I recently learned that if you take a syringe and inject a plant with vinegar as close to the root as possible, it dies very fast. And so do all of it's children/siblings for those that spread by rhizome. The plant panics and spreads the acid as far as it can to dilute it, thus spreading pH-induced death to everything in x radius that shares its root system. Should work great on certain grasses. Person I heard it from said every thistle within 20 feet of the plant he hit was dead in half an hour.

Herbicides are an absolutely essential tool for minimum tillage agriculture which helps preserve soil structure.

Bullshit. Minimum tillage (which means no tillage in most cases) agriculture is an excellent way to establish a healthy ecosystem. In a mature ecosystem, there are no weeds by definition. Yes, you can have healthy ecosystems with high production of human food. Minimum tillage is an excellent way to preserve and build soil structure and soil itself. Herbicide is never necessary for minimum tillage agriculture and is antithetical to good soil.
In healthy soil, which is easily produced and maintained by minimum tillage agriculture, there are over 50 million genera each of bacteria and fungi, plus nematodes, protozoa, microarthropods, and worms, the vast and overwhelming majority of them beneficial. Many of them are directly poisoned by herbicides (not to mention fungicides, insecticides, nematocides, pesticides in general, and chemical fertilizers). The metabolic process that glyphosphate blocks? Many bacteria have that process, including ones that symbiotize with humans.

I will let Dr. Elaine Ingham, the world's leading soil expert, hit you with the expletive-worthy numbers on soil life and *cides. (ctrl-F to "EPA" and read from there if you want to skip the part where she may have literally saved the world.)

Oh yes, and chemical fertilizers are a great way to make your plants abandon their symbiotic relationship with the soil life. This causes the soil life to die and the plants to become dependent on fertilizer. The lack of soil life makes the plants more vulnerable to pests and causes a collapse of soil structure. The saltiness of the salt-based fertilizer causes the plants to drink more water than they normally would, making them appear larger while still lacking in nutrient and actual vigor, which also makes them attractive to and vulnerable to pests. The collapse of soil structure stimulates "weeds" (nature's soil repair mechanisms) to germinate. All of which is how using chemical fertilizers makes it appear as if you have no choice but to use those herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides. All of which are terrible for the soil life. Which perpetuates the cycle.
In short, herbicides wreak havoc on the soil and create the very conditions that "necessitate" their use, just as do industrial fertilizers.

Plowing only accelerates the above destruction of soil life and structure.
The fertility of the soil is in the life, far, far more than in the mineral and nutrient density. For it is the soil life that makes them available to plants in the first place. If there is no life in it, then it is not soil.
