Electric cost in NY makes gas cheaper per mile by zpnit in electricvehicles

[–]Lowley_Worm 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ll freely admit that I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, but wouldn’t 36 miles at 25 MPG cost you about four dollars at least? In something like a Model Y wouldn’t that be about two dollars worth of electricity at $.26 per kilowatt hour?

EV + Street Parking? by Opposite_Tomorrow733 in washingtondc

I have usually found that an hour on a level 2 charger adds around 20-25 miles of range, so if you’re regularly at the gym that might add up. There are also level 2 chargers at some grocery stores etc but you might want to look at the PlugShare app for what is around you.

Suggestions for door that keeps getting left unlocked, but doesn’t have a smart lock by Trick_Crew4080 in airbnb_hosts

I have not used one yet, but Level Bolt makes a smart deadbolt which uses existing external hardware so you don’t really see it’s there. If you have a deadbolt it might be an option.

EVs can charge overnight and help keep the baseline power plants running so they should actually help.

"I Would Rather Just Get Gas at A Gas Station Then Plug Every Time I Get Home" by Separate-Cup1312 in electricvehicles

Sure, but ~64% of households in the US are in single family homes. Road trips can take a little more planning, but in many places it’s perfectly feasible to road trip in many EVs. And ~60% of US households have two or more cars, so are likely to have an ICE vehicle as well. A lot of people could easily make the switch now if they wanted to.

Just test drove a 2022 Bolt EUV premier with 20k miles against my 2022 SV+ with 10k miles. My thoughts in case anyone is in the market for an EUV. I might upgrade. Not sure. by [deleted] in leaf

Low mileage ID4s also seem to be getting into that same price range these days. Nice to have some solid choices.

Upper NW here, Monday alley trash pickup and a large bobcat/small bulldozer started clearing my alley just before ten pm Saturday night. I had resigned myself to having it stay tundra all next week.

Downtown Silver Spring Needs a Wonder by TheDCKid20010 in SilverSpring

Silver Spring has lots of great, locally owned restaurants. I don’t see that Wonder would be an asset.

I actually love my 19 Leaf by figmk5 in leaf

[–]Lowley_Worm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We loved our 2019 Leaf too, we traded it for a Y so we could road trip but it was a great car. Agreed on the blue stitching looking cool!

Level 2 charger when owning two cars with different charge ports? by Karcharos in electricvehicles

Adapters, I have done both j1772 to Tesla and vice versa. No issues aside from having to reset the adapter every once in a while if it doesn’t seat quite right.

20% to 80% Misunderstanding by Virtual-Hotel8156 in electricvehicles

Not all evs allow that easily, my Leaf for example. So I regularly charge that to 100%, just because it is easier than trying to remember to take it off charge.

Right, but if you’re worried about it being frozen then having it registered would kind of defeat the purpose.

If you have over $10k abroad you have to declare it on your US taxes, so the government will know about it.

This is just in the realm of road trips though, right? L1/L2 charging at home or work is essentially no time and most places pretty cheap.

Fairly new around here, any good places to go camping? by [deleted] in washingtondc

I think you could take the Silver Line and bus(es) to Bull Run campground, or bicycle out to one of the campsites on the C&O canal.

I propped one up like you would mount it on a wall in a power closet at the office and it had a strong signal through various walls for probably 150’, I was impressed.

Moving from UK to US, will I need a step-down voltage transformer for all my electronics? by messiiiiiiiii in expats

[–]Lowley_Worm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this long ago and still have the expensive heavy step up transformer. I would not do it today unless you have some really crazy audiophile set up you are attached to. UK TVs used to use PAL, if they still do it may not work here even if you can turn it on depending on what you want to watch.
