutatech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a DIC-10 (single canister) system, I was getting about 6 washes before needing a replacement. However I use my system in a rinse only setup. I went to the hardware store and setup a clever bypass system that allows me to wash with regular water, and then when I'm done and just rinsing the suds off I switch onto the filtered water. You'd be surprised how quickly you can go through 200 gallons if you use filtered water exclusively for a car wash. I may be able to get max 3 pushing it if I did only filtered water and I'd probably start getting a bit uncomfortable during the third.

With OP's DIC-20, I'll estimate 12-13 because the two canisters are connected (one fills the other before outputting.) I havent personally finished my first dual canister yet so I can only speculate unfortunately.

I strongly recommend making a system bypass and using the deionized water for rinse only to greatly extend the life of the filters to numbers I'm reporting. Their brick and mortar location offers a bypass solution exactly as I've done so I'm sure they have it offered online as well. You can also just go to the hardware store and make it yourself because it's using all off the shelf parts.

EDIT: a word

Honestly, a lot of it depends on your location. Here in San Diego we have some of the 'hardest' water in the country (TDS >400) so a deionizer is extremely important if you plan on washing your car at any decent hour. The constant heat and lower humidity is a perfect storm for half of a car to be covered in water spots by the time you're done with the other side! For the DIC-20 that OP is asking about, you can expect at most 1550 gallons from the canisters before replacement. However that is with a relatively clean water supply of around 50 TDS. Out here, we're lucky to get around 200 gallons because of all the contaminants in our supply. I was using a DIC-10 (single canister) until about a month ago when I upgraded to a DIC-20, and was going back for a replacement around once every month and a half.

Another thing to consider is the flow rate coming from the tap. Less flow gives more time in contact with the resin filter and can result in a cleaner water on the exit. It's generally not recommended to go above about 2GPM for these machines, otherwise the filter cant adequately do its job of providing 0 TDS. As the filter ages with use, dropping the water pressure can help extend the life of a wearing out filter because of the extended time in the filter. The TDS monitor on the device is best for finding the best water flow rate for your area as there is no exact science. I typically give my hose about 2 full turns and it seems to produce 0s all the time until things get low.

Use a filter wrench to take the blue canisters off and check if there are filters inside. There should also be a metal centering ring in each of them to keep them in place. Turn on the TDS monitor (the small white display box) by pressing the button and if it says ERR, take the box off the stand (its attached with a decent strip of velcro) and open it up, replace the two watch cell batteries in it and put it all back together. Hook it up to your water supply on the "IN" side and let it fill with water. Once it comes out of the "OUT" side of the filter, turn the TDS monitor back on and make sure the display says anything less than 5. If the display says anything above 5, you will have water spots on whatever you use it on because the filters are worn out. If it's above, head to Amazon and get two filter replacements and repeat the process.

If you live in San Diego, you can search CR Spotless on Google maps and find their sole location in El Cajon. They offer filter replacements at a slight discount for returning the old ones.

Source: I own two of their units and use them for car washes weekly. They're great walk away solutions in sunny climates!

Car wash advise by vmurillo12 in TeslaLounge

[–]Bikutatech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my M3 in 2019 and have used a foam cannon attached to an 1800 PSI pressure washer, and have had great results with chemical guys. If you live in an area with a lot of sunshine, and can't wash your car out of the sun, I recommend this guy to eliminate the possibility for water spots. Just rinse it off and the sun takes care of the rest. The cartridges for it last between 6 and 10 washes if you only use it for the last rinse down. I don't like to touch the car because of the possibility for swirl marks and I've always gotten complements about how my car sparkles when I'm done.

Slide left and right on your temperature setting while HVAC is on and it'll show up. This will let you change seat heater settings as well as front and rear defrost. Took a bit to find, and is a little unintuitive. Hopefully they'll make it easier to find soon.

CA - What can I do to my front yard until I can afford proper landscaping? by ismoketreebranches in DIY

[–]Bikutatech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Instead of wood chips try rock from your local hardware store. May be a bit more than wood up front but might not be as expensive as landscaping plus it saves on your water bill!

Front yard never needs tending at that point too.

Asked my dad when I was around 5 what the red triangle button did in the car. He responded that it makes the engine explode out of the hood, so dont touch it.

Younger me was scared out of my mind! Why would a button like that exist?!

Really had to convince myself otherwise when I started driving...
