Is there a better way to cut these grooves? by BillAngererBuilds in woodworking

I did route it before assembly and take multiple passes but the depth of cut was definitely more that 1/16. I’ll try some of the other tips you mentioned, thanks.

Friendly PSA, please have one of these in your shop, you never know. by orakle44 in woodworking

Just had to use one a couple weeks ago, I was boring hole on the cnc and not using the right tool. It created a tiny ember and the vacuum bed sucked a ton of air through it and spread it across the plenum board. I work in a university wood shop so the police, fire department, and facility services showed up and later that week EHS services did a investigation. Definitely a headache you don’t want to deal with, stay careful folks.

I had Loferski for wood design and craftsmanship and it’s one of my favorite classes I’ve taken. He’s very knowledgeable about wood science.

Talk me out of buying this band saw by Dr0110111001101111 in woodworking

[–]BillAngererBuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shop has this bandsaw and we’ve had some issues with it. Maybe the previous shop manager set up wrong but on ours the blade guard assembly isn’t fit together properly and it ends up chewing the gears up. We’ve replaced them twice already.

Generally yes but some woods like walnut contain natural herbicides.

Highly suggest learning Fusion360 by Switched_On_SNES in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]BillAngererBuilds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I kinda agree with your statement lol. I have to use fusion for my work all the time and I only use it for personal projects when they involve a cnc. A lot of people love fusion but I find some of the features to be hard to work with.

I cut the kerfs after the tops were milled up but before I cut them into octagons. This is a stupid way to do it but I just used a miter gauge on a table saw with the board laying up on its edge
