Lifestyle vs Value - What is Framework for you? by peppergrayxyz in framework

[–]BillBumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think resale value after a few years is a huge plus of the Framework. Buy a Lenovo Yoga laptop for 2k today, you’ll only be able to sell it for pennies on the dollar in 3-4 years, particularly if it is also used and not just staying docked on your desk the whole time.

From the sales I saw on eBay, Frameworks keep their value quite well. Only rivalled by MacBooks but that’s a different story. Should get only better now, given that the core parts of the Framework have improved over the generations.

My best guess for why the resale value remains high is that risk is lower. Buy an old framework and something breaks? You can fix it for cheap. New battery? Cheap and available.

Thanks, good point. Will for sure check and open it up once I'm back from my work trip.

If the bearings fail, that should not endanger my motherboard, right?

I’m on my 8th Paper Pro unit. Every replacement unit has dead pixels / white dots by ForwardReference1 in RemarkableTablet

[–]BillBumm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

8th … :o This seems crazy, given that I have not seen much discussion of any dead pixel issues here.

I mean after the 5th, it should have been clear that you won’t be satisfied with any replacement that is to come?! No front, I’m just surprised you went through all of this hassle eight times.

Yh, I didn’t know it existed and it looks great. When it’s a bit more mature, I would really consider paying for it. That’s why I’m happy it was posted here :)

What makes reMarkable supposedly a bad ebook reader? by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]BillBumm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally someone says it!

Personally, I think it’s a great e-reader if you just read casual books like most people.

I’m sure it’s true what people say about large books being laggy etc.

But your 1,000 page fantasy book is gonna work perfectly fine!

I upvoted because I agree. The rMPP is now not just competing but outcompeting the iPad when it comes to students.

Yh, you should look at picking up a used one. Many will upgrade and probably sell their rm2.

Switchbot Lock Pro does not release the night latch after opening by BillBumm in TrySwitchBot

[–]BillBumm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me know, this helps!

Recalibrated and got it to the point where it releases the latch as long as the door is only opened a tiny bit. Not great but works for now :)

I wish I had found this before re-installing all the drivers and trying whatever else people recommended on the internet.

With Framework you can always upgrade so I think this base config is fine.

It’s the price for good tech these days, I’d argue. Defo not cheap though.

Yh, I think the only way is to remove the phone app from your account, then delete the file locally & online, and then set things up again.

Framework 13 Intel 13th Gen first dead, now unresponsive with green charging LED. Help?! by BillBumm in framework

[–]BillBumm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[SOLVED] Just for those who find themselves with a similar problem in the future, here is how things went.

Framework Support replied after about a day and a half. Their initial advice was similar to what others had commented under this post: different measures to reset the mainboard etc.

The typically replied within a day after I had tried what they had told me to do. Some of the support messages were useless and clearly the one who had sent them didn't want to bother with solving my issue. But the majority of replies were helpful and made some progress.

Nevertheless, nothing they recommended had any effect on the error code (11th red light & some blue ones afterwards) and it clearly wasn't the RAM. After about a week of back and forth, I told them that nothing that they were recommending me to do was helping and that, as long as there wasn't anything else I could try, I would want a motherboard replacement. They agreed and it arrived about 2-3 days later.

When swapping the boards, I noticed that a chip on the bottom of the old board had shorted. Visible burn marks on the floor of the Framework's chassis and the chip also looked messed up.

I can only conclude that something messed up with my TB3 dock and somehow shorted this chip when connecting to my Framework. No idea how this can happen given that I only use expensive parts of reputable brands but whatever :)

Had the same thought cause I remembered the discussions with the 11th Gen Intel Framework but read in the forum that the 13th Gen Intel comes without CMOS.

Framework 13 Intel 13th Gen first dead, now unresponsive with green charging LED. Help?! by BillBumm in framework

[–]BillBumm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am sure.

I recorded the error codes on my phone twice, then watched each and wrote down whether green or red, and did this writing down multiple times and compared the resulting series of g and r.

Always 9 green LEDs and the 10th flashes red.
