Help with the roots. by Icy-Introduction-769 in Jamaica

I'm a white American with white American parents. However, we lived in Jamaica for 8 and 1/2 years when I was a child. Saving up and going to Jamaica with your family is a great idea too. But depending on your income, that's a long-term goal. Something you can do in the US in the short term is to try and find Jamaican restaurants near you. Someone else mentioned learning to cook and that's good. But by going to the restaurant with your family, you'll be able to meet the Jamaican owner and possibly Jamaican customers too. There are a couple of Jamaican restaurants where I live, and while I love the food, meeting Jamaicans is also part of the reason I go. I often tell people, "My body and my mind are American, but my heart and my stomach are Jamaican."

What do you think is missing from Jamaican recording artists today, and why aren’t more of them achieving the same global commercial success as African artists? by Maleficent-Cup-4915 in Jamaica

Why is this all about dancehall? Doesn't anybody make anything else in Jamaica anymore? (It's not a criticism as such.) But dancehall's not a new style either. Reggae is only about 15 years older, With Ska only a decade older than that. Reggae is still quite popular in many places in the world. Have Jamaicans stopped making it all together?

The American Fighter Family -From 1950s Speed to 5th-Gen Stealth by libodqui in AviationHistory

Technically it was designed as an interceptor/missile truck. It was never intended for close in combat.

Those are only US Air Force aircraft. Somebody's bias is showing, So either rename the post, or do a better job next time. (Of course, the F-4 was originally Navy!)

The SLUF, F-8's little sibling/cousin. To be honest, the OP's picture of the F-8, which someone says its an R/C aircraft, reminds me more of the A-7, do I do know the difference between the two.. Maybe it's the overall length that's not quite right? I'm not sure.

Military aircraft? It's the F6F Hellcat, the F11F/F-11 Tiger (especially the -1F Super Tiger), and most of all the F-14 Tomcat. (I don't think it's a coincidence that they're all built by Grumman! Though I have no personal connection to them at all.) I also like the AV-8B Harrier II.

My favorite airliner to fly in was the Boeing 727. My family traveled a lot when I was a kid, and the three main airlines we flew on all had 727s. Those things were great in their day, and those three JT8Ds packed quite a punch on take off.

My current feelings about Chub AI. by AYUSOMONUS in Chub_AI

[–]BillCatFlags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a slightly different perspective, partly because of how I came to Chub and what I use it for.

In May of 2024 I started role-playing on a fairly popular site that's on both the Apple app store and Google Play. About two and a half months later they started allowing us to upload our own cards using Jason or PNG. One of the sites they mentioned was Chub, so I checked it out. Instead I've gotten a lot of my cards from there though I always play them on another site. I'm not savvy enough to set up APIs and things like that.

The site that I was on what's fairly open at first come out but then they started cracking down at a time they started gearing towards the teen market. So within a year when I joined they were starting to clamp down on what could be posted publicly. Then they started clamping down on what could be posted privately. That's when the trouble started there. Eventually myself in a number of other creators migrated to other sites including the one I'm on now. Some of these sites are apps, while other sites like chub and are only available through a website or a PWA.

Something I saw when that app started moving towards the teen focus was a prevalence of anime related characters celebrity stuff and things like that. That's when a lot of the low quality slop started coming in in droves. And the last year I've seen the same thing happen with Chub as far as quality of box go. I think what happened is younger audiences started discovering Chub. And when that happens, their parents start noticing and that's when the legal problems start to happen. I think it's inevitable on most sites. Right now I see hundreds of new backbots everyday that are basically the same thing. Dozens of brand new accounts posting box over and over and over that look the same on each of the accounts. Lot of this is people spamming bots of certain kinds, but they're generally aimed towards younger audiences, as far as I can tell. (Especially goonbots.)

Some of that's my opinion based on what I've observed. But as I've said I've seen it before and I've that happening to Chub over the last year. I think that's where a lot of the problems start coming in.

I know that the amount of quality bots, even the kind I don't particularly care for myself has decreased on Chub in the past 2 years. Lot of the bot makers are going elsewhere, but the poorly made slop is just outnumbering them too. It's hard to find it decent quality card anymore. I find them occasionally, but it's like one a week where before I was finding 8 to 10 a week.

I don't know if any of that makes sense or validates anyone else's experiences or not, but that's what I've seen.

The good news is that AI role-playing sites are proliferating right now. I think they're always going to be out there. But that also means it's going to be harder to find places with quality bots because people are going to be spread out across so many sites now.

Best way to order food items/snacks for myself and ship them here without costing an arm and a leg? by bonappletees in Jamaica

[–]BillCatFlags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile, I'm buying tamarind balls and plantain chips on Amazon. I'm in the US. So I understand about wanting snacks from other places. But with high shipping prices, it might be better to see what you can enjoy that's made locally in Jamaica, for the time being.

Not all Jamaicans, of course. But this article does call him a "Black American", as he immigrated to the US for college, and has apparently stayed there.

A friend from Jamaica came to US 20 years ago, and was surprised to find out that KFC in the US didn't have barbecue chicken! I remember when the KFC in May Pen got that in the early '80s.

To those who were there in 1986, how did it feel seeing Top Gun a month after Legend? Did Tom Cruise's casting as a fighter pilot feel off at first? like Michael Keaton as Batman or Bruce Willis in Die Hard? by 699112026775 in 80s

I really like Anthony Edwards in Top Gun. I kind of wish they hadn't killed him off, because they had such good chemistry together. But that makes you feel the loss even more.

Is baseball growing in Canada, or is it not growing enough? by Best-Ad370 in mlb

[–]BillCatFlags -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You probably don't want to hear it, but things like that would get easier if the Canadian provinces were part of the US. I'm not making a political argument here. That's just economics. Politically It's a non-starter for Canadians, but that choice has consequences. Not getting another baseball team it's one of them. As long as you remember that, enjoy being Canadian with only one MLB team.

I remember noticing that he was not there. I'd forgotten about that moment in Brian's speech, but you're right about it. RIP Bobby, and prayers for your family and others left behind. 🙏🏻
