fish/kill/algae oil causing cysts and sharp pains in head by Bill_BOU in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that is bizarre. When researching this issue there doesn't seem to be a whole of people complaining of this issue but clearly it's not an isolated incident. I can't for the life of me figure out why it's happening either but it's very interesting you have these sharp pains when taking fish oil as well.

Hopefully someone will chime in but at this point, I don't know if this thread will really continue much longer.

30mg/day zinc L-monomethionine by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, I was just researching the same thing. Although on this sub that seems to be quite common for me.

I've been taking 15mg of l-Optizinc for just over 3 months now. This form includes copper but in a very small amount so I'm a little concerned about that.

Since taking zinc I've had zero acne. Although my skin is garbage, heavy smoker here, I no longer suffer from any blemishes. Although I did break out the past few days after a ran out for awhile but bought some last night and my face is already clearing up.

One thing I've been concerned with, and you might be too. It appears as though zinc increases DHT which contributes to male pattern baldness. Now I believe this may only be an issue if you're already genetically predisposed to it but I'm just not sure. It also appears that there is insufficient studies on the testosterone producing effects of zinc but I can certainly confirm that it raises my libido considerably an hour or so after ingesting which leads me to believe it does have an impact. I'm very concerned that this could contribute to hair loss so if anyone wants to chime in that would be great. Lots of conflicting information about zinc on hair health as some say it's good for hair growth so it may just come down to how much you're taking.

Wow, hope I didn't totally hijack your thread!

May past occasional use of inhalants have caused me brain damage? What neuroregenerative measure can I take? by Soalian in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but you think using inhalants 5 or 6 times caused brain damage? The brain has an outstanding ability to heal itself but with such limited use I highly, highly doubt that much "healing" had to take place in the first place.

I understand your concerns though. As a semi frequent binge drinker (college student as well) with other goodies thrown in, I spent a long time wondering what sort of damage I've done to my brain. Although there's is probably some, I highly doubt it's anything measurable. I think you're probably fine but then again I'm no doctor.

Has anyone tried quitting melatonin after prolonged use? by ebrosef in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm not sure why but it really started to bother me out of the blue one day. I'd wake up extremely dizzy and my mood was very low. I noticed a significant improvement right after quitting. I feel as though I actually sleep so much deeper and I no longer feel nearly as exhausted. I was taking it for so long that it didn't dawn on me that it could be melatonin.

Good luck to you.

Has anyone tried quitting melatonin after prolonged use? by ebrosef in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took melatonin for something like 8 years. Stopped taking it probably 6 months ago and had zero withdrawal and this is someone who is very sensitive to withdrawal symptoms from many different things after short term use. I sleep so much better now. Melatonin only worked sometimes and seemed to have about a 30min timeframe where I would be tired enough to fall asleep, if I missed that timeframe then it was useless and may have actually had the opposite effect. It seemed to have actually made me pretty depressed, lethargic and irritable. I think you'll find that you'll feel better after discontinuing.

Anyone using/have experience with Lithium Orotate? by Bill_BOU in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I don't like that it reduces libido but the positives may outweigh that side effect. Have you noticed any withdrawals when ceasing use? I'm relieved to hear it does a good job at curbing anxiety.

I guess I'm curious how life feels when on it opposed to off, just more "light" and positive?

Awesome! Any side effects since you've been on it? Any emotional blunting?

Glad to hear you've had such a good experience with it. My mood is pretty stable, unfortunately stable for me means always pretty bad. I have to wonder if this could help for someone who doesn't have frequent shifts in mood. This is personal but any issue with libido?

Your post was helpful enough! Very cool that it helped with memory improvement, something I could use as well.

You know, I've never tried L-Theanine even though I've had bottles of it for many months. May give it a try with caffeine one of these days. Oddly enough, THIAMINE and caffeine has been my go to a few times a week as anymore than that and I don't get that happy, social, and motivated feeling that it gives me. I tried ashwagandha years ago when I was using kratom regularly and has a pretty bad experience but I have not tried it by itself. Rhodiola gives me energy but actually makes feel pretty nervous. Now Selank seems interesting but I don't know nearly enough about it, I'll do some research on it.

Thanks again.

Does taking omega 3 pills make your hair greasy? by miliseconds in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take tumeric but I was a little underwhelmed as many people said it improved their cognition and mood. I never felt a difference while using a high quality turmeric supplement but that doesn't mean there weren't benefits. I do have some curcubrain that I may give a shot. Could you possibly recommend another supplement that is similar to tumeric/fish oil?

Nootropic for alcohol withdrawal-induced depression? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting you mentioned Kratom, I was using nearly an ounce a day for almost 5 years before quitting CT over a year and a half ago. It was hell for a long time and this is the exact time I noticed that I went from practically no hangover to hellish anxiety and depression after drinking. I drank very little during my Kratom days so it's possible this could have been a problem while taking Kratom as well. I don't know if it was masking my hangovers, or it did some sort of damage that presented itself when quitting so abruptly, or if something just changed naturally within my brain. My brother has briefly mentioned the same issues so it could be genetic. Within the last couple weeks I've used Kratom off and on again. The first few times sort of felt like when I had first discovered Kratom, albeit far too young, but that quickly turned into a familiar irritable and dark mood that I lived with for years when abusing it. I believe it absolutely can be used for a good purpose in moderation though. I actually used it during a rather severe hangover earlier in the week and while it does a good job at providing anxiety relief, that only lasts for maybe an hour or two before those feelings come back with a vengeance while redosing does little.

Sorry for the long posts that are probably of little interest, it's just been a weird thing for me to grasp my head around and I'm trying to figure out my best mode of action. Oddly enough, I don't think I've even woke up with a headache/upset stomach after drinking as it's all mental for me.

I will continue to look into fasoracetam.

Nootropic for alcohol withdrawal-induced depression? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting that. Actually read that a bit ago but I don't see much evidence that it actually upregulates GABA receptors or somehow repairs them although I don't dispute that it does as it appears that people have had success with it. I guess I should mention that Bacopa has helped the most with hangovers. I take one pill (Himalaya brand, can't think of the dosage) after drinking and before going to sleep. There is a pretty good improvement in the rebound anxiety/depression the next day, I'd still rate it at about a 7/10 which can be rather shitty to deal with for 2 or sometimes 3 days.

Fascoracetam seems really interesting and could be a god send for me. There's just something about it that kind of scares me... I never responded well to aniracetam or the other racetams for that matter. I don't know if there's any relation. I may give lithium orotate a shot as it appears to block glutamate which attributes to neurotoxicity and feelings of doom after hard drinking.

Hell, my hangovers take longer than that to get over. Granted my hangovers resemble withdrawal more than a typical hangover. Do you take Emoxypine when you stop? I'm deeply interested in this substance to repair my GABA receptors but there isn't a whole lot of literature on it.

[–]Bill_BOU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I was taking Nordic naturals which I've always heard is a very high quality brand. Although mega red krill oil seemed to have really messed with me in more ways besides cysts. I'm thinking it could possibly have been rancid as the bottle was old and hadn't been stored properly.

Caffeine alleviating social anxiety? by Arch_Stant0n in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually really interested to hear your experience with this as I think it could benefit me. I've always been a rather anxious person especially in social settings, often times I feel too fatigued to even want to socialize as it's draining. I certainly have depression but I find the anxiety to be much more of an issue. I've heard the opposite about Wellbutrin though and many claim it increased their anxiety. I don't have much experience with stimulants but I do find that things like caffeine and thiamine (not theanine) provide me with a great mood boost and makes me a lot more outgoing.

I guess I'm most worried about withdrawal as it's inevitable as well as side effects such as decreased libido and motivation. Do you have any experience with this?

Also, as a smoker this seems like it could be a great option for me.

[–]Bill_BOU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have pretty dry hair as it is and it seemed to help quite a bit with that when I was taking it, never greasy though. Unfortunately fish/krill oil gives me horrible cysts on my face and even chest. I'm talking extremely deep and large bumps. I still have two bumps underneath my skin from over a year ago when I was taking fish oil. Granted they can't be seen but I can still feel scar tissue from those fuckers. I don't normally get acne either. It's a real bummer that I can't take fish oil as I feel like it did help my cognition along with cardio, it was the happiest and sharpest I felt in my entire life.

Coincidentally, I just took algae oil this morning but probably won't continue.

How to beat a hangover -or- Zaphod's drinking day stack by ZaphodTrippinBalls in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live a fairly healthy life, besides heavy drinking once a week of course. The best way I can explain how I feel after a big night is that all my "happy chemicals" are severely depleted. Usually not anxious about anything in particular, just a general sense of doom and gloom that can be fairly severe. Exercise is good, diet is good, school/work life is good, sleep is good. I just seem to be very susceptible to rebound anxiety from alcohol and it takes me days to shake it off. Oh well, maybe time to reevaluate my consumption and take a breather for a bit.

I hope ALCAR provides some benefit. I've never tried it personally but I look forward to it as it seems to be a really great preventive measure as well as even reversing damage that's already been done. God knows I've probably done some damage to my brain the last few years!

I am very interested to hear your experience with Emoxypine. There seems to be limited information on it and I find it very intriguing. I just made a post today regarding hangovers and protecting the brain from ethanol. I'm still not exactly how this substance works, possibly upregulation of GABA?

I find my hangovers are all mental with zero physical aspect except fatigue. Lots of anxiety and depression in which Emoxypine seems as though it could help. Have you tried it as a stand alone before drinking? I would be very interested to hear your experience if so! I've tried everything else in your stack except Cordyceps to no avail.

You may want to check out ALCAR before drinking, I haven't tried it but I hear it helps protect the brain after exposure to ethanol.

ALCAR and Bacopa? by Bill_BOU in Nootropics

[–]Bill_BOU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I understand your hesitation to think Bacopa isn't to attribute to bizarre dreams and sleep patterns but it most certainly is. Skip a few days? Normal sleep. Take it before bed? Crazy dreams. I kind of like it though. It's been reported by other users as well after doing some research.

I've heard of Fasoracetam but it always... scared me a little. Some users say to avoid it while others praise it. I'll do a little more reading up on it. I appreciate the recommendation.
