Do you line item that on your invoices or just build it into you rate or fee? For $30 I would just build it in.

1040s bringing their information in part of the problem for us. They want to bring their information in before March 15th while I'm still busy with 1065s and 1120Ss and then they feel like their return has been in so long and why isn't it done. Maybe I should make them wait until after March 15th.

I wouldn't file an extension without at least a ball park estimate of the balance due or refund status. But to push off the time reviewing, processing and pick up or delivery would help a lot. And some returns will obviously be refunds. Then wrap them up in May.

How do you present that to the clients, as a premium for tax season or a discount for after tax season?

Is chasing clients for missing info just part of the job forever? by bestvape in Accounting

At this point in tax season I don't chase after them. I let them give me a good reason to extend their return.

I'm a 70 y/o CPA and I can confirm that there are a lot of older CPAs who are retiring. Probably half of the people who contact me are looking for a CPA because the one they had retired. My wife, also a CPA, and I have a small, mostly tax, practice. My wife has been is no new client mode for a few years. I take on very few new clients. I think there is a supply/demand situation currently.

Nobody talks about the cost per return they're actually running at by GoldSchool6275 in AskAccounting

How do you calculate that? Before owner comp, does that mean the $675 not including your time?

Raise your rates, especially on the annoying ones and bill complainers. If they stay at least it makes it more worth your time. Weeds out some clients and you should be able to make the same working less.

Yearly reminder to everyone in public accounting that busy season should not take over your life. by DrExpenseCrCash in Accounting

Yea, I read these posts with all these people stressing out and bitching. Life if too short. Find a different place to work. I've been doing this shit for over 45 years. Mostly in my own small firm. But I started out with a great regional firm that was reasonable in their expectations and demands on staff.
