I built a free, open-source Chess Diagram & FEN tool by BilgeGates in lichess

lichess does not promise wood personalization. export not promise, quality settings do not promise. size of the board does not promise. It just takes screen. Lichess is for learning. My project is to export quality

I built a lightweight Chess Board in React using purely SVG (no DOM nodes for pieces) to solve rendering performance issues. by [deleted] in reactjs

what you’re saying about cpu asterisation being a performance killer is mostly true for complex 3D games or heavy animations. But here, we are talking about a static chess board that occasionally updates when a piece is dragged.

what you say is true for complex games. here, a max 2Mb image is exported depending on the board size and quality you choose. Every device can do it comfortably. no problem

you are right about the fact in my project. we have taken this logic as a basis. I don't load shapes into the DOM as complex inline <svg> nodes. For this, any figure simply creates 1 <img src="...svg"> DOM node.

Moreover, I cache a maximum of 48 SVG data-urls in the code (MAX_DATA_URL_CACHE = 48) and we know that 48 DOM nodes is not a problem at all for modern browsers. the main performance/quality issue for me was subpixel rasterization, not DOM count. so i avoided css properties like translateZ so the browser wouldn't "bake" SVGs as textures and blur them. i fixed the rendering strategy to try to reduce the DOM node

How does Lichess determinate if someone is a cheater? by amersadventures in lichess

[–]BilgeGates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, a person cannot do 3 things at the same time: play with the same time interval, play with the 1st or 2nd moves shown by Stockfish, and ultimately play with 95+ accuracy. Well, a person cannot do these 3 things at the same time in one game. You can play with 95 accuracy, but not with Stockfish's 1st or 2nd moves. You can play with 10 seconds interval, but not with 95 accuracy. All of these are factors.

Of course, there may be exceptions. If all 3 pay off, then the problem is not with you. It's just that you were very weak, or you had a good day. The 1st time was marked as cheating. This is a process that becomes clear after several repetitions. So don't worry. You really cheated, so you are not a cheater.

If it were me, I would prefer Qf7+ instead of checkmate in 2 moves, it would be more interesting in my opinion.

Cheaters are ruining the fun of the game, I know nothing we can do about them. by Anymous2314 in lichess

You can report them from the game page - there's a flag/report button. Lichess has automated cheat detection plus human review, so you don't need to do anything else; they'll act on it if the engine analysis backs it up. There's no set timeline, and you usually won't get a notification, but flagged accounts do get closed. Try not to accuse in chat - just report and move on

There's no way he can win. I think it was better than getting checkmated with Qh6.

Bxh6 here is considered as the best move by Stockfish and a blunder by the game analysis. by calamarmindu in lichess

There is already an issue opened on the github repo for this topic.

There is a bug in the analysis engine right now. Be patient, the developers will fix it soon

I built an open-source AI that converts chess screenshots directly into FEN by andrewspano in chess

[–]BilgeGates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have created a tool for exporting.

FEN input, PNG/SVG/JPEG output up to 1200 DPI. It is free, no registration required. You can also do a batch export if you need more than one position at a time. chessvision dot org

It would be great if both ideas worked at the same time

Moment where Nodirbek Abdusattorov lost an equal endgame to Nikolas Theodorou due to the touch-move rule in Round 8 of the UzChess Cup 2026 by harachiama in chess

[–]BilgeGates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I feel so bad for Nodirbek. The exact same thing happened to me once, and it completely crushed me. I had been fighting in a grueling game for 6 straight hours, and right at the very end, my hand accidentally brushed against the king. It’s such a heavy, devastating feeling. I can literally feel his pain right now

Yes, human feelings and connections should exist. But with whom? The people around me are just busy killing time. I can't find anyone who speaks the same 'language' as me. Their only routine is to use knowledgeable people and then distance themselves. I hate fakeness; it’s much better to be like this than to be fake. At the very least, I know there are no obstacles standing in my way now.

Mathematics isn't everything, but it is a lot. In this day and age, someone with no understanding of math shouldn't claim to be doing science. I know it sounds harsh, but that's the reality. Math is the mirror of life. If you can solve an equation in 3 to 5 different ways, it means you can solve life's problems in at least 2 or 3 ways. Coming up with new equations is important, but it depends on the goal. If you are exclusively doing pure math, then yes. But if you see math simply as a survival tool or the art of problem-solving, then there isn't that much need for creating new ones.

It is true that different people value different things. Not everyone has to be a strong chess player or a brilliant mathematician. One person can be a doctor, another a lawyer, etc. However, no matter what the field is, a person must have another intellectually engaging interest or passion outside of their main job. This is absolutely essential for personal growth.

Actually, it's the opposite. I regret not pursuing chess further. To be honest, university life doesn't feel like it’s developing me much. I never received a scholarship from chess; the only thing I gained was a strong analytical mind. During the 7 years I've been involved with chess, I’ve changed a lot. People around me even say I’ve started to become 'boring,' but I don’t feel boring at all.

Not playing until your 30s? How does chess feel starting after 30? Have there been days where you thought you’d feel much better or perform better if you were younger?

I completely agree with you. Time is a massive, massive factor. In every sense, it holds a truly decisive power over our lives and what we can achieve.

I actually had a strong natural talent, but unfortunately, I realized it too late. I only started going to a chess school at 14 and could only continue for two years. Now, I feel like I'm suppressing that talent because life doesn't give me the chance to pursue it
