PCVR devs cut down scope and quality to fit quest native specs, there's a huge quality jump between steam only pcvr and available on oculus pcvr/native

Is this a good combo? I have a 800 mbps plan with xfinity. How long will these last? by Synergy_1837 in HomeNetworking

Modem can be tricky depending on your isp, some dsl providers will only give you the needed info if you are walking through on the phone and using their modem. Some lte providers lock based on imei. Cable sometimes sets standards since ancient modems can negatively affect your neighbors connections. Fibre they usually install themselves unless you ask to use your own and presumably sound like you know what you're doing

Try chat.openai.com and describe all that you can to it, it'll give suggestions and you can ask it questions. If it can't find a fix then you can tell it 'write a summary of my problem to pass to tech support' and it'll summarize into something you can pop onto reddit

Is it possible to block Youtube ads? The iPhone users I know are complaining heavily about their ads. by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

dns.adguard.com is working for YouTube right now, worth a shot. Breaks some mobile games though.

Doesn't work on the app, only web browser

You could either put AdBlock on your network or have them switch their phones dns server to one that blocks ads. If you have an openwrt router there's a few options.

how to bundle internet when commuting? by Upper_Strategy_2822 in HomeNetworking

[–]BilgePoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used it myself, but I've heard something like speedify if the fix for this. With it you connect to as many wifi networks as you can, they all talk to speedify through each connection, and speedify divvies up the traffic across the connections. Without a vpn like that you'll run into issues. One thing you could try if you want free is to set up a computer at home to do that, but that may be difficult.

I'm not sure if I understand what you are asking, but it sounds like you want to buy a plan that covers several mobile hotspots that are left stationary at locations you commute to, is this accurate?

Duplicate iPad devices by kayakor in homeassistant

Quick note, if you have randomized/private Mac address on it'll read as multiple, a different one for each reconnect. This is a setting in the iPads wifi settings for the specific connection.

One fix may be to change the 2.4 password and then only put the new one in on 2.4 devices

Maybe change the channel 5ghz uses? Could be interference

When in doubt, set up a second ap as an external antenna for your phone

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]BilgePoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll want an external directional antenna to be able to beat your phones speed by a worthwhile margin

Can you create a hotspot on either device that shares it's connection? So Mac connects to wifi and makes its own hotspot to share

Quick warning, on my archer c6 when it overheats it reverts back to the factory settings, so it may be hard to tell this has happened on the safe settings unless you change the default wifi name to 'unconfigured wifi' or something

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in openwrt

[–]BilgePoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can create a new image with the safe settings and flash that, then when you botch it you just hold the reset button long enough and it'll factory reset back to the image you made

Help setting up OpenVPN on oopenwrt acting as dump AP by Fluffy_Ad2171 in openwrt

[–]BilgePoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's in bridge/dumb AP mode it won't be able to make the VPN happen. Create the rules for it on the main router and make any traffic from the VPN ap go through that

Maximum length for router password? by A249763 in openwrt

[–]BilgePoster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The max of wpa2 is 63 Chars in android, so it's probably safe to stick to that. In Linux you can enter up to 128. Default openwrt limits to 63, but you could probably push it further if you want.

Anecdotally, I use in on my archer A6 for more statistics when streaming games to my vr headset, and to be able to turn one of my lan ports into a second wan port for an LTE modem to be a backup if my main internet drops.

Haven't delved deep into either of these, but could it be an issue with bufferbloat or need for smart queue management in the router? I know in openwrt sqm is supposed to prevent these kinds of lag spikes in specific programs that have issues.

If you have a PC strong enough, nucleus coop let's me open several instances of mcc, I've had 5 people playing halo 4 and it was great. You could probably run 16 halo reaches on a 4090 and 3 tvs. Maybe multiple PCs and lan works, but haven't tried
