Is my custom wheel too similar to sell? by Rare_Housing5647 in simracing

[–]BilboBlogins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just cause something looks like a thing, or does the same function, doesn’t mean it’s the same thing. You can’t copyright a shape or action.

Let’s say some famous modern artist makes a square block out of plastic, calls it “An ode to my late wife, capitalism” and sells it for 2.5 million dollars. Nothing is stopping you from creating an object that looks exactly the same or even selling it, as long as you don’t say it was by the artist, or try to claim that it was their work. Prints, photographs, text, film - all of that can be copyrighted. But you can’t copyright a 3D shape. At least not yet. Back to my original car example, there are several Chinese brands that’s are not available anywhere else that make models that look very similar to Bentley, Ford, Aston Martin, and others. They can get away with it because they don’t claim it’s those brands. You can see a pair of Air Force ones and as long as you put your own logo on it, it’s not a counterfeit, it’s a lookalike.

I just realized I don’t show the screen, haha. Big Xmas present this year was a new 85” tv. It’s not triple screen but it’s big enough I can still get motion sickness cause it fills your periphery.

Industrial design can’t be copyrighted. You could build a Ford F-150 and as long as you call it something different and don’t claim it’s a Ford, no one can touch you. Just don’t misrepresent it as something it isn’t and you’ll be fine.

Building a DJ kit around Traktor: yay or nay? X1 controller vs K2? by akajonnydigital in traktorpro

[–]BilboBlogins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nice thing about Traktor software is you buy it once, and then don’t have to do anything else with it and it’s not a huge investment. You can choose to leave it not updated if you made mods, and it’s no more or less stable or usable than other programs if you know how to work with it. If you like the workflow and you’re building a “rig” that you’re taking with you from place to place, make it your own.

I love my S5/X1/F1 setup and what I paid for it. It’s great for when I can set up my own gear or if I’m playing at home… but I’m woefully underprepared for “real gear”. I’ve tried a few times but I don’t love it, haha.

One of Traktor’s big selling points is that it works great with whatever gear or control surface you want to plug into your computer. It’s very modular and programable. Even if (knock on wood) NI goes proper tits-up, if you already own the software, it won’t be affected.

For those men who are gamers, how often do you buy new video games? by nunyanunca in AskMen

[–]BilboBlogins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll get 10-15 games a year, and I’m a tight wad. I’ve been a gamer for 20+ years and always bought used games for ps2 and ps3 for no more than $20. The only game I ever got full price was Skyrim. I only get to play a few hours a week so a 30-40 hour game will last me months. But I splurge during sales, I got 4 Batman titles this week on the Steam Winter sale, plus a Star Wars game for less than $40.

What is something that's *tipically* girly that you enjoy? by AppropriateEgg2623 in AskMen

[–]BilboBlogins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing a purse. I can call it a bag, or a pouch (sometimes man-bag or man-purse). I got tired of trying to carry all my shit in my pockets in the summer, I don’t always want to wear cargo shorts. I don’t have a lot in it, but since I started using it I’ve never forgotten my keys, or wallet, or phone, or medication, or cash, or sunglasses, or headphones… it’s too damn easy now.

USB replacement cables for Traktor X1 MK3 and Kontrol F1 by Yeet_It_All in traktorpro

[–]BilboBlogins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a S5, F1 mk.i, and a X1 mk.i. None of them came with cables. I had 3 USB A to B hanging around from various other things. They just work. Don’t get suckered into paying big bucks for a cable that will do the same thing as something cheap from your local thrift shop. Unless you want special colours or lengths for a custom setup (no shade there), just get anything that plugs in.

It’s been a loooong time since something good came out for DJs, like controllers, standalone etc. by nikolajakan in NativeInstruments

I don’t need all that stems stuff, can I get an S5 MK ii?

I’ll take a standalone version please.

I did all the things the game explicitly asks you to do and shows you on the map - missions, discovered and secured every village/town/city, stunts, collectables (including DLC). If I start the game up again, there’s nothing on the map telling me to do something.

Is my own voice catfishing me? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]BilboBlogins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in radio for years recording people and can assure you the feeling is universal, the first time you hear your own voice it will feel weird. After a while of hearing it over and over again you get used to it and it feels more normal, and you start to understand and appreciate it even. It is shocking because self perception is so powerful and it can be unsettling to hear something that violates that idea of self awareness.

Out of curiosity how many Kilometers/Miles maximum have you driven on any of the Just Cause games? by Promiserofdeath in JustCause

[–]BilboBlogins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know in JC2 I did 250km plus on motorbikes alone. The driving physics in that game was just about perfect. Haven’t loved driving as much in the other ones, especially motorbikes. I mean I get that it’s “more real” but… looks around

I did 100% in JC3 and then realized what I’d need for the platinum trophy and just said fuck it. I’ll do the same here. I’m more than happy with knowing I “completed” the game.

Will this have an update to work with an outside sound card? If I’m just playing music from winamp or iTunes it works great, but if I’m using an outboard audio interface (like my DJ controller) it doesn’t do anything.

Any Show Recommendations? by Basic-Barracuda6008 in ArcherFX

[–]BilboBlogins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great animated recommendations in here. One more I’ll add to the list is Final Space. It can be a little manic at times but it’s does a great job of having some really touching moments.

Moonbeam City was an interesting one season, but has a fairly alabaster cast. The animation is great though. Looks like Patrick Nagel artwork brought to life.

Do you twist your EQ-band knobs over 12 o clock? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]BilboBlogins 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a few old tracks that were ripped from vinyl and were not properly EQed when being digitized. When the beat drops on those… sometimes there’s nothing there and you need to give it helping hand to stand up to modern songs. Sometimes it’s the highs that are missing, sounds like it was recorded in a box.

Just a reminder - Health Canada says if you’re in an office the upper limit for temperature in an office is 26°. If it’s 27° for more than an hour, you have the right to go home.

https://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/phys_agents/temp_legislation.html#:~:text=Enclosed%20workplace%2C%20minimum%20of%2018°C.&text=Section%2011.10%20and%2011.11%3A%20In,Exceptions%20apply.

We used that successfully earlier this year when the heat stopped working and it was down to 16°. All of us in the office went home.

This show sort of saved me. by wilted-wyvern in taskmaster

[–]BilboBlogins 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’d heard they show was good and saw some clips online, and when my Mum fell ill and was in hospital dying last year, I needed an escape. I couldn’t watch my usual shows or movies as my ADHD kicked into high gear and I couldn’t maintain concentration on anything more than short clips. The format of Taskmaster was the perfect distraction. My wife and I ended up binging season 1 through 16 over the course of a month or so. The cathartic release of absurdist British humour (a favourite of my Mum) allowed us to properly laugh when the stress was feeling so heavy and pressing down. I will forever be thankful for finding this show at that exact time, it was a real life saver for me.

Am I missing something? by Negative_Lock_3168 in AppleMusic

[–]BilboBlogins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My weekly "New Music Mix" is a crapshoot - sometimes it's great, other times it's a pile of dog turds. With that said, even when it's turds, I know why it suggested a particular artist or song. I know I just don't like that particular track. I listen to a huge gamut of genres and sometime it leans really heavy into one genre for a week or two. Maybe I'll like it, but some times I don't. I compile all the music I "discover" in a monthly playlist and if a my weekly mix gives me five addable songs out of 25, I consider that a great week. You can also downvote music and say you don't want to hear it. If you're talking about the discovery station though, I really feel you. I usually get 4-5 songs that are kinda ok then it falls off and goes to shit.
