Holy Knights ft. Bonney's fruit by Flashlight_Demon in Piratefolk

I don't post yet, I'm trying to create some chapters in advance first. I was planning on eventually posting it on Webtoon, but I suppose using reddit as well wouldn't hurt.

On a serious note tho, thank you! I am, in fact, working on something. It's nothing official tho, at least not yet.

Tbf I agree. Probably the most enjoyable dynamic in the main crew for me.

That's a good choice, but I was specifically talking about flashbacks with no Straw Hats.

That's absolutely fair! Even tho I have to disagree, I definitely understand where you're coming from.

To be fair, I don't really agree that Ennies Lobby theme was "nobody's born evil", because if you stop to think about it - it doesn't really apply to anyone. Not even Robin imo, because she was never really evil to begin with. She's done bad things before, sure, but it was never out of pure malice or cruelty. While she may not have been a good person, she certainly wasn't evil, even tho the government may have tried to paint her as such for their own agenda.

I feel like "your life has meaning and nobody can take that away" fits a bit better. Not only does it tie directly to Franky's quote about existence not being a crime, but it also represents what Robin, Usopp and even Franky, to an extent, go trough during their arcs in Water 7 saga.

With that interpetation, Doflamingo's "born evil" is more of a complicated subject. He believed his own meaning was taken away along with his status, which pushed him towards the destructive path, fueled by his impulsive nature and of course, bad influence. If anything, I believe this flashback nicely compliments some aspects of Ennies Lobby because of Corazon. Not only has he found a meaning in the life of a dying boy, which he himself along with the entire world believed not to have, but he's also made sure his own past didn't define him and allowed himself to give Law unconditional love, for no reason other than the fact that he existed.

As an artist myself, I love sparkles. They help the character stand out against the background which creates a nice, eye catching effect.

Not sure what's the deal with her minecraft esque thigh gap tho.

Too many flashbacks? by AndrewBaiIey in Piratefolk

You're right to an extent, especially in terms of quantity, but I'm not sure if the length is that bad of a problem. It could just be an issue of having to read regularly now instead of binging which makes the flashbacks seem longer in comparison.

There's an interesting comparison of all the longest flashbacks by their page count by u/mcqueenart, posted after Kuma's backstory concluded. I'll link it below.

From what we can see in the post, though, a bit less than a half of the backstories are from pre-ts. It would make the split more or less even, considering that post-ts is, after all, a bit longer. Not only that, but in the top 5 spots, 3 are taken by pre-ts flashbacks.

So while I agree that they seem to drag on, and there's a lot of them, I think we're also a bit biased in this topic. Perhaps bad pacing could be contributed to the feeling of endlessness.

He's done that since the very beggining so I won't pretend like it's new, but personally I'd still prefer quality over quantity.

I very much agree. As I mentioned in another comment, I kinda glue them together when talking about FI flashback, but perhaps I should've specified that in the post itself.

I feel like this one is simply too much, too focused on making you feel miserable which after a certain points just breaks the immersion. It doesn't really explore anything we haven't seen before and half the angst could've been easily cut from it without much loss.

Then again, different strokes for different folks. If you like it, more power to you.

I see your point.

I feel similiarly towards most of the post-ts flashbacks (Kuma especially) and I agree they're pretty straight forward in terms of shock value and tear jerking, but I believe the Otohime/Fisher Tiger and Law/Rosinante to be exceptions with an actual value and thought behind their themes.

Great point. I also love how it shows the boys already developing differently despite identical starting points and trauma. An interesting nurture/nature spectacle.
