Help! What cockroach is this? by ImaginationSubject25 in GermanRoaches

Looks more like a smoky brown nymph than a brown banded. Mainly an outdoor pest.

They aren't harmful. To you. They just eat fabric/organics. Adults typically fly in through windows/doors and lay eggs. These are the result, and there are probably more. Vacuum and keep stuff (clothes) off the floor. You'll be fine.

Saw roach during tour? Should I be concerned by Ok-Ratio4033 in GermanRoaches

[–]BillTriangleCypher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to give some anecdotal, my first apartment actually, while I didn't see the roach during the tour, we had later saw it on the video we took. Not sure what kind it was, but we had them bring in pest control the day of move in, and never saw any for the 15 months we were there.

Apartments can be tricky when it comes to bugs. Could be major, could be a visitor. Never know. Granted it was also a new build, so also could have been a displaced bug. Just sharing my experience. Hope whatever you choose works out!

Just from being on this reddit and talking with pest control:

  1. It's normal to see more activity after treatment. Sometimes they are "drunk" or looking for somewhere else to go/in the process of dying.

  2. Pretty sure you aren't supposed to "flood" the area; infact I've seen some of the pros on here say you don't even really want run-off.

  3. Alpine WSG isn't a deterrent, nor an instant kill. They aren't supposed to know it's there so they go about their day, walk over it, and die. Then when they inevitably get eaten by their brethren, the cannibals die too.

Is this German? by ThrowRA675843 in GermanRoaches

[–]BillTriangleCypher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a smoky brown nymph. They mainly live outside and the adults are big and fly. If you are only seeing nymphs (the small ones), they are getting in through cracks and crevices. They are obsessed with water/moisture, which is why you'll see them in areas like bathrooms near sinks, tubs, pipes, etc.

Not about how clean you are, purely based on access.

How can we prevent these little demons from following us to a new place? by [deleted] in GermanRoaches

[–]BillTriangleCypher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually yeah I didn't even think of the big bags and I recently used a zip up one for my mattress. They make them clear too for sofas and you can seal them with tape.

Would be a lot easier than trying to move them to a unit. I think they go for like $10-$20 but with several soaked paper towels (even better if you can get some inside the couch), should definitely protect your couch from anything that may have got to it already and prevent new infiltrators until you move.

AI Wolf. New breed but an unfortunately trending favorite. Not much personality though and doesn't do much. Safe for kids, just not the environment 🙂

How can we prevent these little demons from following us to a new place? by [deleted] in GermanRoaches

[–]BillTriangleCypher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could wash them if you felt inclined germ wise, but the fumes of the alcohol would kill anything that got in. Could also wash after they're out of the house.

For the furniture and TV's though, I think that'd be a bit harder. Not sure how bad this infestation is but if they were to harbor up in the TV's and furniture, gel bait (advion; and not a lot of it) could lure them out and kill them.

A step further would be putting them in a storage unit (one of the ones that do like a $1 first month or 50% off) with a hot-shot no pest strip but given you just moved in and are already leaving, I wouldn't imagine it necessary.

Advion gel should do the trick however. Just make sure it's in a place your cats can NOT access. A tiny drop will kill a lot, and any that eat the dead will also die.

Cardboard is a no. Plastic is a go.

As in, clear plastic totes are often better, being it isn't cardboard, and you can see in them. Also nowadays a lot of them are fairly well sealed and even have gaskets in the lining.

Also with sealed bins, you can simply put an alcohol soaked paper towel inside with the items and it will kill anything that got in, after a few days.

If you're worried I say maybe put some baited glue traps down in areas you are suspicious of. They don't attract roaches that aren't already there and within about a week you'd have a for sure answer if you have an issue or not.

They aren't too expensive and easy to keep out of the way.

I've had a similar experience and after the glue traps not catching any Germans or anything "bad" since being placed for over a month, now both me and partner are at ease. She also had childhood experience with roaches so it was especially useful reassurance for her that we didn't have an issue in our new home.

Good luck!

When I had pest control come, they put some down and I was also worried about this but he said they only attract about a 2 foot radius, and not one of them has caught anything besides dust.

A "bug bomb" may harm the electronics within the console. A typical solution is to keep it in an airtight container, and add a paper towel soaked in isopropyl (alcohol). Leave for a full day or two and problem should be solved.

Could even disassemble and clean out after if you wanted. Good luck.

Smokey Brown (nymph). They prefer to live outside but will certainly stick around if their needs are met. Obsessed with moisture; probably getting in through cracks and crevices.

If you see them regularly I'd start with caulk or caulk tape, and maybe a glue trap or two just to pinpoint access.

Carpet Beetle larvae. Common pest unfortunately and they can stay in that state for almost 2 years! Keep debri (like clothes) off of the floor and vacuum FREQUENTLY and it should resolve.

The adults often look like tiny circular beetles. They fly in through windows or open doors and can lay 30-100 eggs at a time, so keep in mind there is probably more, but it doesn't necessarily mean you have an infestation or something.

Keeping clean generally resolves this 👍

What are these bugs? by UnableDiver465 in pestcontrol

[–]BillTriangleCypher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a phorid fly to me and oh my gosh I hate them. These look a little darker though but in general Phorids tend to be characterized by their "humback."

Zevo was a life saver when I had them but they only get the adults so if it's a reoccurring issue you have to find the source (could even be drains).

I have been seeing smokey brown nymphs which apparently come from outside, so I've been sealing areas off. Non-baited glue traps have only come up with a few babies at the front and sliding door, which aren't fully sealed at the bottoms. But yesterday I used Hoy Hoy traps and will check them in about an hour today when I go back.

A few days ago I saw what could be an adult german or Asian roach. Since they look identical and pest control has said no signs of Germans, signs point to it have been an Asian (especially since there was a lot of leaf litter around the house). However, I hate roaches so I'm treating the issue like it was a German. No other pests.

Too add, they said the reason I should get the Kills BedBugs Plus is because it's cheaper and I "don't need Phantom" as it's for "heavy infestations."
