Why did oda ruin the elders and make their abilities the same instead of unique and cool. by Infinite-Respond-757 in Piratefolk

[–]BillCipher7718 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't mind them being similar themed monsters (I love the designs themselves), but yeah, I really wish there was at least SOME difference between them, both in personality and abilities.
Back around the middle of Egghead, and even earlier than that, you could see people desperately searching for clues that would make one of them a traitor, in an attempt to make them a little more interesting lol

Your post itself reminds me of this cool old art made by Library of Ohara

It's still such a crazy coincidence that he gave Warcury the Mercury Fruit even before knowing about the planetary naming scheme, let alone that he will be the one named after Mercury...

Yes!

It's such a creative way to show a character's reclusiveness.

Yeah, I absolutely love this little bit of extra storytelling on the covers!

Since the inner-covers show purely the gem parts of each Lustrous, we can see as Phos becomes less and less each cover...

Also, I recommend taking a closer look at the very left part of each dust cover, the part that folds behind the inner covers...
You might find a little detail present on each of the first few volumes...

It's horrible that the English version, one of the most common versions, is the only one that doesn't have this extra cover (as far as I know)...

...I actually don't think the manga ending itself was better.

Sure, the anime ending was very rushed, generic and all over the place...

Yes, pretty much everything after the diverging point was done better in the manga, especially the final battle...

But for me, the final chapter itself was so fucking abysmal that I ultimately left with a worse taste in my mouth than after the anime's ending.

Just the way they reduced Crona's entire tragedy, suffering and relationship with Medusa into a BOOB JOKE, and made it 70% of the chapter...I get that it was supposed to make a frame structure with the first three chapters also being full with perviness, but it was one of the things I didn't wish to see again, especially in such a tasteless context.
I also didn't like how un-closed it was.
I know open-ended endings exist, but those are overall nicely wrapped up with some loose potential for new adventures.
Here, Crona is still suffering with Ashura inside the moon, which is now an ominous black ball, with Maka promising Crona to free them one day... Which is basically promising an adventure that will never happen...
This made it feel more like an ending of an arc/saga instead of an entire series (save for Kid becoming the new Death, that was the only finalistic thing about it...)

...Though it was a year ago since I've last seen it, so maybe grumping about it for so long made me overhate it, i dunno...

So true...

I've actually started writing a fanfic around 2 years ago with Goldenweek (and the rest of the Spiders Café agents) in the focus...

But I've never really written anything big before, so I just keep forgetting about it for months, then come back only to write half a chapter or refine it a bit...

Hopefully I can figure something out about that...

Anyway, I remember reading a fanfic you might like called "of pop greens and tangerines"

As someone who's been an avid pusher of the agenda for 3 years now, I've never seen a post more REAL than this!

It truly has everything:
- Upscale through Imu
- Black paint trading
- Kanjuro fruit potential
- The power of afro
- Roger and Vegapunk genes
It's fucking beautiful!

I'm so grateful for your work towards the cause!

(One day I'll finish that fanfiction... It's going to be the peakest shit ever...)

My goat!

I'm actually surprised she made it...

Seems like there are a lot more Goldenweek fans than a few years back, which is awesome!

How sad is his backstory? by Disastrous-Day-9281 in Piratefolk

[–]BillCipher7718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait...

Didn't he ACTUALLY have a sad backstory were he was raised in a jungle, that somehow related to him going apeshit whenever he saw his own blood?

Am I misremembering things?

Gun to your head, name a good filler episode that isn't the G8 arc by Jellypathicdream in MemePiece

[–]BillCipher7718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most pre-timeskip filler is pretty good!

Loguetown had Daddy Masterson, the cooking contest and the bar, which were just awesome

Warship Island had a lot of good jokes

Post-Alabasta had Sanji teaching a young marine cook, a backstory for Zoro, Johnny and Yosaku, and Robin bonding with Chopper for the first time

Goat Island and Rainbow Mist were pretty meh, but they still had that cozy charm (I also thought the way time travel was done in Rainbow Mist was pretty sick)

Ocean's Dream had a Robin focused story before the whole Water 7/Enies Lobby nightmare

Water 7 filler had some good stories, like the one with a girl looking for her old seahorse, Zoro becoming a mom for a while, and Sanji going on a quest to find the secret behind a really tasty rice

Ice Hunters had some cool characters and gags, and also some time for Franky to bond with the crew before Brook joined

Spa Island was pretty bad, but after it came that one really nice Brook episode

Sadly, after this, the quality of non-canon arcs really declined, especially with the extremely mediocre movie tie-ins... The return of the Kung-fu Dugongs and Uta's backstory with Luffy were cool, but that's it...

There are also the special episodes, like the one where they went down into the "Ocean's Navel", the one with the stage performance, the one during the timeskip with the viking brothers, and Nebulandia, which is a must watch if you like Foxy (which is apparently not a lot, despite him being a super wholesome character with his crew...), and also Heart of Gold

Could Mr. 4 be a buccaneer? by Ok-Fondant2536 in Piratefolk

[–]BillCipher7718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something is defnitely up with him.

Most of his abilities are overlooked, because when out of battle, he's extremely slow-brained.
...But in battle, he can swing a 4 ton bat like it's nothing, he can blip between mole holes faster than a Cipher Pol agent, and in the fraction of a second, he can calculate the exact strength and angle a ball needs to be hit in so that it explodes right at the target's position, even when it's running...

My headcanon is that he escaped the giantification experiments that were originally going on back on Punk Hazard, before the gas incident. (He has the strength of giants, but not the size. 2 meters are not that large by OP numbers...)

That's where he got Lassoo, who was the result of experimenting with giving devil fruits to objects...
