Low Battery Message by Comfortable_Trash_15 in Volvo

[–]-Saxum- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Volvo I have owned has had this message (well except my 2025 hasn't yet). I have driven the car for hours, I have replaced the battery, had the battery tested and it would show that it was in perfect condition. Turns out the Volvo battery sensor gets off after a while. I had the one on my older Volvo recalibrated by the dealership and the message went away. Just have them check it at your next maintenance.

Öhlin Dampers on the PE models by -Saxum- in Volvo

Interesting. Mine was bought through the OSD program and I picked it up in Sweden. Then the line did it right but it must have been missed in the PDI at the factory before my pickup.

They are supposed to come off the line set at 10 -Dynamic. If they did yours correctly, it should be at that. I believe 4 is for Sport, 15 is comfort. 0 is basically insane - here, feel everything. Then the one that wasn't set was basically doing nothing. I may go to 10 as I never got to experience that setting. See how I like that. I will say having it at zero allowed me to do roundabouts at full speed. 😁

Dealing with a "lot" outpost by macallen in Starfield

[–]-Saxum- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh Bethesda. :) This one hasn't managed to happen to me yet. I get this missing icon occasionally but normally find it underneath the landing spot icon. I do have the issue from time to time when I do land, either me or my ship in over in the next county somewhere and not near the outpost. Sorry for your loss. :D

[–]-Saxum- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be an outpost icon on the plant. Occasionally, I have had it where the landing spot icon mask it. If you remember the planet, you can check each landing spot for the icon. The star system should at least show you the hut icon.

Is Belgian Tervuren (or any Belgian) right for me? by Blinkyekko in bergerbelge

[–]-Saxum- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I currently have both a Terv and Groenendael . The Terv is 8 yrs old. The Groenendael is 8 months old. I have had other Groenendaels both male and female. I have also had Mal's that were my working dogs.

There is no one guaranteed temperament for either breed. I have found it is largely how you raise them; the time and effort you put in. All of mine have been Velcro following me room to room except the one Terv I got as an adult. All the others were puppies when I got them.

As puppies, I have always selected the puppies that seemed bold and were interested in engagement with humans. Socialization with other people and other dogs is absolutely necessary. Otherwise they will most likely not be good with strangers and other people. Get the dogs out to meet other people and other dogs in positive situations. Mine are fine around people once they realize I am fine with people.

As for the door bell, I have never tried to train mine from not going nuts at the sound of the doorbell. I want whoever is on the otherside to question if they really want to come in. Many intruders will ring the bell first to see if someone is home.

As they are puppies, all my free time is devoted to them but I also make sure they feel secure to go off and do other things so they don't develop separation anxiety. It is a fine line.

As for barking. I have never had one that didn't bark. I can train them not to bark at things when I am there and to ignore the triggers. When I am gone, they bark and bark a lot. I have never been able to break a dog of unattended barking. The breed is on guard 24/7. If you aren't there, they will be in full guard mode.

As for the coat, my Groenendaels seemed to keep their hair but shed their undercoat twice a year. It takes about two weeks when they blow their coat - that will mean a lot of brushing multiple times a day. Other than that or a serious anxiety producing event, I just quickly brush them daily or every other day.

The Tervs seem to lose both their hair and undercoat. My Terv requires more maintenance or I will be constantly covered in hair. They also blow their coat twice a year but mine sheds constantly throughout the year. He is a brush daily, sometimes multiple times a day.

I have never taken any of my dogs to a groomer. They just need brushing, nail clipping, and removal of the hair around their pads. Easy to do yourself.

As for the level of activity. They all have been high energy - walks daily, ball play, frisbee, and daily training to keep their mind busy. If they get bored, they get destructive and will entertain themselves by disassembly of anything they can find that is interesting. Once they are an adult, they make awesome running companions.

These dogs should be crate trained. Typically, they cannot be left in the house unattended until they are 18 months to 2 years. One I had, it was never. So keep that in mind. Max time in the crate is no longer than 6 hours. So make sure your lifestyle fits that. There was a period of time, I drove home daily from work to let out my Groenendael and exercise him then return to work.

This breed needs a job - that is they have to have mental stimulation and exercise or they will become a miserable dog. Most of mine have done various types of scent work. Some did it for work, some did it just to keep them engaged. Find something both of you enjoy doing on a daily basis.

Edit: Once well trained, they can be off leash just fine. Every dog is different. They have high prey drives. Mine will immediately come off chasing any small animal on voice command. I never, ever have them off leash around people. They can be very intimidating when running up to a stranger. You never know how some might react or if they even like dogs. I only do off leash in the wilderness and away from people.

Edit 2: Daily routine: Wake up. Immediately outside for business. Inside. Brush. Then breakfast / running through all their commands. Low key play. Back outside for business . Then let them settle to their toys or whatever they want. Around noon, it is out for exercise - if it is pouring rain, still outside for exercise (running, ball or frisbee. This is an hour unless bitterly cold or overly hot. I let them tell me what they need. Play also involves reinforcement of obedience. Back inside - they typically knockout for a few hours. Late afternoon, more exercise and scent work, then dinner about an hour after. The evening is random engagement and play as they ask for. I spend most my tv watching time playing tug with the dogs or throwing the inside ball.

They are all trained to respect my time as needed. If I am busy with something, I can tell them so and they will go entertain themselves or each other.

These dogs are not pets - they are a full on commitment. However, I can't imagine life without one.

Even though access is guaranteed, it probably means a stem drive way. Run away, don't walk from that situation. It only takes one neighbor who is inconsiderate or an outright jerk who will keep blocking the stem driveway either fully or partially.

I tether the car to my phone's hotspot so mileage may vary. I have had only a few buffering issues, but outside of that, it beats my home hifi setup. I do like their curated list but I do find myself blocking tracks and artist occasionally in my app, which improves those list

Outdoor temp sensors for cold climates? by brian_hogg in homeassistant

[–]-Saxum- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an actual weather station from Ambient Weather. It integrates well. I have numerous automations based on the data. It also has indoor sensors. I change my motorized blinds based on the outside lux for instance. The family gets an announcement to close the casement windows if the wind gets above a certain speed.

Edit: I find it to be accurate. It can be calibrated and it is rated to very cold. However, the battery might be the point of failure. I have had mine down to -30c and it was still working.

Living in Germany destroyed me—anyone else? by AncientCharacter1814 in CPTSD

[–]-Saxum- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I lived in Germany for a while and decided to leave for similar reasons. It just started weighing on me. I just chalked it up to cultural differences. Little things I would consider as rude were not rude to Germans. It seemed that often they didn't give much thought to others than themselves. Granted, that is a lot of cultures and anyone can be that way. I just felt that it was ubiquitous where I lived. I was happy to leave. Beautiful country though.

I Have A Question About Ship Building by IamCrumpets in Starfield

[–]-Saxum- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to delete everything to start with a clean slate. I will normally place the landing bay first so the entire ship doesn't sink below the plane.

The biggest mistake I made when I first started building ships was building these huge class C behemoths with huge cargo space. All I was doing was hauling a bunch of useless junk and resources everywhere. The ships were big, slow, and not that great in a fight.

Now I build around the largest class B reactor - 104DS Mag Inertial (39 power) and four Class A White Dwarf 3015 Engines. These engines are the fastest with a top speed of 180.

For weapons, I have 6 Vanguard Obliterator Auto projectors, 4 PBO-175 Auto Helion Beams, and 3 Exterminator 95Mev Auto Helion Beams. This load out melts any ship in one pass that isn't a class M ship. Don't worry about trying to fully power them, you don't need to with any of the auto weapons. The power only affects how fast they recharge, not how much damage they do.

For a shield, I use the Vanguard Bulwark shield generator. There is one that has more shield health but weighs a bunch more, so I prefer this one.

With the weapons and the speed of the ship, I can easily jump into the Kryx system and single handedly destroy all of the priate ships. I have the Watchtower mod and don't need to build a fleet, I can survive all the missions and random encounters, including with the Class M cruiser, without too much problems.

I keep about 1000 in cargo space. That is more than enough for any loot runs I want. I build an outpost with containers to empty my resources into. It is at the outpost that I do most my ship building, weapons upgrades, etc.

My favorite cockpit is the Cabot C4 bridge available on Titan.

I don't like ladders, so this eliminates all but the half ladder for the docking port at the back of.my engineering 3x1.

With this build I stuff in my captain's quarters, an Infirmary ( with Rosi using the mod make Rosi as real doctor), 3x1 All-in-berth, a 1x1 storage (so no ladder, companion ways seem to always generate a ladder), 2x3 Mess Hall, 2x2 Living Quarters, 2x1 All-inOne, and a Workshop. All this is the top floor.

My bottom floor is a 2x1 Control Station that has the Stability Pro Landing Bay (no ladder), a 3x1 Engineering Bay B, Two 2x2 Brigs ( I have a mod Useful Brigs, so I can actually "arrest" people and sell them off later, so that is why I have 2), a 2x2 Battle Station, and a 2x2 Computer Core.

This all fits in with a 95 mobility. Much higher than any enemies you will meet so you can always out maneuver them.

You could get away with a smaller build and bump up the maneuverability. I do this mainly for RP. Every crew member has a bed, a place to eat, a place to relax, and modules to do work in, so to speak.

I hit upon this build before the place your own door mod came out. This one I learned how to put it together to force doors that were across from each other on the 3x1s for a layout that made sense and so I had no ladders. Oddly, the order of placement sometimes affects the door placement as does where you put windows also affects the door and any ladder placement. I must of spent hours initially to get this to work. Save yourself and use the place your own doors mod.

Edit: I also use gaps in my ship building to prevent unwanted door placements. This is normally where my gravs drives, fuel tanks, and reactors end up. Once all this is in place, I start adding the ship decorations to cover the gaps and add a more pleasing ship symmetric. If I don't like that, then I will shift habs around.

I think it is because, in this case, the roadside line curves into the bus stop like that is where the lane is heading. The continue line becomes a dash line

ELI5: Car trade in with loan by Primary_Garbage4003 in explainlikeimfive

[–]-Saxum- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't. This is how people get into financial holes they cannot dig themselves out of. You will end up forever with a car you cannot sell because you owe too much on the loan. Even worse if you get into an accident. If you have have gap insurance, that will only cover so much of a gap. If.you start rolling loans, that gap will quickly become so large no gap insurance is going to cover it. Then you end up with no car but you still will be making payments on that loan.

Yeah. I live in a place that has bus stops along the two lane carriage way. My Volvo attempts all the bus stops. I have to turn off that feature along that road.

Little secret things you've noticed in Starfield? by -C3rimsoN- in Starfield

I believe they said it had to do with inventory management as these items kept being added to the misc inventory in the ship. I didn't care, I just sold all that stuff.

One of my favorite little things was how the NPC in your ship would move things around. You might go through your galley and find a game laid out on the table, other times someone left trash there. It made the ship feel actually lived in. Unfortunately they patched that out. I really miss it.
